Gong Xi Fatt Chai to all Si Fu,

I recently brought this Gigabyte 9800GTX+ 1GB DDR3 & tried to overclock it. Unfortunately it has bad bios version on it so couldn't overclock at all. I used GPUZ to detect its GPU core, shader & memory all was 0 & used riva tuner to overclock it & was unable to do so. I have succesfully overclock a 8800GTS before therefore it was not the mobo problem. I suspect the bios problem & sent the card back to the center & changed a new one. This time the GPUZ detected its GPU core, shader & memory correctly but wasnt able to stable oc & fan speed was unable to detect on GPUZ & riva tuner. I checked GPUZ & found bandwidth was same original & oc. I suspect this is the problem can anyone vertify this? I have attached the result of the GPUZ. From my past experience as i overclock the GPU the bandwidth will increased is this the same for 9800GTX+? I have only increased the core from 740 to 800 & not stable at all. vmad.gif The memory are left default. Need some advice from Si Fu here. Thank you.

Regards,
Lam

about the GPUZ bandwidth problem......i use to have that problem with my 9800gt and i found out if when exit the GPUZ and open it again it'll show the correct memory bandwidth.

iinm the newer version of GPUZ fixes that problem.

ya, increase the memory speed to get more bandwidth.
about the core speed, maybe u already hit the limit..

Thanks guy ya the memory speed increased with bandwidth but i can run 3dmark06 stable at core oc @780 that is very low lar. cry.gif I was hoping to get more around 800 as the cover says use solid capacitor, zalman fan etc to help oc but actually very low oc. I was uanble to set the fan speed to 100% at all. Maybe this is the problem as heat make the oc unstable?

Ya installed the gamerHUD but the interface n function are lacking. You can oc with it but does not allow you to save different preset & monitor your fan speed. The only thing i like about it its the voltage that can be modify with software for more oc but i dont think my mere oc will need it. I use riva tuner n like it a lot. Back to the issue i can get this card stable at the speed against ori.

ori vs oc
core 740 780
shader 1850 1950
memory 1000 1070

The oc are very worst against my previous 8800GTS 320MB

ori vs oc
core 513 660
shader -
memory 800 1000

My luck with this card are very damn bad. rclxub.gif I am thinking of sending this card back as i can argue that it does not allow me to control the fan speed. Anyway they start operation on next monday so untill then i have time to mess with this card Any recommendation on squeezing this baby?

if not mistaken default memory speed for gtx+ is 1100.

What memory chips do you have? Does the chips have heatsink on it? If not add some memory sinks.

My gtx+ right now is running 1150 stable no problem. I haven't had time to see how high it can go before giving artifacts. I usually take my time with overclocking. I am a slow overclocker... smile.gif

Bro my 9800GTX+ are very odd spec with core 740 shader 1850 memory 1000. Beside that it has only a 6pin connector not two as default should be 2. Dont get me wrong with 9800GT This is a 9800GTX+. I know the default spec should be 1100 but i do not know what gigabyte did with it. Mine are samsung chips with no heat sink & are located under the zalman fan to cool off. I read all oc guide to 9800GTX+ & know it is good at oc memory 1150 to 1250 but i just cant get this baby to stable at even 1100 maybe my luck very bad doh.gif See my post earlier on my 8800GTS oc result i got there at small increasement. What to do? cry.gif

Added on February 3, 2009, 4:44 pmAll right guys, yesterday sent back the darn gigabyte 9800GTX+ to store in exchange for MSI N9800GTX+ OC. THis baby default are core 760 & memory 1150. I can only oc to core 810 & memory 1250. Fan left default. Should i set the fan 90% to get it stable at core 820?
