hi all i still new in lowyatt forum, seem this is real big community in malaysia, few question need to ask here:

1. I have problem encounter in my iphone 3g, just wonder anyone facing such issues. I using maxis, the bill charge me for using the connection about 0.90/kb. I realize this problem long ago, things is how to get rid of it, i already turned off all the connection attempt to connect to internet, 3g off, mail off, data fetch off, service locate off but seem there is no way to switch off GPRS and my phone keep connect to net using GRPS, turn out my bill already RM200 for only internet when i am not using that much, end up call customer service and turn off all the connection, any other better solutions? i need those services when i need it and switch off when not in use.

2. Is there any third party application can forward sms, or copy and paste function. I found lots applications out there but i need review before download scare of application crash cause my phone is not jail broken.

Thanks for all the reply

This is probably the most $$$ expensive problem most new iPhone users will encounter so it ranks #1 in this section. The EDGE connection is 'ON' by default on every iPhone. This will incur hefty charges to your phone bill if the connection is used by applications over long periods. If you actually want to use EDGE regularly though over 3G or Wi-Fi, you may want to look at signing up for unlimited data plans which you can ask your telco provider about.

Most of us don't use EDGE unless we need MMS functionality (Section 2: #??) so the fix is as follows.

a) For non jailbroken phones, enter any irrelevant text such as "nothing" or "disable" in the APN field (Settings> General> Network> Cellular Data Network> APN) to disable EDGE.

b) For jailbroken phones, you can download 'BossPrefs' or 'SBSettings' via Cydia and use those apps to disable EDGE. You can also use either of these apps to easily toggle On/Off for WiFi, SSH, 3G, etc.

Note that the EDGE (E) and GPRS (o) icons in the top-left corner of your iPhone screen will always be there whether or not EDGE is On/Off. So if you are feeling a bit antsy and just want to double check whether EDGE really is turned off, you can try loading a website in Safari or simply access your Weather application. Make sure 3G and Wi-Fi are also disabled. If an error message pops up saying there is no connection, you're safe.

If you are jailbroken, you can get enhanced SMS features such as SMS Forwarding by using the biteSMS which you can download via Cydia. It is a free app. Just make sure you select the option to 'Send SMS Messages via: Mobile Carrier' (which is your the local telco carrier you are using).

Please read this thread for more to educate oneself on iPhone. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/868281

easiest way for me to disable all forms of internet connectivity on the phone is put rubbish APN and password - then launch safari double check your connection is dead.

doesn't even need bosspref. cool2.gif

ya i have surf that thread, but did not realize the thread on the connection, hehe well then first question is answered, for second question still i not going to jail break my phone is still under warranty. I try not to download any application from other web cause it will make my phone crash since is not jail break. Only trust apple official web, but they do not offer such application, is sucky even the hidden radio capabilities been disable only need software do the 'tricks'.

Restore back the iphone will get back the warranty. From wat i noe is that there is no technician to check the iphone in singtel. Wat they do is just basic troubleshooting only. They are not authorized to repair iphone. All iphones tat is return to singtel will be sent back to US for repair and might be used as refurbished. Correct me if i wrong.

i dun mind whether is refurbished or wat. if the phone is scratchless, no light leaking, 100% working condition, then i will take it. china assembled iphone got quite a few known problem. Some use it for months then the phone problem occurs. just treat that u get a new phone if u managed to claim from singtel.

Singtel will exchange a new phone for u if ur iphone claimed as hardware problem.

i think the bosspref edge toggle setting will address ur gprs issue well.

for the sms forwarding, i would recommend iRealSMS which is far more advance than bitesms, tho u need to pay for it.

It allows u to insert contact from ur contact list for sending and make ur own template.

i've done the steps recommended in the thread (typing disable in the APN field), however I'm still connected to the net via GPRS. even though i've disabled everything i.e. wifi, 3G & EDGE.

do i have to contact my network service provider (Celcom in my case) to de-activate the GPRS connection?

thanks in advance. cheers. icon_question.gif
