if they have a totem, then yes, they can do it (but the movie suggested that Mal was the first one to suggest the usage of totem), and you already know what happened to her in limbo (she locked her own totem inside a safe, and thus chose to forget/ignore the fact that she's dreaming)

this movie is nice to many viewer probably because they can relate to the movie and have their questions about dream "answered"
