the pad actually im putting in on the tray inside the cage, so i no need to change it daily. Mostly the time she will be in the cage as i need to work, once i come back i'll let her out a while..but at first she will pee few spot in the living room, is hard for me to train her to go pee in cage as the cage is at the kitchen. So end up i bought a pee tray wif net for her and put in living room so she no need to go kitchen..
I just want her to pee on the tray so whenever i go travel i just bring the tray not the cage...

Actually i can use the pad that i put below the cage to train her as it has all the small ady..but i found it quite smelly..haha, u know la..their pee...so i dowan it spoil the air in the living room.

And, i most of the time not at home only weekend will be more few hours so i hardly can monitor her until she pee or poo..
The 1st-4th trial is successful, she did pee on the tray, but after that miss & miss & miss or she hold the bladder..make me hard to train her..
Any solution?

Btw, im quite confusing..autumn is ur maltese or ur poodle?
*
I don't have poodle, both also maltese laugh.gif autumn is the youngest and smallest while jasmine is the opposite (slightly bigger and older tongue.gif )
I thought go travel bring pads more easier than bring the tray? xD If pad, we only need to bring few disposable pad and put at any places mah easy to move also... if tray need to put at corner or take more space.. no? rolleyes.gif

If you have more spaces, try to get at least 4pcs of playpen for her. Put the cage inside the pen and pad at any corner u like inside the pen. Like this she will have more spaces to free roam but still inside play pen range and it could help you pad trained her also since she can roam freely rather than being locked inside the cage. I never cage autumn and only confined her inside her 6pcs pen and not long ago I bought an IRIS brand of cage for them as their house, place for them to sleep. But this cage the bottom is a smooth floor not like those cage tray so I consider it as not a cage but a house =p

Anyhoo, try to go for washable pad instead of disposable if want/can. Washable pad absorb the pee and the smell better than disposable. In my case, I prefer washable since I got 2 dogs (if use disposable type, they each pee 1 time need to change d xD) and its really lessen my work load. With this I only need to change it every 2 or 3 days depends on how dirty the pad is but if use disposable I need to change at least 2 or 3 per day sweat.gif

btw, how you know she hold her bladder?

oh, so sorry both also maltese..my mistake coz is one short & 1 long hair that makes me confusing..

I would like to pad train her also but i notice she eat back the poo if she accidently poo outside the cage..
i got thinking to buy a playpen and let her train pee at pad but i duno what will happen while im not at home.if she in the cage, at least she cant do anything. Actually the tray inside is pad..just got net on top so her leg wont wet..those washable also can fit..but a bit smelly even after wash so i didnt use it...i feel dirty ma...

Everytime i free her from cage she will find some place to pee, thats y the 1st-4th successful pee on tray but once mistake she was scold by me then i tell her to pee on tray..the next time she out she didnt pee at all (thats hard for me to train her) until she back into the cage..
i thought wan buy the training spray to train her..most of my fren say is effective..weebo very shy girl and fast learner..i never scold her that hard maybe this is the reason she scare to pee when coming out from cage..me bad..
i also agreed with u regarding pad more convinience while travelling..now more headache...dont know what to do tim..
*
Maybe the picture you saw is and old picture? Last time Jasmine had poodle cut tongue.gif but now both are growing long coat, will update their new picture after shower later biggrin.gif

You use hand or washing machine to wash the washable pad? I washed by hands but sometimes use washing machines if I lazy xD but after wash n dry it there's no more pee or poo smell on the pad... If you washed already but still have smell means you washed not thoroughly smile.gif As for training spray, I have no comment cuz I never use it before, if your friend said its effective maybe you can try to use it to train weeboo?

QUOTE(deathbringer @ Jul 15 2011, 11:28 AM)
when ur dog is out of her cage, does she purposely go back to her cage to pee and poo or do u have to put her into the cage yourself?

my snowy is the other way round. she rarely pees or poos in the cage unless she cannot tahan anymore (i.e. i come back very late from work). she only pees and poos on the pad. if she's in another location and there's no pad available, she doesn't pee or poo at all until i place a pad on the floor. i work from 9am till 6pm, but mostly only reach home around 8pm. her cage is clean most of the time every time i come back...but once i let her out, she runs straight to the pad and lets her bladder go. (loads of pee, at least 10 seconds on the pad). i'm worried that this is unhealthy for her. i've never scolded her when she pees or poos in cage...so dunno why she dun like to do those in her cage.

