Under what reasons would my iPod be entitled to exchange one-to-one?

My iPod Touch (1st gen)'s warranty is almost expired so I wanna change it before problems arise.

I hope someone's able to help me here, and pictures will be supplied if needed.

Thanks in advance.

I think the TS's ipod is not spoilt but he just wants to find a reason to send it for warranty so he can get a new unit before the warranty expires so that he don't have to worry abt it spoiling (or at least it will last longer) after the warranty period

If it's working totally fine, there is no reason to send for warranty and get one to one exchange.
Just buy the Apple Care Protection if you want extra warranty period.

I'm worrying - because there is a bit of QC problem - light can be seen poking through the iPod's middle. (The part where metal and plastic connects)

I'm just a student - I don't have as much money as some rich forumers here who can dump a wad of cash on a gadget, forget about it months later...

What if the warranty expires and the iPod malfunctions? My friend's car just got this - 2 days after warranty expired, his engine warning indicator lighted up and black smoke started coming out of his exhaust. Sent back to C&C Bintang, repaired something in the fuel chamber, cost him about RM500..

If there's a QC problem then head to apple and ask for their advice.
If everyone is thinking like you and everytime when the warranty period is going to end soon, they'll go to Apple for one to one exchange, they will face a serious loss.
And somehow IMO, another reason Apple refuse to bring in the Iphone 3G and the official price for Apple products are higher than elsewhere is because of this type of mentality Malaysian have. They need the higher price to cover the cost for ppl who try to abuse their warranty.

The 1st thing is, a car and an ipod is a totally different thing.
Regarding your friend's case, I would say he is unlucky. Don't tell every owner of the same car faces the same problem like your friend here. If every owner of the same car have the same problem, then it's the manufacturer fault.
But did u heard any ipod touch owner mentioning about being faulty after warranty expired for 1 week? No right?
But if u're still worried about the QC problem, go ahead and ask them for their advice.

Just buy Applecare to extend the warranty.
Also you must activate it before the expire date of the warranty.
1 to 1 exchange only apply to certain terms and conditions.

It is simple. Normally for iPod, they will just replace a new one for the end user. I did send a lot of spoilt iPod which is still under warranty to Apple and all my customer get a brand new unit. Not too bad. Anyway, just buy Apple Care if you are planning to keep your iPod for a long time.

What if just a small part of the iPod is spoilt that doesnt require any replacement?

Well, again from my experiences, Apple care nothing bout it. If they are lazy to deal with it, they will just throw a new unit to the end user. The old one, they will wait for the parts to be available for the repair. Then they will resell it under "REFURBISH UNIT"

Ok then, will do so, thanks for the advice.

it's a bloody lame excuse... you have the bloody money to buy a blood-sucking ipod, sure hell got blood-load money to get a blood red ACPP... so what if your ipod breaks down after warranty expires, you sure hell need to fork out your blood-less money to exchange one-to-one, much less get a new one... doh.gif

i just don't get why the heck you complaint about QC issue when there's a cheaper alternative, buy a bloody ACPP for your crappy peace of mind for less than 200 bucks... much better than forking out your parents money (assuming that's how you got your ipod in the first place) for a one-to-one exchange and end up losing more....
*
ACPP costs 20% of an iPod touch's price. And how much is a one-to-one exchange? Mind to mention?

What I'm trying to do is to use the warranty to my advantage - because I'm afraid the small problems on my iPod might spring out to be big ones later. What's so wrong about that?

Seriously, I don't understand why you need to flame me so badly. I ask a question, people help by answering. What's wrong with that?

Hmph...ACPP is the way to go. That way you wouldn't have to worry bout it the next two years? happy.gif

By then, probably a new model is out.

his is 1st gen... memang already got new model tongue.gif

to TS, i dun really get wut u mean by light poking out so if u feel its serious enuf, yeah try a service centre n see wut u can get. if u cant get a replacement, nevermind...it doesnt mean that ur touch will break 1 week aftr that. the touch is only an electronic device...sometimes they just fail, n we can be unlucky.

hm anyway if u cant get a replacement, get ACPP and when ure almost at the end of the extended warranty period, u can try to get a replacement again tongue.gif

err,in your case its been quite sometime since the problem has been there and will also be considered as cosmetic damage which is not covered. Using warranty to the advantage is if the thing has a terminal problem, you dont have foresight and not a technician a minor problem like this might not spring big problems later. Get the applecare if you are worried about the ipod touch, nothing man made is perfect especially electronic items. Go find cheaper acpp from ebay.
