When I touch the bottom right section of the touch screen just above the red button, there's a strange sound like its not made properly, almost like popping bubble wrap. Does anyone else experience this strange sound? And no, my device is not malfunctioning. That section still works but I prefer to check whether other ppl are experiencing or not. okayyy....after catching up 8 pages (today alone), I would like to report that I have tested the built in map application...
I downloaded the maps over the web (link is somewhere in this thread) for Malaysia and Australia (going there in a month)...
The GPS function works smoothly as the maps are built in...I set my mode to offline so that it won't use A-GPS...Set the thing to start up as offline too...
The 7 day trial is for those who are using A-GPS to download maps over the net from the nokia server...If not, its free...
I know this cause I didn't sign up or anything when I started using the GPS...
Cheers

QUOTE(MK84 @ Jan 13 2009, 08:12 PM) Question is, do you get turn by turn navigation ie Drive and Walk without subscribtion. To view the map is free IIRC. haven't tested both yet...heh...i think it should as long as the address is roughly there...just don't expect updates on traffic info...that one needs an internet connection...

QUOTE(davidmak @ Jan 13 2009, 10:24 PM) Google maps can work on Nokia 5800. I have been using it and everything works including the soft keys. However, it will crash when searching for an address sometimes. Still it works pretty well with streetview (not any good in Malaysia anyway). do u know how to get complete maps of places? cause if wanna use the GPS function, can't exactly afford to dl a new tile every time... and yes, i've tried googling=)

I just trying to tell you that it happen tat way, not a stupid question.. or stupid answer then its not a bug...that's just your own stupidity =)

QUOTE(terry007 @ Jan 14 2009, 12:00 AM) haihz.. yesterday 1st day buying then 2day just sended to zitron center to change ear piece.. now already solve the problem.. and 1 more thing is y video on 5800 is so weak? anyone face this problem? also camera. certain place very blur certain ok.. so weak? care to elaborate? the camera depends on lighting like normal cameras...so if it is dark, it will have to increase the light sensitivity to brighten the photo...unfortunately, this causes the photo to be noisy thus "very blur"...did that answer ur question? Added on January 14, 2009, 12:04 amQUOTE(kennyboy @ Jan 14 2009, 12:03 AM) It is NOT A BUG. It is how it is supposed to work. QUOTE(feimeng @ Jan 14 2009, 12:48 AM) ok in this situation, we can say that's a bug if it's the the physical call key because i myself has never encouter any phone can't answer to calls becauce of locked keypad keypad lock does not affect the answer key when there has incoming call. but if talking abt virtual button on screen, of course you can't press it but i dunno why who? locking the phone with side lock key during an incoming call wat's the point? but he locked it WHEN the phone call is incoming...but if u lock it and a call comes in, it WILL UNLOCK =)

QUOTE(zackloy @ Jan 14 2009, 12:55 AM) Besides Nokia Maps, anyone aware of any other GPS software that is compatible with the 5800 touch UI? Just curious as I have not been able to find any myself. you can try google maps for mobile...i tried it...it works...unfortunately, there is no way to get offline maps...which means, to use the GPS, u have to keep on dl-ing pieces of the map as u go...which is the same reason why i uninstalled it =)
