Pick=Ring-y/punchy tone because of more overtones created by picking with a guitar pick.. sounds harsh and limited dynamics

Fingerstyle=Warm and more string-fret attack due to finger plucking.. more dynamics

well, you can get a pick-ish tone from fingers as well, try leaving your nails a little bit but not too much. the extra nail will give it a harsher, less warm tone icon_rolleyes.gif

just go for fingering..
so much u can do with it such as tapping, popping, slapping, thumb etc..
its impossible for u to do those things while holding a pick..

all depends wat style u want also.
if u think u have no use for slapping etc, why bother with fingers?

and those who say using pick got no or little dynamics...so does that mean all guitarists who play with picks have no dynamics? think about that.

its all in how u control the pick and ur wrist.

I love playing with the fretboard more than the right hand ... I like making solos and add improvisation to a song ! It's fun =D

The dynamics we're talking here are the ones that are distinctive to the bass itself, like alternate plucking, muting, slapping, popping, and finger nuances... They are totally different from the dynamics you would want to get when playing the guitar..

And when you play with a pick, it's just totally different from using the fingers.. Simple as that.