i also find that my dog's some sort of a clean freak. if there are previous pee or poo stains on the pad. she will avoid it and do it on another part of the pad...sometimes until near the edge of the pad until some of the pee leaks out onto the floor. so i'm going through my pads quite fast (at least once a day)
*
There's nothing wrong Snowy smile.gif She hold her bladder and never make any mess inside her cage is because she know its her 'home' and she doesn't want to dirty it. Snowy behave similarly with autumn, as autumn will never pee in the cage that I bought for her even when I locked her inside when I'm out and scared she climb out from her pen. She will wait till I came back and let her out only she did her business on her pad. If I bring her out for a nite stay and she couldn't find her pad, she will hold her bladder until she cannot tahan d only cries for help to me but sometimes when I'm too busy or distracted I might not get her meaning (cuz she cries/whine too much even there's nothing xD) then she will pee in front of me letting me know she couldnt hold on any longer LOL

Even when she's at home and the pad are dirty, she will pee at the corner or spot that is still clean but hold one of her leg to make sure she doesn't step on any pee or poo laugh.gif at first I thought why she pee like male dog but after few cases I finally realize that she did that to prevent her to step on the pee or poo

oh, i wash with hand. i got put dettol to soak it then i brush it then i soak it in a pail of water with dettol then i rinse it through then hang outside to dry..but the smell still there..i think is like puppy smell..

I'll try on the training spray.

Thats y i want her to pee & poo on the tray, it wont make her paw dirty eventhough step on the previous pee place. if poo then i can straight away pick it up-hope she cant stop eating poo....
*
Ohh... I never use Dettol to wash. Most of the time I will soak the pad into a pail of water for a while then take out use use detergent to brush it off both side (top n bottom) then soak it again into water and rinse thoroughly then dry it off. Never got any pee smell left but mostly is detergent smell xD

You could try the training spray thou, if its work well it would be good for both of you biggrin.gif

as for eating poo, there's many reason that could intrigue the behavior, some said its because of the food they ate that make it hard to digest and when they poo, instead of poo smell sometimes they can still smell the food smell and thought it was their food thus they ate it back. Other sources said that when they're left too long they will feel bored and nothing to do thus the poo eating behavior come to them. What food you're feeding her now? it she still eating her poo maybe you want to consider changing her diet to other brands? Sometimes changing brand doesn't mean ur dog will stop eating her poo 100% but it 'might' help in some cases thou smile.gif

I try to use detergent..maybe it will make the smell gone...

Im feeding her science plan, maybe i'll change it later as it almost finish.i found it not so good. now im not sure she still eating her poo or not coz she didnt poo when she is outside the cage..hopefully no..  rclxm9.gif
Got any suggestion which brand better?and can reduce bad breath? I got ask the vet coz weebo mouth got bit smelly, but the doctor said is puppy smell and is normal..like all dogs..weebo start like to kiss me, but i ignore her bcoz of the smell.. tongue.gif
*
Cant recommend much cuz sometimes it does great for my kids but not for others, but I can tell you good brands that is recommended by others and those that I've personally tried myself are Go! (good and expensive but no small bites), artemis small breed puppy/adult (price n result are okay with me but heard that its going to stop production soon), fish4dogs (promo pack cheaper than individual pack, so far so good). Others brands from uk or us called 'wellness' also have many good n bad feedback but I never tried it personally. Currently I'm still feeding them mixture of artemis n fish4dogs and once it finish I'm gonna switch back to usual feeding morning kibble nite barf. Today went plc ikano bought the promo pack 2 cod fish and 2 salmon small bites for them to stock up in-case I no more barf or no time to feed them smile.gif Now I'm searching for Royal Canin Maltese 24 but no luck up to now and heard from my friend 3 more months only got stock come in to my hometown so now I'm slowly wait for it smile.gif

As for bad breath, you can either give her some raw hide to chew or start to brush her teeth at least 2-3 times a week. Last time I forgot to brush her teeth so now she doesnt like if i open her mouth to brush but sometimes I will use wet towel to brush it lightly thou most of the time I gave them raw hide to chew them self tongue.gif

Charlie cut short because hair last time tangle edy. Been cut by myself until short lol. Beside that, charlie last 2 days go to vet because butt fur too tick. Poo cannot come out n infection -.-". Anyway, he look nice, cute and like boy boy lol..

Lola hair i keep long.

