I am thinking of applying for the dev team lead position in Experian Cyberjaya. Looking at the posts, it looks like there will be a test. The JobStreet ad mentioned requirement knowledge of C#/C/C++.

My questions:
1. What is the format of the test? Multiple choice or subjective with coding?
2. What languages will be tested?
3. Anything else i need to know for the test, like any database questions? If database knowledge required, what databases do I need to know?
4. Any other pointers on what I need to know for the test?

Thanks,
Raz

Do you know which unit you are interviewing for? There are different units in Experian Malaysia (DA, Cheetamail, Hitwise, QAS etc) and each unit have different requirements. The answers to your questions will depend very much on the unit you are trying for.

I can't comment much on the test as I have not taken it before. So any details I give here may not be as accurate as I want it to be cry.gif

The only detail I can recall is you will be required to write blocks of code. Sorry I can't be more specific. Know your stuffs really well - memory management, hash tables, dictionary etc. I don't think QAS requires any specific database knowledge.

No doubt the test will be tough but if you're someone who is passionate about programming and you know your stuffs, it should go fine. The real tough part is the interview with the team leads/hiring managers. This is where your passion, knowledge, creativity will be put to the test.

Good luck. Experian has a good working culture and definately worth all the trouble you are going or will go though biggrin.gif

From what I've seen so far, for those that are functional more than technical, chances of you getting into experian seems to be close to zero.

And they have been massively hiring for quite some time. The positions have not been filled up which can mean:

a) they are rapidly expanding
b) Interview / filtering criteria is high
c) turnover is high
*
i've been working for experian for about 6 months now, Experian is still hiring bcoz of factor (b) followed by (a). Turnover is pretty low so far in the unit I'm working for

can anyone please share the company benefits?

-> bonus: average how many months, we all know mostly it is performance-based but there always hv average such as normally majority will get 1 month / 1.5 months / 2 months etc...

-> increment / promotion: how is the increment or promotion chance? certain companies are very hard to get promotion / increment

thank you very much in adv
*
experian adopts a performance based increment and bonus scheme tied to the performance of the company for that given financial year. there is a rating of 1-5 (1 being worst, 5 being excellent). So if the the average increment rate is 6% (example), if u get a low rating, your increment will be less than the average but if you get a good rating, you will get a higher than average rate. Same with bonus.

promotion depends on your unit but they do reward high performers very well whether in terms of promotion or increment

Can anyone share how the technical exam for PHP developer? This position for Hitwise account. anangryorc mentioned we need to revise on OOP and design patterns.
Also anyone pass the exam? If not pass the exam, are they will forward to another account manager to be interviewed? If so, which account that they will forwarded?

Honestly i still don't get clear picture about this role. What i understand that this post need to have a passion of software development, building rich web  applications and they're practicing agile methodology.

Highly appreciated for your valuable feedback.
*
if you have been doing php all this while and is pretty interested in this field (as in keep yourself up to date in the industry) you will do fine. the first obstacle is the test - multiple choice. if you fail this one, you probably won't get an interview. experian will cross reference your skill set with all the openings they have. if you fail this but if you have the skills required for another unit, they will forward you to that unit.

what don't you understand about the role? maybe i can help while I am still online

good luck!

I see.. I know the technical test is so difficult for me since the questions includes logical thinking, programming, SQL injection, DB, agile methodologies. All 64 questions. Bit tough for me since i am not very up to date. Hehe.

My role now is developing the system mostly application system that been assigned from my officer. Sit with the client to get the requirement and feedback so the system still in the track. Demo the systems once completed and launch it.
Is these cycles have similarity with this post?
Honestly, i want more exposure like the technology, methodologies, ideas since at my place has very limited knowledge that i can acquire. Hard for our team to get the training too.

Thank you so much DarkAeon.

This role is generally a development post. You generally will be assigned to a project team and your work includes possibly technical design, coding and writing unit tests. This post doesn't require you to face the client. All of Hitwise's development projects are run using Scrum but prior experience in Scrum is an advantage but not required.

Yes the interviews and tests are difficult - its because you will be working with a very smart and capable team. if you aren't well equip and not passionate, you will fall behind even if you are hired.

Working environment in Hitwise is excellent - generally western culture with flexible working hours, opinions and views are highly appreciated, good training and learning opportunities etc

Hope this helps.

Why, it is no surprise the the HR Director would stoop that low to insult either a potential candidate or an employee.

rclxms.gif

Well, this thread is mainly dead now. For new potential candidates who're thinking of applying to Experian, you're probably better off elsewhere.

Hitwise is losing their QA like arteries lose blood. Apparently it's because of the relatively new lady manager.
If you're thinking about joining the QA team, you should heed the sign.

Cheetahmail's turnover rate? Well, it's been pretty bad last year. This year saw a few left.
There're dissent among employees. Griefs mostly caused by managers who don't know what they're doing.

Experian isn't as great as what it used to be (or what they claimed to be).

mbcx4jrh, why don't you tell us why you left?
*
well no offence, a post like this from an account with the name 'Throw Away Account' and only 3 posts doesn't really scream credibility to me. Care to clarify some details other than guesses and hearsays?

And you are? Don't criticise others for hiding behind a disposable account if you aren't prepared to declare your own interests.

