QUOTE
Dan Brown (born June 22, 1964) is an American author of thriller fiction, best known for the 2003 bestselling novel, The Da Vinci Code and the 2000 bestselling novel, Angels & Demons.

Brown is interested in cryptography, keys, and codes, which are a recurring theme in his stories. Currently his novels have been translated into more than 40 languages.

Although Brown's books are criticized as being anti-Christian, Brown states on his website that he is a Christian[2] and says of his book The Da Vinci Code that it is simply "an entertaining story that promotes spiritual discussion and debate" and suggests that the book may be used "as a positive catalyst for introspection and exploration of our faith".
Novels:

1. Digital Fortress, 1998
2. Angels & Demons, 2000
3. # Deception Point, 2001
4. The Da Vinci Code, 2003
5.# The Solomon Key, release date not yet announced.

I've read all four books as well, and my thoughts echo those of Stephen King, Stephen Fry, Geoffrey Pullum, Roger Ebert, and the venerable New York Times.

What Dan Brown's writing has been described as amongst literary circles isn't very flattering.

I have all of it as well.. but when you start with angels and demons and Da vinci code, the rest seem so predictable.

his style is very much like Micheal Crichton which is another of my favorite.

I do enjoy the historical background and the intrigues.

The trailer for angels and demons looks good, but as the da vinci movie, I think only by reading the book first you can appreciate the movie.

Lots of missing details and link and the anticipation is just isn't the same with the book.

i personally like Digital Fortress better. Among all the 4 books, I only finished reading 3.

Digital Fortress is a bit tense and both parties are doing their best to sovle a problem at different places.

The Da Vinci Code has a nice consistant storyline with predictable storyline. A nice to read...

Deception Point is too much politics and cons mixed up together... hence the title... But near the end of the novel, a bit too messed up and I kinda got mind fked... =___=...

I'm gonna read Angels and Demons before the movie releases. Just like back then with Da Vinci Code... I finished DVC just for the movie which turned out to be a absolute change here change there...

Dan... when is Solomon Key out????

I hated the fact that it was Tom Hanks who played Langdon. When reading, I was imagining some professor who looked like Robert Redford or something!

I've read Angels & Demons, DaVinci Code and Digital Fotress in that order. I was lucky to be introduced to DB's work by a friend who had read them, so I read Angels & Demons first. This was before DVC was made into a movie. I already have Deception Point but just haven't gotten round to reading it yet.

Spoiler alert
What I like about brown is the way he twist the plot at the end whcih as always the good guy at the beginning becomes the ultimate bad guy at the end. Da vinci code, angels & demon, deception point & digital fortress follows the same twist plot but after the same trend for 4 book I wonder whether he will repeat the style at his fifth book "The Solomon Keys".

His book is also like the 24 series which so many things can happen in 1 day. Sadly many people just focus on the idea rather than the narration skills , this was brought up by the hype of Da vinci code sad.gif . I don't like the movie though but i like the 2 main actors

Yeah about John Grisham novel above.
The book plot is very inconsistent but predictable. There will be no major twist since they will reveal the plot very early in the chapters but the interesting details will be spread until the end.
The first few chapters is always the best since he will reveal what is happening (like a murderer wating for a trial for a rape case) and what has happened, why the conflict..... But sadly after that first few chapters things becomes very dull until the last few chapters when the chase is on.
the best book to start is Runaway jury or the broker.

You know, I absolutely love DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons. They're in my all time favourite list.

However Digital Fortress is so bad that it makes me wonder if it's really written by the same author. Halfway through the plot, I already found the key answer to the question, that really makes the rest just silly since they are supposedly top cryptographers.

One thing I especially liked about Angels & Demons is how certain words were designed to be identical when viewed upside down. Like the stylized title itself. Very cool. I wonder if they will use that in the movie?

Isn't that like part of the whole idea? I mean, from the book, the ambigrams are supposed to be the proof of Illuminati's existence (or something like that, you know, cos only the Illuminati has the ambigrams..)

After reading through this thread - so it means that Angels and Demons is better than Da Vinci Code? I enjoyed DVC alot due to the symbolics featured/mentioned in the book. If A&D is better than DVC, I'm gonna get it next week. XD

I would say the only reasons to read Dan Brown's books are so you can justifiably criticize them.

"Reading" this via Audible.com's audiobook, gifted from iTunes by the always-awesome forum member Tishaban, cheers bro! wub.gif

Now in Chapter 80. The antagonist's history is revealed and explained, on how and why the became the way he is, and his belief on the "divine transformation". Takes a real devotion and unwavering belief to do what he did. Langdon, as always, in on the run, although "sanctuary" is close by. His companion, who's on the run with him, is of somewhat comparable age with him, hence the stronger "affection" towards her.

Up to this point, the "treasure" is STILL not revealed yet, so I have another 50 odd chapters to go to find out.

The good thing about the Audible audiobook is that, it is read in such a way that you can differentiate and recognize the different characters based on their characteristics and mannerism described in the book. The CIA Director Inoue Sato's cancer-stricken voice box is expressed exceptionally well here by the reader of the audiobook, to the point that I was afraid for his health because he had to coarsen his voice to the point of being almost rasping, and throaty cough-like manner. the "Architect of The Capitol" , "Trish", the "Arab taxicab driver",...even the different accents used by the antagonist to hide his actual character (war vet marine, high society doctor, and his actual Turkish personality) are all voiced out beautifully well.

50+ more chapters to go, and you dont even have to read anything, it gets read to you! thumbup.gif