Added on July 16, 2011, 4:31 pmQuite dissapointed with pets icon. No different before and after full grooming and yet charge me 120. -.- leg fur got cut abit but not straight. Totally exactly the same. Talk so proud like they own the world...Quite dulan nw. They do normal grooming but charge me full grooming price. If they charge me normal grooming + abit other charges i still accept. Feel like been scam.
*
You do basic or full groom? I mean both do full groom and they charge you RM 120 per dog? or RM 120 for both?
I long time never went to pets icon d, currently went to doggie doge near my house, nice service and cheaper price too biggrin.gif
I realize groomers will let their students to handle our dogs and only help to 'safe' them when our dogs looks......... this is y I keep the coat long and only send for basic or full groom when I want to trim some and to make sure they doesn't let NEW student to handle my dogs, old students or those with experiences is okay with me as long as my dog doesnt turn into

Just bring Bubbles for her 3rd jab. I'm now thinking where to send her for grooming. Somewhere near and not that bad type.  hmm.gif
*
Your pita pata too many la xD
I'm now scared to try new groomers ever since autumn has a bad experience with new groomers and I don't even know who and where they're located.
She is now scared of water and hate grooming and bite me once just few days she came back from grooming while I groomed her face. Until now she will scream/shout whenever it's shower time sad.gif

If I know who the person groomed her last time sure gonna complaint and banned it from my grooming list -.-""
Now I bring them to Doggie Doge SS 15, so far so good bring Jasmine for both basic n full groom and satisfy with their job while autumn went there once for basic only and she came back crying for help whenever she saw groomers.. But I like this groomer, cheap and ok for me icon_rolleyes.gif

I wanted to put all dogs, but limited space, hehe. How much Doggy Doge charge for maltese like Autumn? I wanna keep Bubbles hair long, just want to trim and re-shape her fur only.
*
They charge both A&J with same price. RM 40 for basic and RM 60 for full groom icon_rolleyes.gif
Not sure if they use any treatment but whenever I sent them for grooming, the smell with stay put for a week or more and the coat looks so white for weeks even when I shower them when its more than a week after grooming. I'm keeping autumn hair long cuz her coat now is very smooth and silky and nicer compare to her previous coat. Hopefully this time I success in keeping her coat long >< but thinking to trim the fur under her mouth and of course keep her top knot. While for Jasmine I rclxub.gif her coat now is really nice and silky type and I want to keep the coat long but trim the face only since she doesn't like to tie hair butttttt her coat is too thick and its really took much time just to dry it off... now I'm thinking if I should keep her in short cut or long coat... if only I have those dryer like those groomers use maybe I know what I want to choose lol

Weebo now 850g only for 4 mths..i want her to be mini but she seem eating lot and in few weeks time already gain 100g from previous weight 750g. Keeping her healthy & small size below 1.5kg. Btw, how many months they stop growing 6 or 9 months?
*
Oh no... please don't starve/limit her food intake just because you want her to be mini ><
Puppies need to eat more because they still puppy and they need all those protein for their growth. If you limit their food intake, yes she will looks mini BUT she might not look so healthy or maybe you could feel her looks skinny if you try to limit her into 1.5kg while she's supposed to weight around 2kg+ (just for example) and honestly, the smaller the dog is its really hard to take care.

Autumn supposed to weight 1.6 -1.8kg and she's one big eater. For her case I did limit her food intake since puppy (I feed hear barf) because no matter how much I gave her she will still continue to eat nonstop and this is not good either. Since I fed her barf I limit her food intake by calculating 3-4% from her current weight and when she turn adult I realize her her proportional weight is less than 2kg. But now she's more than 2 kg as I started feeding her kibbles due to no time to make barf for her and I thought want to pump her to became 2kg but instead she became too fat now laugh.gif

Anyho, please dont limit her food intake and feed too much also not a good idea. You should try to give her as much as you think it would do good to your puppy smile.gif

i am currently feeding my Snowy Royal Canin Mini Junior 33 and she is alright with it. b4 that, she was eating Natural Balance Ultra Premium Small Breed Bites. she is on royal canin for more than a month already. now i have gotten her Orijen Puppy and she does not even want to touch it....not even when i mix it with her usual royal canin. worse now is she doesn't even want to touch her royal canin food again. for the past few days, she only eats her food (royal canin) when i am looking at her eating.

how to solve this problem??

p/s: the reason we changed her food is coz me and my wife read not-so-good things about royal canin. we should have just stuck with Natural Balance instead.
*
Actually I believe RC is not bad but dunno why in Malaysia people seems to call it 'not-so-good' brand wink.gif
My friends at hometown most of them feed their kids with RC for certain breeds, i.e shih tzu, pom etc. I'm now actually looking for Royal Canin Maltese 34. I've read so many feedback about it for maltese but cant seem to find it here...

