I'm now finishing up on Generation Kill. This is such a great book because it's eye opening. Evan Wright, authored this book based on his experience while embedded with the US Marines 1st Recon unit, which spearheaded the initial invasion of Iraq known to us as Operation Iraqi Freedom. In this book, Wright talks about his journey to Baghdad with the unit, covering many aspects of the war itself, the suffering, bad decisions and the distrust of unit commanders, and the irony of surviving mission after mission due to sheer incompetence of their superiors.
HBO has made a 7 part tv series based on this book, which I bought too and I can't wait to check it out.
