No you cannot use 3g case back for 2g but I have 3g look casing for 2g, check out my thread.

hardware unlock for iphone 3g baseband 02.30.03 is using sim unlocker to unlock or the other alternative is hardware downgrade to 2.2 n yellowsnow it but upgrade to 2.2.1 will lock back again.