@Wishan~~~~ have you asked your supplier bout RC?

Muchan, from the list they give me, no Maltese 34 listed, only Shih Tzu etc. On my opinion, u can try to get RC Maltese 34 from Singapore, maltese is very popular there compared to Malaysia.
*
If I go Singapore buy RC very expensive xD Need to count the expense+++ laugh.gif Maybe I continue my current food first hehe

QUOTE(deathbringer @ Jul 21 2011, 01:52 AM)
i've asked several pet stores as well as  searched the internet and most say that RC is not that bad, but it's not healthy either. in fact, RC is kind of "addictive" to the dog as there are many ingredients in them such as corn, beet pulp and other grains that could harm your dog (e.g. allergies, etc.). i noticed my Snowy scratching herself more often after going on RC. it was much better when she was on NB. also, do u notice that RC has "specialised" food for different breeds, like RC for Shi Tzu, Chihuahua, Yorkshire Terrier and even Maltese? but a search through the internet suggest that these foods are no different from each other in terms of ingredients. it's just to fool owners like us into thinking that those dog foods are specially made for that specific breed of dog that we have. also, the smell and taste of RC is very strong and most dogs tend not to eat any other brands of food once they start on RC. that's why my Snowy is totally addicted to it and she doesn't even touch anything else...not even her old NB. that's how RC manages to get away with charging expensive prices for their food...coz the owners have no choice but to continue with RC coz their dogs like it. (that's what a few pet stores did tell me, even when they have RC on their store shelves for sale).

now i've started weaning her off RC and putting her back on NB Ultra Premium formula (cheaper than RC). she's resisting it but slowly eating coz she's hungry and has no other choice. then maybe after that i'll put her on grain-free Orijen instead or NB L.I.D. (both also cheaper than RC)
*
What RC you're feeding them? If not mistaken beet pulp one of this ingredient that cause tear stain unsure.gif
I've never personally fed RC to my dog before, but most of my friend did fed RC to their dogs and so far so good from their feedback. I got a friend who fed RC Maltese to her maltese since puppy but when she moved to penang, she couldn't find any RC for her maltese. Other reason she chose RC is because of its small size because her 2nd maltese is too small and RC do good with its small size kibbles. I did search for some feedback online and it seems that some said it do good for its shinning and silky coat so I'm thinking to try 1 pack if I can get it myself. Maybe I'll try it myself to see the result smile.gif If its do good on my malts might continue or if its doesnt then I switch back to my current food smile.gif

@loong1111 : Nope, I seldom fed kibbles so only tried few brands only tongue.gif

@tjaime1984 : Never tried all those brands also xD The one that I tried before and did great for my kids is what I'd mention before smile.gif

Kinzonu had some puppies at the moment if not mistaken. You could try to contact him and maybe can go view the pups your self if you really interested. His price depends on the quality of the pups and he too imported his malt from Taiwan. You contact both and see which you interested with smile.gif

To all Maltese owners, is it true that if the Maltese's coat is shaved once, the new coat will be nicer...? My Maltese is 5 months old and the groomer keep asking me to shave all to bald.
*
It might true if you're talking about poodle breed but in my experience never ever SHAVE bald a maltese coat! Due to some accident 1 of my malt got shaved and her new coat is not straight as before. In fact, after shaved her coat became so curly and a bit rough.... then few months back I shaved her again due to skin problem (which I don't want to shave at first but since the coat is getting...... due to the 1st incident I decided to shave it again to see if there's any different from the previous shaved) and I start giving her skin and coat supplement to see if I can save her coat. Now the new coat is not as rough as before but still very curly. So my advice is, if you want to cut it short just cut it short enough as puppy cut but don't shaved it bald.

Same like autumn last time laugh.gif
now got improvement d... everytime I wanna pluck her ear fur I will prepare some treats for her xD so far the result is good. I did the same thing when I shower her also since she became scared of water and will shout nonstop whole time until I finish shower her n so noisy doh.gif with treats now she do fine also hahah I guess treats is essential to train autumn LOL

actually I seldom gave them treats already but due to autumn's case I try to find good treats and the treats I'm using right now is the Healthy Omega Treats made from duck meat layered with cod fish & sweet potato. The treats came in square size so I cut it into small pieces, when its shower time and if she tries to shout I just gave her 1 pieces if no shout I dont give lo.

