the best solution is, Seagate recall those HDD, and give free exchange to newer and problem free HDD
but then, if Seagate does that, but not applicable to OEM drives, then i cry.gif

recall also I will need many extra drives to move the data mah.. how to recall and give up all those TBs.. sigh.

I think the quality problem with Seagate drives lies in the ST power regulator ICs on the controller boards, particularly the UL97 device.. They are of substandard specs..

Whatever it is, just try to stay away from Seagate for now...

nvm la.. get new one with same Firmware... at least can run few weeks / months only die again... swap hdd till Segate Boring only... maybe will come up new firmware smile.gif

if you have important data in the hdd and if your hdd failed because you updated it with 2nd release of SD1A firmware, try to attach it to different controller or different pc, someone from the seagate forum (forgot which one, too many of them regarding this issue) claims the hdd was able to be detected on different setup.. you might be lucky to retrieve your data and wait for workable firmware

i realize this thread after i bought hdd
even worse i realize after hdd dead already sad.gif

never do update firmware or such things
so all the data cannot be save anymore?

they said the data on the platter is intact (only firmware causing it to disappear from computer OS),
but only seagate's data recovery services (or other pro HDD recovery) can recover them..
so masuk hospital lor.. if keranda then cannot even recover the data mah.. tongue.gif

Umm but my seagate "st3500320as" works for 1 yr till now without any clicking noise... btw i nvr dropped my drive when i service it....

what is the firmware that your HDD using?
some just die without warning, u don't even have to physically damage the drive

its stated on the label of the HDD
or u can download the SeaTool from Seagate website to check
SD15 firmware HDD is affected

i am praying hard that my HDD won't brick on me, i need it to do my works, i don't mind if it wanna brick in May (touch wood)
