Shld have gone back there to give them a piece of your mind! Really unacceptable standards. After servicing, the phone should be at least like before if not better condition, not create another problem or get it dirtier! Its like taking your car for oil change but the mechanic leaves dirt inside your carberateur or something!
*
To be honest, I bought this phone knowing full well what are the problems that may potentially be there. So I don't really want to get myself worked up over such a small thing even though as you know, we as a consumer have the full right to do so.....I get sick of arguing sometimes after all it is my job to do so. wink.gif

Anyway, small matter, solved it in less than 5 minutes (although opening up the case is a bit tricky but not difficult). Taking it back requires more effort, more waiting and more frustration. The society will improve if there are complaints but then I really can't be bothered.

Live and let live they say. biggrin.gif

Added on January 21, 2009, 12:57 pmoh, if it was a car repair situation, you are right to say its similar but then one is fatal the other is just a small annoyance.....

Couldn't agree more. Nevertheless, it just goes to illustrate that the service levels in Malaysia for this sort of things have a long way to go to match those in developed countries. My 5800 came back after "replacing" the earpiece with a little indentation in the casing where I think they pried it open, didn't notice it until a couple days ago. After the initial WTF moment, I figured heck with it, there are better things to do than waste time on people that won't change.

now or after cny still same batch. if u really want the set probably without earpiece problem, maybe need to wait around 2~3mths from now.
ive used mine for 2weeks, no regret at all. even tho i need to repair the earpiece by myself. (DIY method rocks jor!)

Some things i can let it slide, like the slight damage to my SP... but some things just irritate the hell out of me.... like fingerprint smudges under the screen! They are supposed to be the pros, man! My principle is: why should i do it myself? If its their fault, they should clean it up to my satisfaction. And if I do it myself, what if I screw it up and end up getting more shit under the screen or damage the casing (if mis-cue)? Then no one to blame but myself. On top of that, I am not sure if the smudge is on the back of the LCD cover or on the LCD itself. I dun wanna mess around wiping the LCD itself. What if I end up scratching it? But if they screw it up, I can demand that they do it again and again until I am satisfied without additional effort from myself (except the complaining part!). And if a part of the phone is damaged due to their fault, I would ask for a replacement part.

Our malaysian service culture is like that wan sometimes... if u dun f*** them, they just buat dunno. of course there are great service providers like the Sony Ericsson service centre over at Amcorp mall (Ericserve)... those guys are the best man!

@jpaq
Wow..sorry to hear what happen..I gotta agree with jpaq here..I'm working in a service line as well..gotta be professional abit ler..if I was the technician there and if I have to touch the screen to do something..I'd definitely tell the owner..not just quietly return back sweat.gif

and yeah..like what chris2k is asking..how's the service in Sunway?Heading there in a moment

Not all 5800s have the earpiece problem, it is one of the most frequent problems that users have faced but something that's easily fixed. At the end of the day you have to decide yourself whether you can live with an imperfect product or not. If you are very fussy, then I think you'd have to wait a little while longer until Nokia sorts out their quality issues and God only knows when that'll be. However, if you read our thread here and are a fully aware purchaser, you still will be able to get great enjoyment from the 5800 even with all its faults. I bought the 5800 knowing fully that its not perfect but haven't regretted my decision at all - the 5800 is value for money and it ROCKS! thumbup.gif

Ok, as promised I'll write a tutorial for Super converter

First thing first, I need to clarify that Super converter is not the best of the best of all converter there is out there. This is just one of the alternative that I think suits me best because I own a PSP, MP4, K850i and 5800 (latest) and it's a hassle having so many different converter for so many apps when I can just have 1 for all of them.

Pros;
All in one : Practically able to convert any file (unless if there's is a file type that I have not tried)
Customization : Convert any file with any settings you desire
Quality : It maintains the quality of the file you convert with the correct settings

Cons;
Takes a long time for large files
Have to try a few settings before getting the right one
Different computers give different output files depending on the codes you have in the computer

Before Starting

1) Click on this link to download Super Converter at the bottom of the page ---> Super™

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

2) Do all the necessary installations as needed and also an important note for Vista users, before you start the converter you need to right click an select "Run As Administrator" --> "Allow" in order to use this converter.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

After launching Super Converter

3) You'll notice that there's a lot of settings and also preset settings that is available in it. However what we are trying to do is to customize the settings for our tube.

4) To do so you need this settings:

Video
i) Output Container = MP4
ii) Output Video Codec = Mpeg - 4
iii) Output Audio Codec = AAC
iv) Video Scale Size = 640:368 (In case you can't find it, there's a "More" box beside the Video Scale title. Click on it to find it)
v) Aspect = 16:9
vi) Frame/sec = 25
vii) Bitrate = 1200

Audio
i) Sampling Freq = 44100
ii) Channels = 2
iii) Bitrate = 128

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

5) Save the settings so that you don't have to configure them anymore next time. To save, Right Click --> Export (Save) a Super? "Settings Profile"

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

To convert

6) Right click and choose "Multimedia Files", browse the files you want and then place it in.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

7)Finally, just press the "Encode Active Files" and wait for the file to be converted. The file will appear under the Output folder of your designated Super Converter folder

Finally done... phew... anyway I have not fully tested all the settings yet so there's still room for improvement.. tell me if there's any mistake in my guide and I'll have it rectified.
Thanks

Ps: all the settings above are just what I would call the "Normal" settings. It's best to play around and choose the best settings for your phone because I also notice that some files tend to be larger after conversion.

Well said. I agree that there are great service providers in Malaysia too, like in my personal case the Moto shop at KLCC, great service although they don't do repairs on the spot there. Sent my Moto Rokr S9 3 - 4 times and always service with a smile. Kuddos to them. Sad fact is that the bad ones outnumber the good many times.

I would recommend setting the resolution to 640x360 instead. no point encoding to bigger res than the screen is. Just click the "More" box.

For audio bitrate, for aac audio, 112 will be good enough for video if you're tight for space.

Ya, absolutely agree. I will do the same in restaurants as I rate service in a restaurant second to how the food taste.
