Hi. I am basically a noob in this console buying. May I know what is the difference between modded and unmodded? can unmodded ones play homebrew games?

An unmodded console is only able to play games specific to its region of origin. USA consoles are marked NTSC/UC, Japan is NTSC/J, UK is PAL, etc etc etc

Modifying a console defeat these region locks, and additionally allows the Wii to run home coded programs and illegal copies of commercial games (that somehow gives people here throat irritation)

Modifications to a console are generally sensitive topics here because of that last ability. Please exercise caution with this topic.

From what i know is unmodded cant play "ahem" games and modded wii can play it..

Please buy unmodded console because you can update firmware without worry bricking it.

i needed to know about the homebrew thing because i'm trying to learn how to create games for it using virtools... haih... if so maa fan then shall go to faculty and bug them to get one to spoil it.

unmodded can also use homebrew but if update to latest firmware(3.4),it will block homebrew.

I heard Freeloader Wii no longer works, can someone confirm this?

I can't since I don't want to update the firmware after the news broke out. So Wii games = old games only for me