Ya, give while bathing her, not messy la since the treats in a meat-alike form smile.gif. If you want, try get the healthy treats cuz if they ate much also no problem but normal treats I scared later ate treats too much dun want eat their own food liao. So far my kids no problem and I always try to look for those healthy treats haha

as for Bubble, when you got the treats ready, you try to touch her ear see if she have the same reaction as when you flip the ear. Whether it has or no reaction when you just touching the ear you gave her some treats to let her think that touching ears =treats. Then only you start flipping it slowly + give treats or while she was eating the treats you could flip her ear slowly see if she have the same reaction or not.

Hopefully it can help. Last time I really cannot touch autumn's hear at all. Once I success in flipping her ear, she will struggle struggle and struggle until I tired. Clipping nails also a big problem with her last time, until I need to hold her to not struggling and Ying help me cut her nails but even when the nail cutter havent touch her nails she already shout so loud LOL so I guess anything that I need to know to handle a 'problematic' dog I learn all from my girl laugh.gif

Still dont dare to bring weebo out from the house scared of ticks & disease...i dowan her to be unhealthy..

You can bring her out actually if you found those pet friendly places... But for me, I love to bring them out if I can but I will prevent them to step on the grass area to prevent any ticks. Normally I will spray frontline to their coat before bring them out like in public like park, and shower them after come back and spray another front line for prevention hmm.gif

Muchan, then when u wana plug her ear hair, how to give treats since all hair occupied? I dont feed treats coz i feel they are all junk food with a lot of flavoring.

tjaime1984, I did thought of letting the groomer do the plucking ear hair, but if i myself cannot handle her, she sure wont let other stranger handle her. So I thought after she's used to letting me pluck, only send to groomer. As for cutting nails, she sit still and let me cut. Never once bleed before so far for 5 months.  biggrin.gif *touch wood*
*
Actually if she doesn't let you pluck her ear fur sending her to grooming is a good choice I think. Last time I also sent her to grooming whenever its time to pluck her ear fur and she came back find. I guess groomers sure have their own way to make the dogs allow them to touch their sensitive area. Only starting from last year I seldom sent my girls to grooming esp autumn and Jasmine only sent for full groom few months time when I think her coat is too long for me to handle.

As for treats, even if I dont want to give them treats I have no choice. With treats I can train autumn to let/allow me to touch all her sensitive part. Thats y I go for those healthy treats since no matter what I need treats to lure autumn. But sometimes I will boiled chicken meat as treats biggrin.gif maybe you could substitute it with chicken meat instead of treats.

What you mean "since all hair occupied"? or you mean 'hand' occupied? What I did is after I pluck one time I gave her treats to calm her down and second then third. If she no longer move around and let me pluck I just continue plucking the ear hair until she throw her tantrum again only gave her the treats smile.gif

Muchan, i dont like the frontline spray smell so i didnt buy it until now, hoepfully there is no tick on weebo...now she still very small, dont think will bring her out also coz hse even cant stand properly when im driving.

I dont dare to pluck her ear hair as i also cant manage to get her nail's clip..so no need to susah susah struggle with her then sent her from grooming better. I get to know that after weebo being groom and back home..she seem very guai, izzit bcoz i leave her there and somebody else handle her...hahaha..i like how she act when she come back..tongue.gif

I dont think anyone will like the 'strong chemical' smell LOL I too dont like the smell but if its for their own good its okay with me since I'm not going to smell it every day. I used to apply frontline spot on for them before bring them out to the park but the price is much more expensive compare to the spray type. So what I did is I only spray frontline to their body when I bring them out to the park and shower them when I came back. I always shower them if I let them out for a walk on the park so the smell doesnt bother me much since they're going to shower anyway smile.gif

In my case, since I know how to do all the basic stuff why need to send them go grooming? laugh.gif If can did myself I can save cost n money + I can learn my own experience. I'll start to groom Jasmine my self soon once I get my scissors hihihi

Thanks for the advice. I don't think I want to shave him bald. I don't know why the groomer keep on insisting...! >_<

I'm not sure why but I did heard some groomers are telling their customer to shave bald the dog either poodle or maltese owner and I found it funny when I listened to them. Reason being, I had this groomers which I often went to ever since I got autumn and the owner never ask me to shave the coat. She even asked me twice to make sure I'm not going to regret cutting the coat short when my malt was having long coat last time. She always objected when I want to shave bald my maltese when I thought the idea of new growing coat might be better than the current 1 and I really appreciate her thou I did shaved my malt but due to skin prob. If not I wont shave her at all wink.gif
