Hi guys (and girls) I'm actually looking into getting a N79 to replace w810i (about time I joined the Nokia club ) However, my mom told me (she called up this seller she frequents) that from what she was told - out of 10 N79 (ori) owners, 8 complained that it hung easily. (Please don't ask me how accurate the statistics are! >.<) Since you guys are all owners of N79s.. I figured that you guys would know much better. Advise please? Much appreciated!

QUOTE(kayx @ Aug 6 2009, 10:25 PM) forumers here will tell you otherwise, 8/10 have no problem.. right guys? i don't really trust handphone shop sellers when it comes to smartphones, i'm not generalizing but not many of them knows how to squeeze or make the most out of symbian smartphones, so your mom may be dealing with one.. OR.. your mom should start to avoid the seller coz he sells a lot of problematic handphones! QUOTE(HEERO @ Aug 6 2009, 10:34 PM) Yea!!! I'm totally agree with u. Seen i used N79 so long, it's no serious problem. Some how the "hang" problem will be solve as u had upgraded to latest firmware version. On the other hand, all handphone shop seller will give prior to earn more profit, therefore only expensive phone model wil be introduce or said by them is perfect. Thanks, I think you all raised really good points there.. In fact, yea he recommended N82 and XM5800 >.< Alrite, hoping to get my first brand new Nokia model soon! Lols. Now to decide on where I should buy it

QUOTE(kayx @ Aug 8 2009, 11:30 AM) sometimes the recommend u certain model.. coz they want to clear stock.. like n82 Thanks Kayx. BTW, I checked out Atria yesterday and they were selling the ori model for close to RM1.3k A question (to all lol) Would you guys think it would be possible for me to get it for under RM1.2k in Lowyat/ Sg Wang/ anywhere else? And how would I know for sure that what I'm getting is truly original? One more thing.. How do I extend my warranty if possible?

QUOTE(smokey @ Aug 12 2009, 10:43 AM) check with e_trade_pj in garage sales...should be 1200 max nw from his price list... Thanks smokey! Now that I have a place in mind on where to get the phone.. I've got a few questions about the apps. I love the Gmail application! However, may I know whether the Gmail app for the N79 is able to download/ upload MS Office files? Is there any way that I can open and edit MS Office files on the N79? Also, the seller told me that they would charge a RM30 fee if I were to ask him to install Garmin XT.. Did you guys install it on your own or what? And I saw some forumers talking about some Malsing thing.. What does it do exactly? I'm looking to install an IM client that can support both GoogleTalk and Windows Live. Saw earlier that someone suggested 'Agile Messenger 3'? Any comments? There's so many applications that I'm starting to feel really overwhelmed! But I would really appreciate it if you guys could help me out with this. Thanks!

Hey guys, I dunno if i'm a bit paranoid or what, but according to the N79 user guide, one of the signs of a battery's authenticity is the hologram sticker. If you tilt it at different angles, you'll be able to see one dots, two dots, three dots, and four dots surrounding the NOKIA word. How exactly do I verify the authenticity of my battery? BTW, is it normal for the battery to last two full days before requiring another recharge? For the record, I've been accessing a lot of apps (weell, it's my first time using the phone!) That aside, I'm very happy with it! The only thing that sucked was I wanted the phone in grey. But white's not that bad either!

Guys, my N79 confirmed quite badly water-immersed... Mobile Technic can only give me the quotation tomorrow :'( Feeling really upset right now, I really love the phone but I made a mistake of not taking extra precautions with it. What I wanna know is, any fellow forumers here who may have experienced the same problem? How much do you think the repair will cost? Not my day today

QUOTE(aspire2oo6 @ Jul 11 2010, 01:24 PM) It depends on how much water entered. Usually if your phone drop in water the immediate instinct u should do is remove the battery. The risk of your phone surviving is higher. If didnt its better u get ready to buy a new phone because the motherboard will get short circuit. No matter what without changing the entire motherboard the phone will never be the same again even repaired. My case was i took my phone with me while showering. I put on top of a cupboard somenut keep calling me it keep vibrate vibrate then some how it drop and flew into the big water basin. I immediately took out the phone and remove the battery. I leave it there for 2 weeks. After that i try put battery in and turn on it still works. OMG... 2 weeks?? That's some patience, man. It was water immersed last Friday. Only removed the battery and sun-dried it till I saw the water cleared from the screen. AND then I made the mistake of using my phone all the way till last Wednesday (when it refused to charge nor switch on)... No choice coz I was in a middle of nowhere and I badly needed to use the phone. But thanks aspire2oo6, for sharing your anecdotes! EDIT: Called Mobile Technic 1U - the lady said it would be quite a waste to repair the phone as the PCB is completely water-immersed. She says no point repairing as in the future, there will be more repairs ahead. Time to get a new phone This post has been edited by myching: Jul 11 2010, 09:21 PM

QUOTE(aspire2oo6 @ Jul 11 2010, 10:12 PM) As long as the PCB dont get fried or short-circuit by water your phone can still be saved. Actually u can make it 1 week by use hair dryer to dry it up. Hehe but patient have save me RM500 - RM700. I am sorry about your case but like she said its best you buy a new phone. Here a few recommendation Nokia E72 Nokia N97 mini Nokia N900 Nokia 5800XM Ya, just not my luck... But at least I would have learned from this costly mistake! Gonna consider getting either something from the N-series or the E-series one day.. Thanks for the recommendations!
