Introduction

Production I.G announces Eden of the East, the new animated TV series by world-acclaimed director Kenji Kamiyama. The series is slated in Japan for April 2009 within the popular Fuji Television's late-night time slot noitaminA, a well established guarantee of high rates for animation.
Kenji Kamiyama, director of the million-selling Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series and of the award-winning high-fantasy Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit, is famous for his insightful and intense rendering of human drama and the uncompromising visual quality of his works. This time, he will challenge with a story of youth set in a very near-future Japan, based on an original script written by himself.
Honey and Clover celebrated manga artist, Chika Umino is contributing her unique touch for the original character design. "I can feel strong affinity with Umino's approach to the delineation of the characters and her story construction methodology," commented Kamiyama on his collaboration with Umino.
Eden of the East is the first original series to be broadcast within noitaminA, the previous shows being transpositions of existing manga or novels. The first series aired in the block was notably Chika Umino's Honey and Clover in 2005. Production I.G successfully debuted in the noitaminA block in April 2008 with the series Library War, directed by Takayuki Hamana.
