QUOTE(Fyrekat @ Feb 6 2009, 06:06 PM)
It's always good to see a club's supporters remembering the club's history, whether it be painful or joyful memories.

As a football fan, I will pay my respects as well.

Good to hear that mate. Both of us set of fans share something in common, in that we have a painful episode involving unnecessary deaths etched in the history of both clubs. When it comes to things like these its best we keep all rivalries aside and pay our respects. Which is why I cringe when some fans find it funny to sing about Munich or Hillsborough.

Might make it for the gath this time. Been awhile since I've watched a United game with you all. Last time out it was that loss to Arsenal. Ouch. But I can't be a jinx becoz the first time we met up we thrashed West Brom (was it?) so convincingly. I'll try my best. I've got redscorpion's number. Will inform him if I'm coming.

West Ham v Man Utd preview

QUOTE
Manchester United travel to West Ham on Sunday looking to extend their record-breaking run in the league.

The Red Devils have not lost in the league since their 2-1 reverse against Arsenal in November, a period which stretches over 12 games.

The game at Emirates Stadium was also the last time the Red Devils conceded a league goal, resulting in goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar breaking the Premier League record set by Petr Cech in 2003/04 for the most minutes without conceding in the league.

United's 1-0 win over Everton last week saw the Dutch stopper add the Football League record to his collection after surpassing Reading's Steve Death's effort of going 1,103 minutes without being beaten in league competition in 1979.

The record-breaking run has taken Sir Alex Ferguson's side to the summit of the table where they sit two points above Liverpool with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola has been quietly been improving the fortunes of the Upton Park club.

West Ham are currently six games unbeaten in the league and will be confident of upsetting the champions after holding Arsenal to a draw at Emirates Stadium last time out.

The former Chelsea star has his side playing some attractive football at present and striker Carlton Cole in particular is flourishing under the Italian's guidance.

West Ham team news

January signing Savio could make his full debut on Sunday after coming off the bench in his only two appearances for the club against Hull City and Arsenal.

Midfielder Radoslav Kovac could also make his debut for the Hammers after the 29-year-old began training this week for the first time since arriving on loan from Spartak Moscow in the window.

Fellow midfielder Kieron Dyer is struggling with a muscle injury after making just two substitute appearances since recently recovering from a broken leg which kept him out for 17 months.

Striker Dean Ashton (ankle) and defender Danny Gabbidon (groin) remain long term casualties.

United team news

Striker Wayne Rooney could make a return from a hamstring injury which has kept him out of the team's last five games, with United winning them all.

Boss Ferguson knows that if he recalls the 23-year-old he is then likely to be named in Fabio Capello's squad to face Spain on Wednesday.

Full-back Patrice Evra is back in training and vying for a first team place after injuring his ankle in the 3-0 win over Chelsea on 11th January.

Winger Nani is also in contention after he overcame a groin injury he picked up in the Carling Cup semi-final second leg against Derby over two weeks ago.

Midfielder Anderson (ankle), defenders Rafael (hamstring), Fabio (groin) and Jonny Evans (ankle) remain sidelined.

Possible starting XIs

West Ham: Green, Neill, Ilunga, Collins, Upson, Behrami, Parker, Noble, Collison, Di Michelle, Cole.

Man Utd: Van der Sar, Brown, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Ronaldo, Park, Carrick, Fletcher, Berbatov, Tevez

Rooney decision left to Capello

QUOTE
Sir Alex Ferguson will leave it up to England boss Fabio Capello to decide whether to take Wayne Rooney to Seville for the friendly with Spain.

The Manchester United striker is in Ferguson's squad to face West Ham on Sunday but has already been told he will not be starting the match.

Ferguson revealed the bad weather this week has meant United have done less arduous training sessions than he had hoped, which has cost Rooney the vital edge he needed to start against the Hammers.

The United manager intends to speak with Capello to give the Italian the latest update on Rooney's fitness, but will leave it to the England coach to make the final decision.

Capello is due to name his squad on Saturday evening and Rooney would almost certainly be part of it if the England coach feels he can make a worthwhile contribution.

