i updated the firmware already, but still the drive is giving me problems. i can access the drive, but when i want to copy out my data, it just hangs..i can see from the LED indicator that it keeps on reading only, but no response at all. any hope on saving it?

Go to Seagate to download Sea Tool. It can can be used not only for checking your hard disk but also repairing it.

sad, both my 500gb 7200.11 just die on me after 22 month. does seagate still give us foc recovery for this drive?

You can get a new hdd from Seagate but data recovery is way out of the question. But before you do that, use SeaTool to repair your hdd.

Not detect never mind. Burn the SeaTool to a CD and then boot up your pc using that CD.

Then u can go for Long DST check and will be prompted for repairing after some time.

Yes, it will really take some times!!!
