Hello everyone, how's the Chinese new year celebration going on? Just wondering what would be a good upgrade for kitlen 1870? Let's say wide angle wise between Tamron1750 & Sal16105? Budget RM3000, purpose of usage for indoor and outdoor.

p/s: is f2.8 really important?

im agree with you.. but do we really need f/2.8 with that? unsure.gif

I hope someone can answer this...it's giving me a headache choosing between the 1750 f2.8 and 16105 f3.5 rclxub.gif

i vote for Sal16105 ...
and for the extra budget left , save up a bit more for UWA or macro lens pulak hehe  brows.gif
*

But this lens is always resale able due to its f3.5 and not fast (claim by some use-to-be owners). I'm torn between the 16-17 wide and also the 50-105mm zoom cry.gif ....actually plan to get both but seems it's not a wise decision as advice by some people i ask.

Another solution would be:
1. Get the Tamron 1750 for the f2.8 and get a bagpack(since i don't have a good one...currently using the sony sling bag)
2. Get the Sal16105 as it covers 16 for wide and 105 mid zoom...and claim have the similar standard to the 1680CZ
3. Get both and settle with it... blink.gif
4. Waiting other options from you bros here brows.gif

If i'm going for the f2.8 all the way might as well go for Tamron1750, Sigma2470 and Sigma70200 thumbup.gif

p/s: UWA is another thing i'm thinking in the future...1118 or 1020 icon_question.gif

WindY2K: If you HAVE to HAVE something beyond 50mm, and have it F2.8, then get:

Tamron 17-50mm F2.8
Tamron 90mm F2.8

You have a flash, you know whether F2.8 is important or not.

Another way, is:
Sony 16-105mm F3.5-5.6 DT
Sigma 30mm F1.4

The 16-105mm is for a wide range. Honestly in walkabouts I never needed more than 100mm.

The 30mm F1.4 is the true champion of low-light. 30mm means its wide enough for getting 2-3 people in a shot sitting opposite you. The 50mm is a bit too tight and will get only 1 person.

The 30mm F1.4 is a great 'party' lens. Just bring body and 30mm, no flash needed.

raist86: There is also the risk of gear stripping on the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG Macro.

When my Sigma 17-35mm F2.8-4 EX gear stripped, I was forced to get a replacement standard lens. I ended up with a Sony 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 DT kit lens once again, and I'd say that when I tried it again I realized it wasn't all that bad and can be pretty sharp once you know how to use it.
*
I knew you going to choose the Tamron 1750..haha...but would the Tamron 90mm will be its partner or another choice?

To tell you the truth, the main reason i got the flash is because to have a good lighting if necessary needed or in a low light condition..ii'll attend my 1st workshop on 21st feb...probably can learn more there..

30mm huh? Most i know was the SAL50mm 1.4 then again that's another story..

By the way, thanks bro.. thumbup.gif

WindY2K: i chose the 17-70mm over the tamron 17-50mm f2.8 and siggy 24-70mm 2.8. The reason: I want a sharp lens and i hardly shoot with 2.8 (or lower)for group pics...(FYI, i shoot mostly indoor/party pix). F2.8 is a bit too shallow for me, and 24mm is a bit too tight on my aps-c(a200). i need a lens with a mdf that doesnt require me to get off from my sit just to shoot the person that is sitting next to me, (17-70 mdf=20cm). just my 2 cents...
*
Just when i thought my dilemma is over...haha...here comes the Sigma 17-70 doh.gif

I browse some pics result of the 1770 i must say it is sharp drool.gif then again this question comes back to me why is the tamron a 'favourite' hmm.gif

p/s: your indoor/party pics attracted me can share me your pics?

If you have the extra cash for the F58...i'm thinking of selling my F42 to fund for the F58..haha brows.gif

raist86: Should be around RM15xx-17xx.

WindY2K: The other thing which anybody who has tried the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC will notice, is the insane minimum focusing distance! At 20cm from the sensor plane to the subject, minus the length of the lens, and you have a lens that practically touches the subject! Try it!

I wish it's as easy as it is in semenanjung bro...i was lucky i can try the 1750 from bro Ryzan...hope i can find someone with the 1770...hehe sweat.gif

the Sig1770 is definitely attractive in terms of the image quality it produces compare to kitlens. My only concern is the build quality.

Did some research...i must say the pic it produce is very sharp...but haven't try it first hand so no comment on the build although alot have said about it.. blink.gif

Yeah, windy2k, go try the lens and u will be amazed:)....mfd of 20cm is very useful (at least for me). I tried the lens in sg wang boeing
*
I hope that lens is available here...the status is always "unavailable" or "haven't order yet"...that's why alot of Sony owners order or bought their gear from semenanjung or online sweat.gif

Depends what you want to do 1st..hehe..
But i'd say 99% would suggest you to get flash THEN get a good lens brows.gif
If you have the budget get the F58 direct...if not F42 will do...for a while wink.gif
