is my mcard fried eh?

how to hard reset when no virtual key?
*
Remove battery and memory card and then start phone after reinserting battery. Where did you save your theme? Card or phone. Last time this happened to me lucky I saved it on card, then when I restart, I immediately when to uninstall the theme. Try and see if it works.

Yeah, I also support the new v20 firmware, just installed and it seems the response is slightly better and the auto rotation seems smoother. Also photos load up in the gallery very much faster. However, I seem to have less RAM available then with the previous firmware after a reboot, now I'm seeing 45MB++ free when I could get 50MB or more free previously.

mikeee. u update through 3G or WiFi?
ur tube can connect WiFi?
*
Yes the tube is Wifi enabled, why don't you connect the phone via USB to your PC and perform the update through PC? Saves phone power as you don't need an active wifi connection to be on.

i plug in my charger n use my home WiFi to update... its easier for me since i read so many have difficulties updating by PC...
*
Didn't know about problems updating via PC, it works fine for me. Thing is don't be put off by all the horror stories, as long as you have backed up your phone, then you're quite safe should something go wrong. So far I have used 2 symbian phones, the N70 ages ago and the Tube, and both updated via PC just fine.

GUYZ PLEASE USE CABLE TO UPDATE!!!!

ANYTHING MIGHT GO WRONG IF YOU ARE USING WIRELESS!!!!
*
Speaking from experience? Maybe you can tell us about the potential cons of using wireless to update, I can think of only 2:

1. Wireless suddenly disconnects
2. Transfer rates are slower

Anything else? hmm.gif

Hmmm....that's about the same time it took via PC/cable connection, but then again I did the update this morning in office and our wifi is super mah fan to connect, security and all that so I used PC.

this 1 because using NSU it is full firmware download, and using FOTA it is incremental download smile.gif
*
I didn't know that, incremental means they only add and change specific parts of the original firmware, right?

5800 can't be charge using USB connection.
*
Minor correction, Nokia 5800 cannot be charged via USB cable but you can purchase a USB charger that can charge the phone, one end is the power connector, the other a USB connector. Not true USB charging though.

Please enlighten me, this is the first time I heard about it. So, the usb connector will be connected to pc and the power connector to 5800? So far I only heard about, normal changer, USB(pc)-->USB(phone) and power-->USB(phone). As far I know, only the normal charger can be use. But USB(PC)-->power(phone) is something new for me. Should find this charger as it will be more convenience than a normal chager.

Yes, they do sell that cable, Nokia has original cable but I think it's quite pricey, can get "compatible" one in LY.

You can check the cable out here: http://www.nokia.com.my/A41047270

This problem was for firmware v10, it was fixed in v11 if I remember correctly. Check your firmware and update it to the latest v20 firmware.

do anyone know how to use GPS google map offline in 5800 and is there any GPS software that is FOC and map king use on 5800?
*
I don't think you can use Google maps offline. You can however plot your route first when you have a connection and get the directions. As for GPS software - all are non FOC, you have to buy them. Google a little for more information. FYI Garmin XT GPS software can be used together with Virtual Key. Instructions can be found on the 1st page of this thread or if not on the 1st page of the earlier versions of this thread.

Hmmm...I have a weird problem, when I go to my contacts I get all my contacts shown in duplicate, I tried deleting one of the "duplicate" but lo and behold both contacts were deleted! So the phone is displaying duplicates of a single contact. Dunno if I can restore just the contacts from backup. This happened after v20 update.

Did a restore, now everything seems fine. smile.gif

how to update firmware by phone ? keep says server not responding
*
That's not a phone problem, either the network you are connected to is congested or the Nokia update server is busy dealing with too many requets, just retry.

better use usb cable lah... phone network not consistent and not very stable, especially maxis 3g now.

Agreed 100%. Better use USB connected to a PC that has broadband access. More reliable connection. You don't want the line to die in the middle of an update.

Added on February 11, 2009, 4:48 pmI'm kinda suspecting that v20 does not really improve on performance of the Tube much but I suspect Nokia has tweaked it so it "seems" everything is a lot smoother i.e. switching between apps etc., so that users "feel" it's faster. Although the gallery now loads noticeably faster, the rest like when replying to a message, the lag between hitting the reply key and when the message editor comes up is still there. Then again it might be my own perception.

Hello everyone . I just install garmin but after i install i press the icon it seem nothing pop out ?
*
Have you installed the Virtual Key application? Garmin XT is not currently optimised for S60v5, so certain soft keys like the ones on the bottom right/left cannot be used by pressing the screen, instead you have to map these soft keys to the physical keys on the 5800, hence the need for Virtual key.

Added on February 11, 2009, 4:57 pmOn another note, I installed the Japanese language for the new Dictionary that comes with v20 but when I search for a word in English, the resulting target meaning in Japanese cannot be displayed. I know it's a language pack thing, question is how do I enable the Japanese fonts to display. My Japanese MP3s show the Kanji, curious.

QUOTE(lordskarn @ Feb 13 2009, 08:52 AM)
Hi fellow Tubians..

I dont know if you guys remember, but way back in 29-Jan in V6 or 7 I posted regarding the problems with my Tube.. it wont charge and wont turn on..

Sunway NCC blamed it on the charger.. because when they put their charger in my phone it worked.. unfortunately, I went back home and things were fine for just a day then the phone cant be started again.. tried the charger in my friend's E71 and it worked fine.. so its not the charger after all..

