And another question: I noticed not all games support 1080p. I played abit of Valkyria Chronicles (it says 720p on the box) and RE 5 and wasn't impressed by a few things:

1.) VC: Some lines on are jagged, Anti-aliasing looks bad. Is this normal in the game or is it because of the game upscaling it to my monitor? (1080p)
2.) RE5: Images aren't the sharpest i've seen. Due to upscaling? Or am i just too used to PC 1080p gaming? Also during the starting cinematics where zombies were running around, i saw some split second "after-images". Refresh rate problem?
3.) Wanted: Weapons of Fate Demo: The game just looks bad.....maybe its the game itself?

Perhaps bad HDMI cable? What you guys think?

1) Its a cel-shaded game, AA aren't usually applied in cel-shaded games. More over, PS3 uses quincux AA instead of multi-sampling AA, jaggys are bound to appear when its stretch onto a 1080p screen. More over, you are sitting not more than 3 feet away from your monitor I assume.

2) Upscaling is the big part of it, RE5 on the PS3 has some pretty dismal low-res textures. Its the way the games is made. As for the "ghosting" a.k.a after-images, its your monitor.

3) The actual resolution of Wanted is only 1024x576, which isn't even 720p. Its upscaled through software to 720p and then it has to upscale using your TV to 1080p. Just imagine how much resolution loss is there.

Nothing to do with a bad HDMI cable, because if it is you would get juttery lines over your screen already.

Hmmm...thanks for the answers. Very informative. thumbup.gif

So about problems caused by up-scaling, will it help if I forced the PS3 to use 720p instead of 1080p in the video settings?

You should also know that many games don't go into its default 720p when you leave 1080p checked under your PS3 settings(unless you have both on). The game will simply output at 480p/576p, which obviously would look horrendous on a 1080p screen.

As to your question, no it wouldn't do a difference. Blurry textures can't be avoided, its just the way it is.

Hi guys,

I have a problem that I hope maybe some of you pros can help me with.
I've tried many different methods but none seem to work.
Here's a rundown of the problem.

I'm using an Asus PG221 for display for my PS3.
As such, I havta rely on a HDMI->DVI cable for image.
For audio, I'm using optical out on an old pair of speakers, Creative PlayWorks PS2000 Digital.

The problem I'm currently facing is that with this setup, some gametend to not emit any sound.
I'm currently playing Burnout Paradise w/out sound.
Some demos that I have tried also hav the same problem, ie. KillZone2.

I've tried resetting the PS3 but it doesn't seem to work.
Once I change the display to HDMI, the sound cuts off.
I've tried also to link up the AV Multi cable that comes with PS3 (ie. Yellow/Red/White cable)
It only works wen I use the AV Multi to connect but once I change the display to HDMI, the sound cuts off.

I hope I haven't been too long winded, jus trying to giv u guys d clearest picture I can.

Please help. It's frustrating me to bits!

when u're on hdmi, the audio is supposedly to be transferred through hdmi also. so u need to go to sound setting, change the output to optical.

Go to sound settings, and change your audio output to optical-out. I suspect its currently set to HDMI or AV Multi and thus you're not getting any sound.

Fellow PS owners. I have a big problem with my PS3 80GB. Please find below a description of it:

1. When I pressed to PS button on the controller (battery fully charged), PS3 does not turn on. 4 lights on controller blinking. Connect to USB and pressed PS button, does not turn on. 4 lights blinking. Connect controller to USB, press power button on PS3, boots up and ask to press PS button. Can connect. Disconnect USB no problem. But when turn off and turn on again with pressing PS button, problem repeats. Suspect problem with bluetooth. Pattern is the PS3 can only be turned on by the power button, controller needs to be paired everytime.

2. Cannot connect to internet. Scan for my Wi-Fi access point, cannot detect. Detect other wireless devices, cannot detect. Connect using LAN cable, cannot connect.

I don't know, but it feels like the network/wireless module is fried.

Any opinions? Anyone have such problem before?

1) This is something I've experienced a couple of weeks ago. The reason why this happened is because "somehow" your controller doesn't come on as player 1 anymore, but instead player 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7. You CANNOT turn on your PS3 if the controller isn't in player 1. How this happened, there are various reasons but one of them is improper shutdown/restarts.

- What I did was completely switch off my PS3.
- Then connect my DS3 to my PS3 via a USB cable.
- Then after that, I turn on my PS3 with the power button and then turn on my other SIXAXIS controller.
- Then I set the SIXAXIS controller to player 2.
- After that I turn on my DS3, note that its still connected to the PS3 via the USB cable.
- After turning on, my DS3 is in player 1 automatically.

I turned off my PS3 with the DS3 after that. Then turn it back on again via the power button and turn on the DS3 first.
Problem fixed.

This fix most definitely needs 2 controllers though, as you need to trick the PS3 back into thinking you have a player 1 controller turning it on.

2) If the green light infront of your PS3 is still blinking, it isn't fried. Is it still blinking then?

1) Will try ur trick. But I doubt it'll help though.

2) You mean the light beside the HDD indicator? There's no light anymore. I think the lightning fried it yesterday. Came in thru the LAN port.

Thanks for the feedback bro.

malaysian id means you are registered in malaysia. so for your malaysia id. you will only be able to buy from psn malaysia store. you can still play online with whoever. unless the game itself is region locked.

Thanks, its in the first page. I read it before but I forgot the info is there.

Hey I bought the Flower game from PSN SG store. Its a simple game navigating the wind to a nicely 3D field to pick up the flowers using your SIXAXIS movement only. Very relaxing stress free game. Anyone tried it?
