IMHO, ES3X is waaaaaaay better than the bundled IEM smile.gif. Very tempting, but does the built-in S-Drive amp able to drive PFEs adequate enough. Also lack of FLAC and OGG/Vorbis do make me think twice, trice,...

Ask yourself, what is the purpose buying DAP/PMP?

1) Sound ?
2) UI ?
3) Gaya, Mutu dan Keungguan? Fashion?
4) Functionality?

To me, my main priority is the Sound Quality (SQ).

Video/Visual quality? No... it still cannot match FULL-HD display.

UI ? Why you need the canggih UI? I just want to listen to the sound with my ears, not my eyes.

Gaya? Most of the time, I kept my PMP in my pocket smile.gif No one can see it...

Functionality? How many % of the functions that you have tried in your PMP? Something with Play, Skip, Pause, File list and volume control is enough smile.gif...

That is my opinions when choosing a PMP.

Thank you. smile.gif

Last evening, I had a chance to play play the X1000 series at SonyStyle@Berjaya Time Square. This is my first impression after playing several songs in the unit for about 10 minutes. Mostly were hip-hop and pops

I was using my faithful PFEs, and sound wise,......

1) WITH noEQ (Flat), Clear Bass : 0 (off), DSEE : OFF.
Sorry to say, iTouch 2G noEQ and no enhancement is little better,

2) Clear Bass 3: Flat EQ. DSEE: On
Nice powerfull bass, feel neither stressed nor underpowered, better than similar setups in iTouch 2G.

3) General sound characteristics.
In one word: Dark. Clear bass, and good treble clarity. Mids/vocal is just so, so. Details were better than other low end Walkman NWZ series, which I auditioned previously.

But, I love the dedicated play, next/skip buttons and volume switch. Very nice touch/idea. BTW, with PFEs, I had to crank the volume up to 30/30 to enjoy it, and no distortion noticed.

So my initial verdict: For average users, SOUND wise, this DAP is VERY GOOD.
If you have iRiver H1x0 + external DAC/AMP, then keep it, your setup sitll theBEST!!! smile.gif
I'ill buy the X1000, IF, I did not met the iBasso D10 and PFEs.

Oya,, forgot 1 thing. If you buy the X1000, then you still can get a free external speaker (worth RW169).

Thank you.

30/30 shocking.gif what is your PFE's impedance rating?? 12 is the maximum i can withstand with my ck100.

Oh and I found that the X1000 seriously need burn in to sound good, from your description I can tell the unit you tested werent burn in for more than 60 hours. The dark sound is the most obvious point I dislike when I got it. But right now at near 75 hours the sound opens up beautifully, the sound is more toward neutral now. From what I heard right now I can feel that it's still not fully burn in. Maybe another 100~200 hour until they are fully burned-in smile.gif
*
Yup, volume level is at 30/30. If I able to use my reference songs, it might be different. PFEs impedence rated at 32 ohm with 107dB@1mW, and yes, it needs lots of power to drive it. I do think X1000 and iTouch 2G are very good driving the PFEs. Ishould tried it with NE-7Ms too. smile.gif. I just tested the display unit, and I don't know how long it had been running/burn-in. Hmmm.. next time I should asked the staff about it smile.gif. OR, can I audtion your X1000 ? smile.gif

As I mentioned earlier, it sound very good, as good as iTouch 2G, but with a bit different sound signature.

BTW: My PFEs already burned in (physical and mentally) for more than 500 hours, and my D10 is more 300 hours.

Yup, MORE POWWWERRR!!!.
I still do find the D10 lacking in power, especially to drive my full sized headphone.

Playlist? Not bother at all. If you copied your favorite files in the DAP, it means you already like/love to songs/musics. So, why bother with playlist ? wink.gif If you want to skip the song, jut click next, next, next smile.gif

Yup, the sound is awesome with UM3X. Magnificent. Don;t care/bother much about the UI, and most of the time I use the dedicated play, skip, volume button only smile.gif Very useful.

X1060 + UM3X = One word. AWESOME

I found it, the highs/treble are more extended than Samsung YP-S5 and iPod. Sorry, busy rignt now, supervising exhibition booth at KL Convention Center. smile.gif

Do try it. Quite very good in SQ. If you don't care about software/games/UI, X1000 do shine in SQ.

To me, the standard price for X1000 is quite pricey. It should be 30% off (which is the price I bought it), to make more irresistible .

Ooo.. BTW, the standard earphones do sound good, but bit lack of bass, compared to my UM3X.

Yes, already bought it... because the Samsung YP-S5 is my wife's. BTW, I got the YP-S5 for free last year. smile.gif... Jangan jealous ... smile.gif
Then, try it with with the 'soon will be' your W3s. I do think W3 will suit your listening preference. More bass and treble with laid back mids/vocal smile.gif.

Wait laaa.. I already returned it for replacement, which will be the one with a better material. I also need to hear how the 'new' PFEs sound likes first. Also, you still need to audition it first, brother... I am afraid if the PFEs are not what you are ooking for. smile.gif

Not yet. But, the frequency response graphs do show similarity between PFEs and ER4, especially in the mid/high region.

Yes, I do agree smile.gif... Then try ask our friend, Mr EFN ... smile.gif

How about, save some money, and try to get IE8 or W3s. which more suitable for your listening taste smile.gif And these IEMs can be driven without AMP.

But, you are welcome to try my IEMs collection for your experiences.

Back to topic. Recently I tried UM3X with iPod Touch 2G, with all effects/eq off, and I think, X1000 did better in BASS presentation and more linear and accurate(?) with volume level. The Touch volume is so powerful, where I cannot 'tahan' with full volume, which I found it just too 'LOUD', (to my ears)

Sony is a very big commercial company. It does not care much about FLAC, OGG, MKV, .. or other codecs, because they confident with current status their product. But we will see later smile.gif I remembered the first Network walkman did not support MP3 at all,, and they included later... Why?
