Source: Daily Star - http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/65955...1m-in-a-night-/" A PREMIER League football star broke down in tears after blowing £1million at a casino in one night.
Gamblers were stunned when the player – a household name – sobbed after frittering away the cash in an amazing run of bad luck.
The multi-millionaire star, a regular in his national team, had been drinking before hitting the roulette and poker tables.
As the losses piled up, he looked sick and wailed: “What have I done? My mum can’t know about this.” " Who? - Owen ?(not a regular england player) - Rooney ? (could he be that stupid ?) - Gerard? (absent from one England game?) - Bridge? -CR ? (is thats why he crashed his Ferrari?) - your guess ? This footballer obviously is a degenerate gambler. fully addicted or lack discipline and willpower to quit oris it the clubs fault for piling tons of quids (£1## ,000) every week on him. What does he do with all this money? What does it say about Pro Footballers (especially EPL) in general. This post has been edited by niuchin: Jan 17 2009, 03:25 AM

And what does that say about EPL clubs (see my thread on Manchester City) going on a buying binge.
This reinforced all the Cassandras outcries.

My bet on Rooney. He got the problem since he was playing in everton.
I rule out Owen, because he is the 2nd richest english player, ranked after david beckham, and reported he got a lot property.

Rooney and Owen were "indebted" to bookies before, with Rooney close to his momma. Added on January 17, 2009, 8:53 amQUOTE(aladdin @ Jan 17 2009, 08:46 AM) My bet on Rooney. Remember rooney had alledged £700K debt with bookie wipeout Added on January 17, 2009, 9:13 amBesides Roo, could the following England players John Terry, Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand? They were also alledgely involved previously with Stephen Smith, a business associate of Rooney's one time England striking partner, Michael Owen. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-...out-474376.htmlThis post has been edited by niuchin: Jan 17 2009, 09:28 AM

I've seen Terry and Fabregas cry as well. Does that make them contenders?

Im trying to imagine Gallas here ... But I really doubt it will be any top BPL players, wage + ads fees must be more than enough to cry over 1 million loss. Btw, the link is either old or removed by the paper website...

Wayne Rooney's wife Colleen McLoughlin today confirmed that her brother had been arrested in connection with the same assault in a Southport nightclub that had seen Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard end up briefly behind bars.
The England midfielder will face charges of assault and affray at court in Liverpool later this month, and yesterday another man, reported as being aged 19 and from the Huyton area of Liverpool, was taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Today a spokesman confirmed on behalf of Coleen, the wife of Gerrard's England team-mate, Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, that Antony McLoughlin had been arrested.
"All we can say is to confirm he was arrested and confirm he was released without charge," a statement read.
"There will be no other comment from Coleen, Wayne or Coleen's family."
Merseyside police stated that McLoughlin had been released pending further enquiries. His father, Mr Tony McLoughlin, 49, told the Daily Mirror his son had "not done anything."
Part-time DJ Marcus McGee allegedly lost a tooth and suffered a cut face as a result of the brawl, which took place as Gerrard and his friends were celebrating Liverpool's 5-1 thrashing of Newcastle United over Christmas.
Gerrard will appear in North Sefton Magistrates' Court on January 23, along with two other men, to face charges of assault and affray, and could face a jail term if convicted.
