the failure rates of the 500GB/1TB drives with the mentioned firmware serves as a global warning to all existing users knowing that their HDDs are ticking time bombs. So it doesn't matter, the possibility is there, no matter big or not, its better to backup data now and don't regret for not doing so later.

before anything happens, just back up everything, it doesn't matter in a newly bought HDD, blank DVDs or whatsoever as data are more precious than the HDD itself. For me, I would rather buy a new HDD and do backup than to go to a data recovery center to do it >_<
Imagine the cost off a new HDD compared to the data recovery center |