If I worked in such an environment, there is no way I'd been seen criticising the management any way they could trace back to me.
*
let's be clear here, i am not the one making accusations. when you make accusations in the public and you hide under a disposable account, I pointed it out, I am at fault here? I don't understand your logic really.

all i can see is some disgruntled employee(s) creating multiple accounts possibly to disseminate biased information and we see that a lot here.

so don't throw your frustrations at me. grow some balls - you don't have to leave your name but come on a disposable account? just use a real account and tell us the actual situation minus the rumours or hearsay. then let the readers decide. it is better for everyone reading it. really

Joe, I think u mistake me as that HR Director using another account to counter you. You really got it wrong this time.

I am NOT accusing that 'throw away account' of making things up - this is what I said "well no offence, a post like this from an account with the name 'Throw Away Account' and only 3 posts doesn't really scream credibility to me. Care to clarify some details other than guesses and hearsays?"

Throw away account was clearly using the word apparently - that clearly showed me he/she did not get that info first hand. And it is true an account with that name and with only 3 posts can be created to deliberately attack anyone.

So be fair here and don't put words into my mouth. I am interested however of your personal views of the company. Care to share?

Nope. Wrong again I never thought you were that corrupt shitbag. SO WHO ARE YOU?

You are Experian. Your previous posts on lowyat suggest so. Why hide? Why attack others who give opinions?

Stop hiding.

For the second time....i DID NOT attack anyone. I just pointed out the obvious and I wanted the hear the real actual confirmed stories about the company rather than rumours or "I hear it from joe that xxxxx". I don't have to tell u but I have decided to reveal my intentions due to your wild and unsubstantiated allegations.

I went as far as second interview for a Senior PHP Developer in hitwise long time ago, I got to talk to Daniel Walters the head of development and ask him lots of questions about the internal workings, culture, values of hitwise. Personally i think he is passionate about what is doing and he believed in what he is doing. hitwise scores high marks in my books. I don't really know what happens in cheeta or DA but I would love to try again to apply to hitwise if there is an opening. So yeah, I have an indirect link to Experian, hence, I modified my comments to reflect that. And yeah, I know the culture, how performance are measured etc because I asked and I got a tour and I have friends who is still working there.

So i am keen to hear some real stories from another angle so that i can make an informed decision in the future

Joe, just my honest 2 cents - i feel you are really angry with the company, i don't really know what happened but come on dude - we don't look back in anger.

I don't have to back what I say here with credibility. It's a online forum. Anonymity is afforded as long as anyone wants it. Whether readers take what I say with a pinch of salt is up to them.
Ditto.

If this company is truly good, why isn't anyone else singing praises lately. Gone are the good old days?
*
"I don't have to back what I said" - there you go, u just destroyed your credibility yourself. It is true that you can say anything you want without backing it up. It just makes your story unbelievable and very close to a troll.

No company is truly good or bad - even i know that. If you can find a company that is all good, let me know first thing

I don't know why you want to thank me for you just said I don't have credibility and my claims are wild and unsubstantiated.

So I said something good about Hitwise Software Development and suddenly that's a lot more believable than the bad things?

I love the contradiction.

Edit:
BTW, I don't want to continue the argument about my claims being wild or that I lack credibility and shit.

I don't care about credibility. I never once asked that anyone believe my claims. Anyone here is free to take what I said with a pinch of salt. Or lots of salt.

Added on September 8, 2012, 10:21 amAlso, Hitwise yearly increment and bonus % is measly.

If you want fatter paycheck that grows exponentially faster, join Cheetahmail. If you don't mind the Chinaman head or the work environment. Hitwise people always get jealous at Cheetahmail's bonuses.
*
u see, only joe made wild claims againts me (about me being in Experian and shit) and not u Throw Away Account. The very fact that u think I was talking about u is very interesting and one can make the connection very easily.

i thank you because for once u r talking about your own experiences and not some shit u heard from pantry or coffee bean or toilet. u don't care about credibility but readers like me do, so thanks for thinking about us all this while.

again, i have no interest in arguing with anyone here - i am just after the facts and nothing else

I have every right to point out the credibility of any posts while remaining anonymous myself - why is it wrong for me to question what someone has written here? This is a forum and it is meant to work this way from the planet I am from.

Just because u dare me to show myself doesn't mean I have to do it. I am using my one and only account which have hundreds of post indicating I am an actual forumer and not an account created to bash anyone specifically. That's all you need to know.

I am sorry to hear what Experian did to you and the circumstances surrounding your wife. I won't comment on this as I don't know the details

I have decided to move on from this thread as I have all the info I need about this company.

actually experian major problem is not hectic work or less benefits ... it's another issue.

they have a serious problematic senior management issue and business direction problem ... hence the pay so good, environment good, benefits not bad, no hectic workload, no formal wear ... but people still choose to leave. and I don't mean local managers attitude issue, most of the local managers in cyber are very friendly and easy going, you will notice that when you go interview.

business direction issues = profitability issues = diminishing income = reduced compensation = unhappy employees

the layoff department (division) does not do well in term of business. And, all fault is actually from parent country of the business (melb in this case). But melb choose to blame KL division, thus when Experian sell of the business, Melb somehow propose to new company to layoff KL staff. Wish the melb staff work well with their new owner now.  hmm.gif hopefully melb can make profit to the new owner as they cant blame others anymore for bad business.
*
when a strategy failed, what do they do? they fire the underlings. and they wonder why the business didn't turn around

unfortunately that is not exclusive to experian

although not exclusive to experian, this company is very aggressive in hiring and firing people based on business needs.
it is a financially driven company through heavy data analytic by finance teams.
The reason of layoff is unlike MAS or petronas where they need to stay profitable, but more like to achieve 50% profitability instead of 20% profitability.

can't blame them. it's all about the money.

when the money comes, good times
when the money dried, be prepare to cry
