In the Wind Capital, a detective, Hidari Shotaro, has an unpleasant woman visit his office, named Akiko.
Obviously younger than him, Akiko goes on to reveal a certificate that claims to make her, in charge of him. Apparently, Akiko is the daughter of Shotaro's captain, Narumi.
Then, another woman appears, saving Shotaro's skin. The second woman is a client, and happens to be Shotaro's elementary school friend Marina. Marina wishes to hire Shotaro to find Togaway, her lover who has gone missing.
Accepting, partially to help his friend, and partially to get away from Akiko, Shotaro heads to where Togawa used to work. There Shotaro finds out from a fellow detective that mysterious goings-on in the building have said to be linked with the Dopant, the mysterious monsters plaguing the city.
As such, Shotaro requests help from his partner, Philip, who has yet to arrive on the scene. By transmistting to him a picture, Philip is able to use 3 keywords- "High Temperature", "Ground" and "Movement", to perform a "Super-Retrieval" within in his own brain, which acts like a super-computer. Having located the site, Shotaro, and Akiko, end up investigating it, and likewise, get attacked.
Then, Shotaro, are Philip, are informed that they have something known as the "W no Factor". This Factor allows them to become Kamen Rider W, and the first of the Gaia Memories is activated...
What is W? and what are the Dopant?

Hidari Shotaro: An active private detective, who considers himself "Hard-Boiled", even though it's more like he's "Half-Boiled". He has an affinity for 70's clothing and culture. Has a great deal of anger towards the Dopant, who attacks the people of his city. Together with Philip, he transforms into Kamen Rider W to fight them.
Philip: Mysterious, and genius, young man. He escaped from a villain's secret hideout with the Gaia Memories, and is usually found in a garage, keeping to himself, as a "desk detective." His brain has the ability to access the "Hoshi no Hondana" ,(Bookshelves of Earth), which can access relative information on the current crime. (Hoshi is also "suspect" in police slang.) When he is needed however, he doesn't hesitate to show up in person.
Narumi Akiko: The acting head of Shotaro's detective bureaux. Daughter of Narumi Soukichi (Shotaro's old boss), she comes from Osaka to head this detective office. She is known as a "woman of good chic." She gets involved with the agency when informtation about/correspondence with her father becomes non-existent. She often acts bizarre and views every situation as being "black and white." She has a habit of saying, "Watashi, kiitenai" (essentially, I'm not listening.)
WATCHERMAN: A snitch that Shotaro uses to get information. His real name is unknown, but it seems he is a blogger, and takes pride in that fact.
JINNO MIKIO: A detective who works in solving Dopant-related crimes. His partner is Makura Shun. Mikio has known Shotaro since he was a kid, but doesn't realize that Shotaro is part of Kamen Rider W. He and Shotaro often exchange information on the Dopant crimes to help solve cases.
MAKURA SHUN: Mikio's partner and subordinate. He is pleasant enough, but has some reservations about Shotaro's abilities as a detective.
SONOZAKI RYUUBEE: Head of the Sonozaki Family, an evil crime family that has a large control over the city of Fuuto. Sells different Gaia Memories to men, transforming them into monsters. He happens to be a man who has aged rather gracefully, and has a front running a museum.
SONOZAKI SAEKO: Member of the Sonozaki Family. The president of a rising IT company.
SONOZAKI WAKANA: Member of the Sonozaki Family. College Talent who has her own radio show.
MIKU: Sonozaki Family's cat.
SUDOU KIRIHIKO: The Sonozaki Family's salesman of Gaia Memories to different criminals. He is their highest grossing salesman, and is engaged to Saeko.
When Philip sets the Cyclone Gaia Memory into his Double Driver, and Shotaro sets his Joker Gaia Memory into his Double Driver, their souls and bodies fuse producing Kamen Rider W (Cyclone Joker).
Cyclone Joker is W's base form, accomplished by this "Double Henshin." It is W's most balanced form, but does not have any weaponry. Instead, he is known as the "Subayai Waza no Senshi" (Quick Technique Warrior), as the Cyclone Memory allows him to carry out attacks with blinding speed, as quickly as the wind. Different Gaia Memories can be swapped out for either side, allowing W to achieved different forms.
The CYCLONE SIDE is known as the "Senpuu no Migi Hanshin" (Whirlwind of the Body's Right Side). It's powers are speed based, and it increases the natural speed of the other "Soul Side" of the body, to its utmost ability.
The JOKER SIDE is known as the "Kirifuda no Hidari Hanshin" (Trump Card of the Body's Left Side). Joker Side is mostly used as a finishing technique, as its grappling power is incredible, increasing the other sides' attack by about 6 times, and also allowing for W to perform an amazing kick.
CYCLONE JOKER STATS:

Speed- 100 meters in 5.2 seconds
Finishing Move- "Joker Extreme", which is a kick with a force of 12 t of destructive power
When Philip sets the Heat Gaia Memory into his Double Driver, and Shotaro sets his Metal Gaia Memory into his Double Driver, their souls and bodies fuse producing Kamen Rider W (Heat Metal). In this form, he is known as the "Netsuki Kairiki Senshi." (Hot Super Human Strength Soldier) His weapon is the "Metal Shaft", a hard-hitting bo staff weapon that can only be used when "Metal" is activated. He is second-most balanced form, next to Cyclone Joker.
The HEAT SIDE is known as the "Netsuki no Migi Hanshin" (Heat of the Body's Right Side). Heat is summoned up from the Heat Memory, which contains the "Netsu no Kioku." It's powers "Heat Up" W, increasing his fighting ability several times, which in turn, amplifies the abilities of the opposite side.
The METAL SIDE is known as the "Toushi no Hidari Hanshin" (Warrior of the Body's Left Side). Metal is summoned up from the Metal Memory, which contains the "Koutetsu no Kioku." It's powers increase the muscular structure of W, giving him a body of steel, and terrific physical power and fighting skills.
