Seems like Macsales.com now has a cheaper shipping option. The 4GB kit with shipping is USD$93.70 which works to about RM320.
If you don't do intensive work, you can save by upgrading later. I reckon the price for 4GB pairs will be falling within the next few months as more machines adopt DDR3 memory.

It seems that you guys have not encountered any issues with RAM. I've read a number of reviews on Newegg and unibody MacBook users has had some issues both with Apple and Value RAM.
I'm not sure if the issue is from the MacBooks being picky on what RAM they run on or there is a large number of defective RAM.

If that's the price for Value RAM, you might as well purchase Mac RAM from Macsales (RM320 for 2GB*2). If the RAM doesn't work on your Mac, you'll be sure to get a replacement.

QUOTE(dvlzplayground @ Oct 30 2009, 10:27 PM) im not familiar with OWC actually. what chips are they using? is it better to get 2x2gb, or 4gb+2gb? (my max is 6gb) I'm not sure what chips, but I'm quite certain its just OWC rebranded RAM. As for RAM, the 6GB combo is ridiculously priced now. Unless you absolutely need that extra 2GB, stick with 4GB. QUOTE(kimurastanley @ Oct 30 2009, 10:46 PM) http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Appl...ro/Upgrade/DDR3

Is it possible that 1 of your 2GB ram sticks is faulty? Swap your current 2GB stick in slot 2 with another 2GB stick. If it boots up fine and registers 3GB, then you have faulty stick.

Mac RAM = RAM made by 3rd party manufacturers based on Apple's memory specification. I don't know what is the exact difference compared to normal RAM.
You are right when you say there is no such thing Apple branded memory. Even the ones that ship from Apple is Samsung/Hynix branded.
