personally for me, its not luck. in fact, there is no such thing as luck in this digital world.
lens are, is a component in the optical drive that faces the issue of wear and tear. The more you use it, the faster it will tear. as simple as that.
Sony's lens (or if you want it more precise, Sanyo's, since they outsource the thing to that company) has always been shoddy since PS1 days. Remember those standing up PSONE remedies, to make it read lens?
Recordable media, should not cause any problems if used on your PS3 if
-the media is made from high quality (not those rm2 dvds)
-its burned in a very low speed. extremely low.
-not scratched what so ever.
Like Lapaq said in other thread, what good is an original DVD when its scratched to Timbuktoo...

i agree with you....but then, i only play ori ps3 games (not that many too, mostly DLC), never ever used any dvd or cd on it, and my blu rays are all ori too..the dark knight i just tore of the wrapper before watching it too...
so i guess i got a bad lens.....
