Hi all,
Anyone can share the working environment in Mimos, and what are the benefits they provided?
I'm thinking applying on Mimos.
Thanks,
Eric

I heard some rumors about MIMOS, are they going through some special management turnover or engineer turnover?
Anybody can share the insider story for those going for job interviews? |

mimos as a company is not very healthy. It is being played around by government (the controlling party) mostly for "some reason". I have my sources. But don't quote me.
If you only want to work there, the environment is very relax. Really not much pressure just like working in any other government sector. Grading and bonus all based on goverment standard issue. Should also be quite stable because controlling party need mimos/jaring to still be running for whatever reason, you know lah. |

QUOTE(abubin @ Jan 19 2009, 03:05 PM) mimos as a company is not very healthy. It is being played around by government (the controlling party) mostly for "some reason". I have my sources. But don't quote me. As an ex-mimossian, i have to correct the statement about the environment. It depends on which department you landed and also your post (programmer/researcher?). As a researcher, you are sandwiched between academics and programming, meaning you have to be quite fairly skilled at both, which can be quite a big issue for people who lack programming skills. Not to mention you have to produce patents. When I was there 2 years ago, there was quite a great deal of atention on CMMI and Six Sigma. If you only want to work there, the environment is very relax. Really not much pressure just like working in any other government sector. Grading and bonus all based on goverment standard issue. Should also be quite stable because controlling party need mimos/jaring to still be running for whatever reason, you know lah. However, the benefits are quite awesome, in context of today's economy. it is a non-profitable company....what this means is, you don't need to meet targets of sales and services to have company stay afloat.
when you have such fundings... you can only hope it will not run dry suddenly or overnight. the reason for CMMI is partly because there are business consultation markets on them. ( eg: DHL, Shell, HSBC... ) this is just another international recognition, but to a non-profitable company...it's worth nothing. Ask toffeemoose why left after 2 years...ahhahahaha.... There is no "bad" or "good" context over this...just how you wish to look at it. |

QUOTE(Opalian @ Mar 22 2009, 02:23 PM) Hi, I have been offered a contract for 2 yrs with MIMOS and I am an expatriate. Do you know how it is for expatriate staff? I am offered in Wireless division as a researcher. Is it safe to join MIMOS for expats in this age of recession that too me being a contract employee? Does the contracts usually get extended? |
