So far I have tested 2 of my 4 harddisk. They all have the same model number and same firmware revision. However, when querying by serial number it shows that 1 out of 2 is affected. Well, just wait and see I suppose, even though more information, transparency and hopefully a Weibull plot from Seagate would have let a lot of us sleep better.

The important thing is critical data should be backed up on another hard disk, or better yet, add an offline optical storage to the mix

Yes, I would consider SD15 a major blip, and the worse was when the original fix caused even more bricking. Thankfully the herculean task of backing up 1.5TB of data out of my 3 HDDs saved me from using the first fix, and ended up with the right one. At the end, there was no problem with those drives afterwards.

Anyway any other drives also will fail, it is just a matter of MTBF. Even my WD ones failed (but thankfully within warranty period)
