I saw a few Santa Cruz acoustic guitars at Bentley, and they're only around RM100. Are they any good compare to some Kapok or other cheap non-branded guitars? I'm just a beginner and using my own money as a student, so I don't really want to spend a lot. Or any other cheap but decent guitars that you guys can recommend? But not Kapok la. =p

Anyway TS not to be dissuasive but for that kind of money you can't expect much, but if I am to get one I would get the one with nylon strings, coz usually the cheaper ones with steel strings... they could kill ur fingers Or try "renting" from friends, buying second hands...

agreed with quarantined, for RM100 u can expect it to be quite cheap in quality too. how bout give it some try? okay u say you r beginner.. right?
this 1 piece of tips, a decent guitar will attract you to play it more since with nice sound it produced thus making you want to play it more often.
the al-cheapo guitar is the vise-versa of the good guitar, the sound would mostly kill your mood while playing it. (for a beginner that is).. try collect a little bit more budget and start you search from any local instrument forum such as jamtank, ibands and lyn, seek for the second hand =3
oh yah, between kapok or that santa, i would choose santa ( to answer your question precisely ) ;3

If you've been visiting Bentley lately and if you wish to get a guitar there, I recommend you to get the Starsun (i think that was the name) acoustic guitars rather than Santa Cruz guitars. It'll cost a little bit more than Santa Cruz but the quality is way way better than Santa Cruz. If you feel that the action is slightly high for you, do not worry as you can always tweak the dual-action nut to get the neck straighten a bit so that you'll get a lower action and more comfortable playing it.

Oooh okay. That is kinda true Sadru. I actually have a guitar at home but it's a crappy one though. It doesn't sound as good as when I just bought it and I'm getting bored of it =p. I'm thinking of either buying a new guitar altogether or just replace the strings with better ones. But it won't make any difference will it? So it'll be better if I buy a new better one huh? Oh and "renting" from friends? That might be a good idea. *cough* poopy's *cough* a *cough cough* good *cough* friend *cough* and he's *cough* got a *cough* cool guitar too *more coughs* =p Lol. Just kidding. Anyway, thanks for all your replies!

Very nice, used it till now, but need good maintainance. Definitely better than kapok.

But not Kapok la. =p Do keep in mind that these are not the real Santa Cruz guitars Santa Cruz is a high-end, small-shop builder founded by Richard Hoover. They make very good (and very expensive!) guitars: Santa Cruz GuitarsI doubt the company who made those guitars at Bentley obtained permission to use the Santa Cruz name. Quite dishonest and misleading to new guitarists, if you ask me

People here know a lot about electric guitars, but the acoustic guitar market is very immature since there is a lack of both players and teachers. Here's one of my acquaintances on the AGF, Eric Skye demonstrating his 00 model. Eric is a Santa Cruz artist and wonderful solo jazz musician: Eric Skye - My RomanceThis post has been edited by mmmaak: Feb 12 2009, 11:51 PM
