I'm looking at those at the moment.

Mgsrulz, my parents don't really fancy buying stuff from unknown people, so buying in garage sales isn't really an option for me. I'll look at digital mall, lowyat and all till i find a good iPod Touch deal. Jailbreaking, as you said, shouldn't be that hard (Hopefully lol), and yea, the iPhone SDK is pretty cool. Really looking forward to developing on it, as it seems really cool. It would be a whole new experience for me as i've only developed games/ applications for the psp before, so yea smile.gif

Thanks for all the replies guys.
Thanks mgsrulz smile.gif

btw, apps on iPod Touch 2nd gen is faster than iPhone 1st Gen&3G and iPod Touch 1st gen. the processor got an increase of speed from its predecessor.

so for apps development (more on utilities and gaming, not the location-aware ones) iPod Touch 2G is recommended as for now.

alright.
but i think the cheapest would be through forummers here.
i suppose you can use the prices here as a gauge of sorts.

for example:
the price around here is about 900 bucks.
if you go to shops and see anything above 950 then shakehead.gif (just go to apple terus la...lol)

btw, your parents are like my mother laugh.gif
always hounding me "stolen goods or what?? got warranty or not?? new or used?? can work or not??can trust the guy or not??"

walao.. sweat.gif laugh.gif

yeah,it's not hard.
if you dont wish to do it manually, can just get one of the GUI based procedures.

i did screw up twice.
vista was incompatible with libusb and c++ redistributer (or something like that) and when i installed them, my computer got all sorts of problems.
the usb didnt work, my sound drivers went missing, etc rclxub.gif

i thought i was screwed doh.gif

but after uninstalling those drivers, everything went back to normal (had to enable compatibility mode to use them dry.gif )

also during the jailbreaking(after that nervous encounter^) i made a mistake. i cant remember now what it was i did,but i just re read the instructions and the ipod rebooted as it was supposed to happy.gif

Ah, yea, my parents are scared of being scammed tongue.gif

Hmm, about JailBreaking it. Is there any chance of bricking the system? If there is, can it be unbricked?

@LaskarCinta, the iPod Touch 2nd Gen costs the same as the first gen eh?

from what i've heard it is hard to brick, unless you intentionally do so tongue.gif
and if you do brick it,just click "restore" in iTunes.

cant say for sure though, cos havent bricked it yet tongue.gif

Hmm ok, that's good news. Also, i've got some doubts about the apple menu "pages".

How many pages can one have on his iPod Touch/ iPhone?

Also, would it possible to set an icon as "Games", and place all my games in that directory? That would make the main menu look much neater. smile.gif

Go to this link, and follow if you're new on developing for the iPhone, it is advisable to read up on the platform and what it can do:-

http://developer.apple.com/iphone/program/

Scroll down to the "Free iPhone SDK" and click "Download Now". For those who already have an Apple ID, you can plug in your Apple ID and password, and you'll be taken to the respective page. For those who have not an Apple ID, you need to register one first. Follow the steps.

For those with an Apple ID, a link will be sent to the email you registered your Apple ID with to access the ADC site, so that you can download the SDK. That link also verifies your status as an ADC member, and once you get to this screen:-

user posted image

, you know you're in.

I've procrastinated too much myself, wanting at one time, for my own use, to do two things - To compile all the relevant aerodrome data into one single database-like app that I can access on the iPhone/iPod Touch, and to be able to calculate the civil/nautical/aeronautical estimation of sunrise/sunset, so that I don't have to bust open my Mac and load up the Excel script to calculate when those sunrise/sunset is, mainly due to the fasting month and the need to address the passengers about when the time to break fast and/or when fasting period starts. Like I said before, I told myself I can delay this till later, to the point where, TWO apps have already been developed which does this exact same thing and more.

Both ForeFlight and Velaclock feature these things that I need, plus more too, so the procrastination continues. tongue.gif Foreflight has the aerodrome database, PLUS access to TAF/METAR aviation weather and NOTAM(Notice To Airmen) for all these aerodromes, while Velaclock calculates sunrise/sunset as per lat/long. Altitude deviation can easily gather from the Jeppesen tables.

So, the lesson I learned here is stop being lazy and get off my lazy butt, otherwise someone else is going to develop and take advantage of the demand for these apps first. tongue.gif Good luck on your quest, and please elevate yourself above developing silly apps like iFarts and similar ilks.

That is good to hear. The AppStore is a gold mine no doubt, you can easily reap the rewards, so to speak, even with childish apps like iFarts and all. But degrading the status of the AppStore to toilet humor jokes and pull-my-finger pranks, only damages the image of the AppStore in the long run. If you're in it for the money, then of course these criterias takes the back bench compared to the "dough" you're gonna make, but it is imperative that we do this for the long run....or at least, in your case, for your own personal satisfaction. I shake my head every time another silly little app goes into the AppStore that uses toilet humor, lewd jokes....or relying on the level of exposed flesh(if you know what I mean) to sell the app.

Which is the reason why I cant wait for the Premium Store to pop up. That should segregate the "men from the boys", so to speak. Not that I'm against cheap apps, but c'mon, out of the 15,000+ apps on AppStore, you can easily count with the fingers on your hands and toes on your feet, the most useful ones, among the sea of worthless apps around.

Yea, iFart does nothing, but make you laugh for a bit (I saw it on YouTube as i was looking at the iPod's features and all).

Added on February 8, 2009, 4:12 amCan someone please post the link to a good guide on Jail Breaking an iPod Touch? I'm unsure what firmware it will be equipped with when i get it (?), so just assume that it's the latest firmware out there.

I've looked around, and i found some nice looking guides, but i don't know if they're the best out there.

Also, i'm on a Mac.

Added on February 8, 2009, 12:58 pmI've got another doubt...

In order to transfer music from my Mac to my iPhone, can i just like, "Drag & Drop" my files to my iPhone? Or do i need to sync and all?

If i need to sync files, would i be able to select / deselect files that i want to sync, or will it just sync the entire library?

nak menyibuk gak. if Im not mistaken, my iPod doesnt brick but rather 'kinda' brick. just go into DFU mode, and restore. But I always save a backup firmware. click shift+restore(in windows, in mac I dont know) and choose the backup firmware.
