Joanne "Jo" Rowling OBE[1] (born 31 July 1965), who writes under the pen name J. K. Rowling, is a British author, best known as the creator of the Harry Potter fantasy series, the idea for which was conceived whilst on a train trip from Manchester to London in 1990. The Potter books have gained worldwide attention, won multiple awards, and sold more than 400 million copies.

Rowling had mentioned that she is not planning to write an 8th Harry Potter book for another 10 years laugh.gif
But as it is, fans are able to look forward to the encyclopedia of Harry Potter's wizarding world consisting of various unpublished material and notes thumbup.gif

Not to mention that we'll also be able to read new stories from here on after biggrin.gif

I am planning to introduce Harry Potter to my daughter, as soon as she's interested in reading thicker books. Right now she's into colouring books, so I've a few more years ahead of me to prepare for the day I hand her my dog-eared Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone. Woohoo!!

Still remember I got my 1st HP novel from my aunt for my birthday in my primary school. That's the time where I started to read novels haha. I even pre-ordered the last book from overseas, and heck it arrived later than expected.

My cousin is a huge fan. Me? I just leech from her. Honest thoughts are that the earlier books are better then the last few. Perhaps the subject matter got heavier and the books got grimmer, but I felt as though Harry Potter lost his magic later on - where was the fun, wondrous books about a boy finding out about magic and friendship and love? Instead we have death, more death, and death as a cherry on top.

Yeah... the fun all turned into gloomy end. But that's what life about. We're happy when we're young, but later we're stressed by lots of stuff haha.

I hate Hermione taken by Ron..... well, at least it's better than "charming o Victor Krum" haha!

Her Harry Potter series are just as captivating as reading about her own autobiography -- she is one of the few who literally went from rags to riches, and just by writing children story books biggrin.gif

well, it's just a collection of wizarding fairy tales like the muggles have their snow white, cinderella stuff. only the stories is a bit different in a way. because each story got lesson to learn. its fun to read, i guess because its written by jkrowling, she got a great sense of humour that woman. nod.gif

yes, agree. the movies cut out a lot of stuff, and sometimes movies are just too fast to digest the story.

i prefer the books over the movies anytime. cant help myself from getting pissed when they're not getting it right in the movies. the only characters that i think are very similar to the one in the books are the weasley twins.

that is so true! laugh.gif i mean the hermione in the movie is getting more and more stylish for every movie. the real one was only in the first. and dumbledore in book is eccentric in a way thats is kinda adorable, but in the last movie he looks like he really lost his marble. shakehead.gif but yeah i'm still going to watch the movie, at the cinema no less. whistling.gif just to show some support i guess.

EXACTLY! I mean, Ginny is supposed to be pretty, right? But look at her..!! The way Hermione looks in the movie, it's no surprise most people wanted her to end up with Harry rather than with Ron...

Harry Potter is a nice read. =) Once I start reading it I got addicted to it and bring the book everywhere I go, even to school. l0lz..
The book is much better than the movie as it has more details to it but the movie is also very interesting.Hermione is getting prettier and Harry is getting more good looking..But i kinda miss the first movie series: The Sorcerer Stone as Harry Potter was just a cute little boy =p

TOPIC REVIVAL!!!

What's your favourite HP book, and why?

Mine is Azkaban -- the 3rd book. Cos that's when Sirius was introduced, and it just signifies hope in an otherwise bleak life for Harry.

Also, I love the last part of the last book.

harry potter series was something i treasured so much. I loved reading them. I still remember when the first 4 books came out few years bk, i was in primary school i think. I wasn't so rich to buy the books, so i borrowed the books from a friend and read them .My mom did not want to buy me the books because they were to expensive. But when the last book was released, i was already in uni and i could somewhat afford to buy the book. And my mom no longer nagged me for buying books rclxms.gif rclxms.gif
those were the sad days where i had to some how find a way to get hold of a book to be able to read it. I loved reading especially harry potter and well thankfully, today i'm able to finance my reading habit through my monthly pocket money and also the wages from my part time job thumbup.gif

Same here! When they first came out, I had to pujuk my mak to buy them.. She saw the illustrated, cartoonish cover, and she went like, "Why are you buying these kinds of books!" Had a hard time convincing her at first! *sigh* Those were the days! biggrin.gif

Now, even more reason to get books, since they're tax deductible!

haha this book/series is the reason i now browse the 'young adults' book section as well nowadays. Even found some other good titles as well.

And what's the problem even if it's childish? We are all children/young once and i doubt ppl forget that xD

Because a great read is still a great read tongue.gif

The biggest problem with the movies is that there is no real flow to the narrative and that they are merely a montage of 'best of' scenes.

Also, since the first movies were directed by Chris Colombus who was pretty well known for working with children and family orientated comedies. So basically in the first 2 movies where you had Harry Potter and gang mimicking Macaulay Caulkin from the home alone movies.

While the movies do get progressively darker, in line with the books, they are limited by the cast who were selected based on their cuteness in the first movie.

I find the first 2 movies much more enjoyable than the others, though they are still a little bit too short and too fast.

This is so true!
Not to mention that Harry Potter book get thicker with every new book...
The movies on the other hand, won't be able to extend their scene....
So its a totally different experience... sweat.gif