Indeed, Rooney might actually benefit from a 20-minute substitute appearance, although Ferguson has made it clear that is a decision Capello must take for himself.

"I have not spoken to Fabio but I hope to do so in order to explain the situation," said Ferguson.

"He can then decide after dialogue with the physios whether it is worth taking Wayne to Seville.

"I have no strong issue with that. It is a question of whether he would play or be a substitute, which is the same position as I am in.

"It is up to Fabio. I really have no strong objection to that."

Ferguson also confirmed Gary Neville will miss the West Ham trip with a virus that forced him to come off against Everton last Saturday.

His automatic replacement, Wes Brown, does have a bruised foot, but is expected to play.

hahaha... relak, he only say IF.
I remember reading some articles saying after the Munich disaster, Man Utd had to put up a team within 2 weeks time to play in FA Cup.
That time Man Utd only left 5 reserve players and 2 teenage youth players which still short of 4 players... incredibly, 2 players Harry Gregg and Bill Foulkes from the survivor list stood up and help the team.
Then the last 2 players I think is from last minute signing.

Man Utd won that match 3-0 with a strong 60K supporter backing them.
Sadly Man Utd ended that season empty handed and lost in the FA Cup final to Bolton 2-0.

The promise of a generation lost. But may their spirit live on for many more generations ahead.

May they rest in peace.

p.s. A more light hearted break, the story behind our recent photo shoot:

Slightly long article on Teveth's upcoming film:

I'm sure at least a part of us wants him to stay United for years to come.

United clean up January awards
user posted image

QUOTE
Manchester United duo Sir Alex Ferguson and Nemanja Vidic have been named as the Barclays Manager and Player of the Month respectively.

United picked up maximum points from their five matches in the Premier League in January without conceding a single goal, beating Chelsea, Wigan, Bolton, West Brom and Everton.

Vidic produced a string of impressive defensive displays but also contributed at the other end, netting against both Chelsea and West Brom.

The award is Vidic's first monthly player award, while his manager takes the honour for the 22nd time.

Wo ho! Vidic fo the January Player of the Month ey? It is his first, congratulations. He definitely deserves the award as in January it was one hell of performance from him both defending and all of the goals.

Now, go get the Player of the Year!

Seconded. Vida for Player of the Year! cool2.gif

But he's got unfinished business in Europe; some stellar performances against the likes of Inter and Barca (fingers crossed) pocketing the likes of Zlatan & Messi, he should be well in contention.

Reds boosted by Rooney news

QUOTE
Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra could make the bench on Sunday, but the Reds will definitely travel to West Ham without skipper Gary Neville.

At his pre-match press conference on Friday, Sir Alex Ferguson said Rooney and Evra are not in a position to play 90 minutes yet.

"[They] won’t start the game," the United boss said. "They’ll possibly be on the bench. They’re not quite 100 per cent but they’re not far away."

Rooney hasn't played since injuring his hamstring against Wigan Athletic on 14 January. Evra limped out of the Reds' victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford three days earlier.

Meanwhile, Sir Alex hopes Wes Brown recovers from a knock in time to cover for Neville.

"Gary hasn't recovered from his illness which caused him to come off last week against Everton," confirmed Sir Alex.

"Wes has a bruised foot from a tackle near the end of that game but hopefully he'll be okay for Sunday. I would imagine Wes will replace Gary at right back. And Ferdinand and Vidic will be there as a partnership, which gives us that solid back four look."

United's hosts West Ham have also been solid in recent weeks, registering consecutive clean sheets in the league against Hull at home (2-0) and Arsenal away (0-0). Four wins and two draws put them second only to the Reds in the form table.

"We’ve got a difficult game at West Ham on Sunday," said Sir Alex.

"It's always difficult to go there, we’ve lost two titles there, so we know the extent of the challenge. Also, they've improved a lot in recent months under Gianfranco Zola.

"They've only conceded seven goals in the last eight league games. That's a clear indication of how the team has developed under Zola. Given West Ham's finanical difficulties and the fact he's had to sell players, he has done a remarkable job.

"So we know it will be hard down there, but if we're going to go to grounds where the home side is playing at its optimum, then you just hope your own team is also in its best form. I think we are, at the moment."
