1.The original (fat) PS2 uses a simple AC power cord, whereas a slim PS2 requires an AC to DC adaptor.
2.The original can support an optional HDD (hard drive). (Note: I'm not sure if all games will support it). The slim does not support any kind of hard drive. 4.Disks are placed in a disk tray on the original model. However, disks are top-loaded and clicked-in on a slim PS2 This post has been edited by heatblast: Jan 19 2009, 09:02 PM |

I noticed that the DVD drive is stronger in the slim than the fat.
The fat can barely read my DVDs,Blue discs or my hacked Guitar Hero 2 discs. |

QUOTE(Aaron1988 @ Jan 20 2009, 05:04 PM) 1) Can I know what is the Network Adapter and Hard drive for? 1. Network Adapter is "for fat PS2 only". Attach it at the expansion bay at the back of the console. It use to connect to the internet and connecting IDE HDD to the console. Hard to find the Network Adapter nowadays. The HDD is for installing games into it. Also u can put videos, musics, pictures, *.elf (PS2's softwares) etc.*Can it be PS2 Slim + Network Adapter + HDD ? Also, I quoted a replied on some other posts which I don't really understand : 2) What is the HDadvance? Why does he said can install games into hard drive via network? 3) How many types of PS2 is there? As far as I know, there is only 2 types: slim and original (fat). But I can't recall where did I see the word PS2 9 series =.=" 2) HDAdvance is a software to run games that installed in the PS2 HDD. Another and the best software is HDLoader. USBAdvance and USBExtreme is for using USB HDD. Usually for slim PS2 and its games compatibility is low than IDE HDD. Installing game to the PS2 HDD via network is, connecting ur PS2 to the PC and put the DVD game in the PC DVD-Rom and install it from there. It need another software for it, both PS2 and PC. 3) Yes, 2 type of PS2, fat and slim. But it has several version, to differentiate from new to old. Starting with SCPH 10000 IINM. It stated at the back of the console. |

Thanks Lakum, you helped a lot.
1) Since you said it's hard to find Network Adapter now, does it mean most retailers do not sell anymore? Is it legal? 2) What is the maximum size of HDD that the Fat PS2 can support? 3) HDD is the one we use on our computer right? Is it the same one for the PS2? 4) Do I have to purchase or download the software? Is it illegal to do that? 5) I read through Wikipedia about PS2, and found that the latest hardware is "slimline PlayStation 2 (SCPH-90000)". Is it necessary to purchase such latest version? How "big" is the difference? |

QUOTE(Aaron1988 @ Jan 20 2009, 05:53 PM) Thanks Lakum, you helped a lot. 1. Its hard to find...very rare. Fat PS2 also hard to find. Not that it illegal. I think ebay still got it.1) Since you said it's hard to find Network Adapter now, does it mean most retailers do not sell anymore? How "big" is the difference? 2. Erm...i'm not sure about the maximum size. I used 80gb last time 3. Yes, very much the same with the PC HDD. If using with Network Adapter, it'll use normal IDE HDD. The software we use (HDLoader etc) let us use the unofficial PS2 HDD. I remember when FF XI released with official HDD....the price is so expensive yet the size is only 40gb if i'm not mistaken. Forgot already the price.... 4. I dont know about this. 5. Sorry..also dont know.... This post has been edited by Lakum: Jan 20 2009, 07:20 PM |
