Recently I found out that I'm unable to add ringtones those I have converted from .mp3 / .m4a to .m4r. The error message showed that "unable to add the (named files) because iphone unable to read. Before this, it works fine. Anyone facing the same problem? Anyone faced the same problem and managed to find a solution? Mind to share??.... Headache.... headache.....

QUOTE(ufaiq @ Jan 9 2009, 01:41 AM) No problem here. Seriously, had no problem making my own ringer with my iTunes for the phone. Tell me step by step what you did and may point out what you did wrong, hope to hear from you, cheers I will duplicate the mp3 files first then rename the extension file to .m4r. After that either using "Add to library" or just drag the file into itunes. I have tried both methods but to no avail. They just don't show in ringtone category. When I click "Add to library", the itunes just simply don't add the file without prompting any message. When I tried manually add the .m4r file to my iphone in itunes, it just prompt the message the 'can't add the file because iphone can't read it'. Well, my ringtone files all are below 40 seconds and I don't think it should be problem. Itunes and Iphone are up to date. Would appreciate if you could point out what am I missing here. Thank you in advance. p/s: I did not jailbreak my iphone.

Easy, first what you need to do is to convert the .mp3 file into .m4a (don't rename the file). Go to iTunes preference/general/import settings in there choose AAC encoder. Next choose a track then hit Apple(mac)/Ctrl(pc) + "i" to get the track info. In there move along to option and adjust to the bit that you like in the track (usually about 30 sec).
Finally hit OK, go back to the track, right click and choose "Create ACC version". After finishing, drag the file on to your desktop (literally) from you iTunes. Rename the extension from .m4a to .m4r and add it back to your iTunes. Voila! you have your ringtone buddy, have fun making ringtones.
Let me know how it goes ok (via PM), ciao
PS: Don't forget to enable the ringnote section in iTunes preference

TS,
Also to note that your m4r ringtone cannot be the whole mp3 file, it does not work. Only for 30 or 40 seconds.
