Chiangmai is a lovely place.

The town itself has lots of attractions + good food.

If u have time, can even venture out to Mon Jam n the big loop going through the hills.

It all depends on ur planning. have fun smile.gif

Not more than 150 baht. Normally 100-150 within this range.

I personally prefer Airport Taxi. Price are fix at 160 baht. But the car was Toyota Camry Hybrid biggrin.gif

I would suggest you to prepare more cash, while most establishments accept credit card, they will charge you an extra 3%~7%.
Cash is still very much preferred here.
Even the car rental company I went to only deals with cash, and I was asked to pay deposit in cash, luckily I had extra MYR gave them the equivalent value as deposit.
Only the 'atas' places that already charge you a premium price will let you pay in cc without extra charges.

Surprisingly, I noticed the exchange rate of those money changer stall in Chiang Mai around old town area is not that bad. I even came across one that offered better rate than what I have gotten in Malaysia, but I wouldn't rely on that.

Thanks for your advise bro.
Anyway, I've gone to CM and came back already biggrin.gif .
I ended up changing more THB and as you said, most of the places are still heavily using cash and for those places that allows cards, they do charge extra.

yea, the last 2 times i went there i rented from ChiangMaiWheels.com
first time i called to confirm 1 day earlier,
2nd time i just walked-in.

friendly staffs, price is transparent, insurance included, no hidden charges, but cash only.
also make sure you have extra cash for deposit, 5k baht. but last time they let me off with RM500 cash haha.

they seem to be very lenient & easy going, on their websites they even say they accept 'any driving license'. (both times i used international driving license though)
and, they only seem to be just checking the gas level when returning car, not like go through every single spot for scratches.

oh well, at least for me nothing bad had happened.

as for the driving/traffic there, i think similar to malaysia? just a lot more motorbikes.

How rush? It depends what attractions/places you don't want to miss, and how to fit them all in into the time available. If no time, then skip some places.

Secondly, check the distances and time getting there. Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai is about 190km. Give a travel time of 1 minutes each km.

From Chiang Rai, a possible loop to the golden triangle can done. See below map. Definitely must get to Mae Sai, the most northern point of Thailand, with a border checkpoint to Myanmar. The golden triangle place is where the 3 countries, Myanmar, Laos and Thailand, meet.

I think this loop can easily take a whole day, starting early like 7am, with late morning walking around and lunch in Mae Sai. And getting back to the hotel by 5pm.
