Kinda hard to “reboot” when the actor who did it for the last three films is still hanging around as the lead, but hey, whatever.

Shouldn't a "reboot" get a new lead? BTW Paula Patton was in "Precious" and that's the only movie I've watched with her in it, really pretty.

Leaked French Trailer

"Ghost Protocol" Trailer will be attached to "Dark of the Moon" so expect an official release in a few days.

If removed watch here: http://thefilmstage.com/2011/06/22/mission...rk-of-the-moon/

Here's hoping Brad Bird has taken the "soul" that made "The Incredibles" a great action/superhero flick and put it to good use in live-action form.

Phew... after 10 reviews RT has it at 90% - meaning it will never be a bad film but it won't be mighty spectacular.

It will still be a Must Watch movie. One of the most awaited movie of the year.

2D still got subtitle not?
*
I really dislike subtitles on 2D. It is covering 30% of the screen from the bottom, quite annoying. Recently watched Digital 2D for "The Muppets" and this was the case.

I remember last time Digital 2D had no subtitles at all (or was it 3D).

Quite annoying considering how sharp and crisp Digital 2D really is. Would definitely prefer MI4 in Digital 2D over 3D.

Watched it today.

One word - explosive! flex.gif

By far one of the best movies of the year ("Potter 7 Pt2", "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" the other two).

Hands down the best MI movie of the lot, and golly me, Brad Bird nailed it.

It has every imaginable ingredient needed for a Hollywood big budget action flick.

This one easily gets a 9/10 from me.

The casting is perfect, and for the 'first' time I noticed how much Tom Cruise has aged... smile.gif But still kicking serious butt!

I asked myself - - what could have been done differently?

Short answer - - nothing.

Highly, highly recommended. What a movie to end the year. Worth waiting this late in the year for this.

This is why I felt MI4 is one of the best movies of the year...

I 'recall' watching MI1 and MI2 but have since forgotten it since those years I was not too much of a cinema go-er. I do recall some of the cool stunts and mind blowing explosions. I also recall Mr Cruise being noticeably younger.

When they decided to do MI4, Tom Cruise had to be in it. It will not be an MI movie without Mr Cruise. And then I heard about the rest of the cast - - very smart! Jeremy Renner ("Hurt Locker"), Paula Patton ("Precious") and Simon Pegg (too many funny flicks to name!).

There is an entire action sequence in MI4 that is downright memorable, and will last the test of time. The Burj Khalifa climb *bows to thee* My hands became sweaty during this. What an incredible concept. To put it on paper is one cool thing, but to execute it the way it was done is a whole other thing. On a more 'eerie' note, apparently Tom Cruise did all the stunts for this sequence. I did not believe it, until I saw an image of Mr Cruise sitting on top of the tower. I mean... wow. The way the scene was set, the build up, the tension and of course the dizzy feeling of height - - you got to give credit to the entire production! It is devilish entertainment at its finest. I also heard the IMAX version of this scene was spellbending and showcases everything IMAX has to offer (apparently there is a much larger view and the glass curves more? No idea..)

The opening sequence was gritty and brutal, the Russian prison escape. You have to love how it opened the movie. Also Sawyer was a bit of a surprise. Sadly, his 'time' on screen was brief but quite memorable.

Elaborate, visionary and downright mind-blowing action sequences fill the movie almost every 5 minutes. At every moment there is tension in the air. MI4 could easily have been a fancy action flick which throws some MI references for the sake of it. It does not.

Also, the very idea that IMF had to be disbanded, they are on their own thing... you have to once again give credit where its due. Rather than following the mundane routine of slapping in another high-stakes mission, this time around there is a genuine sense of "you are on your own". Whatever they were doing was not part of a perfectly pitched plan.

Loved also how they traveled the world as their mission progressed. Mumbai party was particularly memorable thanks to Paula Patton and Anil Kapoor's performances.

Hold on, what about Benji played by Simon Pegg! This character has added a nice, soothing dose of humor for what could have been a very serious film. You have to have a laugh to tame the action, and Simon Pegg delivers (what he does best). Quite surprised Brandt played by Jeremy Renner was equally funny.

The evil villain Hendricks (Michael Nyqvist - wasn't he the 'good guy' in The Girl With a Dragon Tatoo?) is a madman wanting to start a nuclear war for the greater good. In this day and age, such a war is real and when the right parties are provoked it could just happen. And you definitely don't want such a thing happening. I really loved how he always kept a maniacal look - - a typical villain look. I have nothing to complain about the villain here. One of my favorite actors was in the movie, Tom Wilkinson. Saw them together in "Valkyrie".

At the end of the day, I must say MI4 really shines in one area where all the other previous MI films did not - - characterization. Strong characterization thanks also to the driving force of Brad Bird ("Ratatouille", "The Incredibles"). He delivered great standing-ovation worthy action in "The Incredibles" and one can easily see a lot of his vision shining here in live-action form.

I easily give it a 9/10, it is not a 10 merely because it did not have that essential "Don't tell me you haven't watched..." feel. Of course, MI4 will go down as being the most critically acclaimed MI movie ever made and quite possibly one of the most memorable sequences in any movie to date (Dubai skyscrapper). I had no issues at all with pretty much every aspect of the movie. If I can't see how something needs fixing, then the movie is worthy of being a "Must Watch".

MI4 definitely is a "Must Watch" for the year. In Tom Cruise we believe.

Wow. He scaled to the top of Burj Khalifa in MI4, and then this... he did do some other crazy stunts.

The trailer of MI5 was slightly underwhelming when compared to MI4. Also no Brad Bird as director. Here's hoping it turns out to be as good if not better than MI4.

Wow, 93% after 134 review sweat.gif wasn't expecting that.

I thought it was going to be a 'rehashed' been there done that kinda thing.

Besides the film seem to have quite a short post-production timeline and then on top of everything moved from Dec to August.

...Will probably catch it next week.

What.... didn't expect this. I thought it would be MI fatigue / Tom Cruise run of the mill action film all over again but no... biggrin.gif

Some claiming it is one of the best action films ever made? blink.gif

Easily one of the best action films I've seen in years... considering I wasn't a huge fan of 'Rogue Nation', I wondered how this was going to be any better.

They managed to make the most MI film ever - the betrayals, the trickery and the relentless action are on a notch higher than ever seen before.

I watched it on IMAX - - and what a great decision! biggrin.gif Totally, totally worth it.

I'm glad they brought back Julia's character and Luther was there from start to finish.

That helicopter chase sequence.... thumbsup.gif No words to describe it. It surpassed my expectations...

Seems like McQuarrie has the action flick genre figured out - - pleasing both critics and fans alike, something rarely achievable what with the 'high standards' of movie go-ers today tongue.gif

The greatest gift of "Fallout"... has to be...

HENRY CAVILL.

His role as a baddie - - wow. Totally blown away. He comes across as a pissed off Superman that could punch through steel. He truly shines in this role. Nailed it to perfection.

And of course, Tom Cruise for pushing well above his age. You can really, really tell he has pushed himself here more than ever before. The stunts (which I assume were mostly Tom) were truly magnificent.

That bathroom scene. That bike/car chase scene. That helicopter pursuit. That ridiculously stress inducing bomb disarming moment. And a beautifully poignant moment with Ethan's ex-wife.

This is.. the best MI, hands down.

I bet that helicopter scene was filmed on IMAX because it filled the entire screen whereas other scenes had black bars top/bottom. This is the type of film that is worth watching on IMAX. And more so, IMAX 2D.

9.5/10

The gripes were possibly plot points - I get that they were trying to 'deceive' the audience, but at times you could get a bit lost. There were also some scenes that were quite dark (intentional or not), though it never really detracted from the action. I am nitpicking, still this is as close to perfection as you could get.
