Hi there, I am planning to do my diploma in aircraft maintenance engineering(mechanical) in Kangan Institute in Melbourne, Australia.

Kangan Institute’s Aviation Industry
Training Centre (AITC) features state-
of-the-art training facilities to deliver
programs to individuals and industry.
In a typical week students will attend
classes five days per week, with 35 hours
of scheduled classes, with approximately
50 percent practical and 50 percent
theory classes. Classes will be scheduled
between 8am and 4.30pm, Monday to
Friday.
The minimum pass mark in all
examinations is 75 percent and a
minimum of 90 percent attendance is
required to sit final module examinations.
The course includes classroom-based
instruction and supervised practical
workshop experience in our aircraft
hangar. Assessment includes theory
exams, assignments, projects and
practical skills assessments.
Students will gain approximately 200
hours of simulated work experience
on the AITC Boeing 737 and will be
assisted with gaining industry experience.
The further industry placement is not
guaranteed. Graduates must have
completed a prescribed period of aircraft
maintenance experience before applying
for a category B1 licence. This experience
is to be relevant to the licence category
required and to the maintenance
experience of operating aircraft. This
experience should include maintenance
on aircraft structure, powerplant,
mechanical and electrical systems
and replacement of avionic LRUs (line
replaceable unit) requiring simple tests to
prove their serviceability.

this is the course description. They informed me that i have to do my apprenticeship offshore. Advice me on this, cause i want to become a LAME! but i dont know what is the best path. Is it better if i do it overseas? thanks !

There are 140 pages worth of postings here, surely there are more than enough answers to answer your question.

Then it is pretty obvious that it is not the path to take, this being;
- the learning institution you referred to is CASA based as opposed to EASA. If you do not understand this, find out. You must know this if you want to be in aviation.
- You do not want to enter an Apprenticeship programme with a Diploma. Thats not what an apprenticeship programme is. Such a programme is more apt to the Aussies, you're not.
- there are 'cheaper' alternatives locally that can take you in aShorter route to be an LAME

Surely you can draw such a conclusions after reading few initial postings at the start of this thread?

Lets get this clear once and for all, a diploma is NOT A PREREQUISITE to be a license engineer. You only need to sit and passed the Part 66 modules and successfully assessed and recommended to be granted the licensed after satisfying the minimum hands on experience on LIVE aircrafts. Thats PART 66 in a nutshell.

By the way, this not a profession to earn high salary. There are better and easier options.

no they have converted to easa based syllabus. thats why they told me to do my ojt offshore before i can apply for my license. i thought maintenance practices on 737's would give me an advantage. no?
and yea i know the requirements of the license. and im not going for the money. and i thought getting a diploma is fastest as 2yearsdip+2yearexperience = license and if i join TAME it would take 5 years instead.

Not good enough, unless they're Part 147 ATO.
OJT is not a substitute for a live aircraft experience. Take it from an assessor.
That 737 thing is just a sale pitch.

they are an ATO part 147. so how do i get live aircraft experience if its not OJT.