Bcoz I'm very busy, only got time to go back to Sunway NCC the following week, and somehow they tried their charger and it worked again.. I argued with them that it only works now but it'll stop working after a while.. but the customer service guy said they need to take the phone / charger to check.. and if they take the charger, they need about 2 weeks to send it for replacement, and there's no spare charger they can lend me.. (What BS is that.. how am I going to charge the phone then.. should I put the phone on a bookshelf for show for 2 weeks or what? If u guys notice the Ampere for 5800 Tube is higher than other Nokia charger... but that NCC guy doesnt even know about that.. I told him I got no spare charger and he simply doesnt care.. he said to go to Plaza Berjaya for faster exchange, but not same day exchange also... )

So after taking all that BS, I went back and my phone lasted for another couple of days intermittently being on or off.. the final thing that pisses me off was on 11-Feb, I turn it off when it had 3 bars of battery left to change the SIM Card, and then it wont turn on at all.. (which actually is good.. better permanent problem then intermittent problem since its easier to diagnose and fix, otherwise talking to NCC is like talking to TMNut Screamyx, they always think they know better but they know nothing)

So rather than going back to Sunway NCC with the lousy service, I went to AMCORP Mall 10th floor because the warranty card on my Avaxx set has that as the primary authorized service center.. in 1 hour I was at the center, I saw 5 units of 5800 being sent in for various problems.. scary.. when I ask the staff there is there lots of problem with this model.. they just smile and said just common problems like screen protector cover the front proximity sensor etc.. (but the ones that were sent in during that hour all had different problems.. so maybe another BS from NCC)

The front desk listened to my prob for about 1 minute then said its probably a defective motherboard and it would take 24 hours to change.. I argued that its a brand new set, a brand new model just launched a month ago, and already gave me weeks of downtime.. they should give a 1 to 1 change.. and the girl said only Nokia Careline can authorize that.. so called the Careline and of course they said something different.. they said Service Center tech has to check and verify if needs replacement 1 to 1 or not.. now they're pushing the ball to each other.. however the careline gave me a Service Request number that they are escalating and they inform me to give the SR number to NCC..

So in the end we escalate this to the NCC's manager.. (quite a nice person actually, at least she admits if she dont know and checks with her team) she said she'll check the SR with Nokia Careline if can change, but for now they'll change the motherboard and try first, if everything works fine then no need to change.. She promised she'll try and get it fixed on the same day, and true to her word it was fixed in about an hours time.

I guess they changed the board because my phone's v20 went back to v11 and now it cant update anymore sad.gif
The product code also changed from 0570197 to 0570196..

Had an argument over NCC and Nokia Careline about the version also.. looks like NCC is totally unaware of v20 at all.. I was so angry that they dont even know their own product that I went and got a printout from both Nokia Asia and Nokia Europe about the v20 firmware availability for 0552438  and gave to the manager who looked surprised and promise to follow up with Nokia about what happened to v20 for the product codes sold in Malaysia (which of course I doubt she'll get back to me)..

CODE
Latest available software for  Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, product code 0552438
Version:  20.0.012

Compare numbers
If this version is greater than your current software version, update now to get the latest features, applications and improvements. Go to Nokia Software Updater download

The Careline also doesnt know whats the latest official version for 5800 ExpressMusic, and they wanted to check the update website from my product code.. but I dont want to waste my time with that.. I can check myself on the website also that the v20 is missing now for both 0570196 and 0570197 but still there for 0552438 etc.. Confused over their own products? Great!

At least we know the firmware is still out there for other regions and it was not pulled back because it's defective etc.. so for those who have updated, I suppose you dont have to worry!  rclxms.gif

Well I'm not here to bash the Tube or something, I love my Tube and when it was working, it has served me well.. watched movies all the time on the Tube, my GPS took me even up to Manjung, Perak from Puchong when I was holidaying in Pangkor.. I put hours of songs in there, the WiFi has seen many Starbucks and McDonalds etc etc.. its been a good companion.. but I do believe that the NCC and Nokia Careline should improve their service because even though its a cheap lineup of their product, they still need to maintain their profesionalism and branding.. not all of us have the time and patience to fight through all their frontline BS and careline BS and get to the manager who can actually get something done quickly.. and in truth, we shouldnt even need to.. we pay for original phones that come with original warranty for "Peace of Mind" as per the advertisement in Nokia website.. at the first sign of the slightest problem they should look properly and professionally into it within a reasonable time frame.. I dont mind 1-2 days of waiting to get fixed, but 1-2 weeks to change a charger, with no replacement provided, is bad service!

If you feel like there's something weird with your Tube, send it for warranty before its too late.. if they insist its okay or no problem or whatever BS but u feel the problem is still there, ask for a reference number or service request number etc and if the problem re-occurs, inform the careline the exact same problem happened again as fixed in that SR and we demand a replacement (or at least a motherboard replacement) rather than just minor fixes.. because its damn new and if its defective without the user doing anything bad like throwing the Tube out the window etc, its probably a manufacturer's defect.. If my  phone motherboard can mysteriously go bad.. so can anybody's..

P/S : If got NCC or Nokia Careline or Nokia managers etc lurking here, feel free to get back to us all regarding the firmware..

Cheers.
