Hi guys,

I want to buy this phone next month to replace my N73. Actually I was aiming for 5800 XM before for its touch screen function and cheap ori price. But after a lot of thinking and a few readings, I'm not satisfy with 5800 picture quality (camera) because from my experience, phone camera is the only function that I use regularly other than music and radio (of course call in/out functions sweat.gif sweat.gif ). IMHO my N73 give better picture than 5800 so, it more to downgrade, instead of upgrade.

So now I'm planning to buy an N82 AP set because my budget is only RM1.2k. Warranty might be an issue. So, when I'm dealing with the seller, what should I check first? I means is there any common problem with this phone? Because, 5800 has earpiece issue, how about N82?

N82 in general has much lesseeeeeeeeeeeer issues that 5800 XM. It has sturdy lens cover, it's almost impossible to accidentally slide open the lens unlike N79, the battery cover is also solid as rock flex.gif

the downsides are it's lack of an LED flash, small buttons, slightly bulkier, and weaker GPS receiver (but with A-GPS, it's no longer a problem]
*
Why we need LED flash? I thought Xeon flash is enough?

I probably will not use GPS or A-GPS.

N82:
1) You can live with smaller screen (and non-touch screen) compared to N95/N95-8GB
2) You can live with candy-bar phone (not sliding or flip)
3) Small keys on keypad
4) Short battery life (0.5-2 days), depending on usage
5) Excellent camera + xenon flash, for h/p-based-camera
6) Good processor, although now is very lagging to me
7) Symbian S60v3 OS
8) Loud speaker not that loud
9) Music using headset is above average only
10) GPS to capture signal is so-so only. Once locked, no problem
11) Cannot stand on its side

Added on January 19, 2009, 2:58 pmLED is useful, if you use it as torchlight. Xenon (not intel xeon  tongue.gif ) cannot. Also, there are articles about the xenon-bulb break if N82 fall down too hard on the ground. But so far, I did not hear any particular case about it.

Wait till you play with GPS, especially if you drive or travel around  rolleyes.gif

3) Yup, I see that N82 has unique keypad. I believe not suitable for fast sms.
4) 0.5 - 2 days only? sweat.gif Alamak... sometime I travel 2-4 days and forgot my N73 changer but have no problem (normal usage with camera, no mp3). So, if only for receive/calling, how long it will last?
5) My main reason for N82.
6) When your phone start lagging (how old your phone)? How long it takes to change to camera mode?

GPS certainly will help my wife as she always lost when driving to town. sweat.gif

Ha..ha.. my mistake. Wrong typing. Xenon not Xeon.

3) Not really. Initial first week take me time to get used to it. Now, I can type fast sms, a bit faster than my previous flat keys N80. Maybe 2.56% faster  tongue.gif

4) I receive about 5 minutes talk-time calls. About 50 sms a day, each sms takes about 20-30 seconds to compose with LCD on. Total 5 minutes GPRS/3G. My phone can last 2-2.5 days.

If I use double/triple of the above, it can last 1-1.5 days only.

If play games (diamond twister) non-stop from full charge, 3-4 hours only  sweat.gif

6) My phone lags is the Messaging. Too many sms stored. Now is 3000+ in my folders, and another 3000+ in sent items.  sweat.gif

3) 2.56% shocking.gif ? How you calculate that. Ha.. ha..

4) I see, so mostly around 1-2 days. Should buy spare charger and put in my traveling bag. Because I always forgot my charger but luckily lots of people using Nokia biggrin.gif .

6) 3000+ of sms. For me, >200 already serabut. Always cleaning up to below 200.

So, if less sms stored means less lag right? I thought the whole application lag like my N73 (80% full memory).

Invisble Shield cover all phone or only the screen, Actually I dont understand how it works. I thought it just like durable plastic covering all over a hp.

I couldn't agree more. Even my old sch mobile SE T610 also will show you the SMS sender. Nokia really lack of this function.

Did you follow step by step producer?

From Nokia:
QUOTE
Installation instructions:
First, reboot your terminal.
Second, if you haven’t done it already, install the latest Nokia Internet Services Support Package into device memory.
Third, go to the "Application manager" to find and uninstall the "Nokia Contacts Service Support Package".
Fourth, install the Phonebook Extension Manager provided in the conversation installation page. Finally, install the conversation application associated with your model of Nokia S60 terminal.

I try with my N73, work perfectly. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif
