Go to Seagate to download Sea Tool. It can can be used not only for checking your hard disk but also repairing it.

Well, ask the retailer whom sold you whether they can do specific warranty, I heard Seagate can recover the data for you FOC.
According to one of my friend at KL, he didn't manage to nego with the retailer and he exchange it with a 250GB external HDD, lol... after few months... yep rclxub.gif

I was aiming for 7200.12 before I read this....

phew... (-/_-)X(- _ -)X(-_\-)

read through a few post... very few? (relative to 11 version) cases related to 7200.12....

What's make me step away from 7200.12 is its 3 years warranty period instead of their normal 5 years. Does that mean that they know there is something not right about this platform? I don't want to get into "fix thing" trouble and I also don't want the drive to die suddenly right after 3 years.

Too bad.... this "was" a good choice for me. nice speed, good price.

Okay.... Anyone got some good suggestions for 500 GB drive. mainly gaming & "download/upload" purpose..... \(X0X)/

I just fixed problem with all my Seagate 7200.11 500GB and 320GB that running only SATA-1.5GB previously ... now happily running at SATA 3GB.

Just set jumper near the SATA connector on the harddisk.

By default it was set at SATA 1.5GB only perhaps for compatibility with older board. ... I lol to myself doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

Umm, you're pretty lucky to not have this problem, but it's recommended to flash the firmware, some people just randomly had it after few months, few weeks, 3 days? and some even after 1 year+, and *shrug* didn't backup, retailer does not want to do the fussy warranty, one word "die".
I guess if you frequently backup those data from the HDD, you data should be safe. icon_rolleyes.gif

FYI, Seagate reduced the warranty after this firmware fiasco.

You can get a new hdd from Seagate but data recovery is way out of the question. But before you do that, use SeaTool to repair your hdd.

Not detect never mind. Burn the SeaTool to a CD and then boot up your pc using that CD.

Then u can go for Long DST check and will be prompted for repairing after some time.

Yes, it will really take some times!!!
