Hello... would like to know more on HOlga cameras.... for snaps on people, places n food... any intro for a beginner???? ThanksHi there. For beginner, we would recommend the Holga 135BC as it uses the normal 35mm film that you can get easily at any camera shop or 7-11. But the thing is, the 135BC does not come with a flash. So taking pictures indoors i.e. food is not possible unless u have a steady hand and use the Bulb mode on the camera.
The Holga 120 is the original Holga and more versatile. It comes with flash (colors flash on CFN model) and can also use the 35mm film. It is originally made to be used with a bigger film that is the 120mm format. The film is a bit hard to get but we can direct you to shops that sell them.If i were to choose between HOLGA 135BC, HOLGA 120CFN & White HOLGA 120GCFN - which would u suggest for me???? I wan to take indoors n as well as outdoors.... lol. its like this. Holga 120 use 120mm film. it is bigger. so it cannot fit into Holga135BC.
On the other hand, Holga 135BC uses the normal 35mm film. it is smaller. so it can fit into Holga 120.
If you use the 35mm film in Holga 120, you can get the sprocket holes effects like the sample photos. You can also get longer photos like panorama. but using 35mm film in the Holga 120 is a bit tricky, but i can teach you how.
Holga 120 is almost the same as the Lomography Diana F+. both use the 120mm film. Both has the same effects.
If you want to take indoors, Holga 120cfn and gcfn has built in flash.
135bc does not have flash, but it has hotshoe that you can fit any manual flash on it.
Basically, to use indoor, must have flash unless you know how to use the Bulb (B) shutter mode
so i should get the 135BC rather than the 120CFN due to the stock of the film?????
the 120mm film.... very difficult to get????? more expensive also???
wat films should i buy as a beginner????u have a film thread as well???It actually boils down to what kind of effects are you looking for. and if you plan to get into this lomo thing seriously. it is because you might not be satisfied with the 135BC results. its like the normal camera, the only effects it can gives is the "black corners" or vignette.
You will have more fun with the 120 version. still can use normal 35mm film. just that you have to manually roll the film back into its canister in the dark!
But it will give you that sprocket holes effect, heavy vignette and panorama.
You can view photos that i took with a 120GCFN here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/velviadreams/...57613006930659/
120mm film is actually cheaper than 35mm film. why? because you get max 16 frames per roll. 35mm you can get 36 frames per roll.
For a beginner you can get the normal fujifilm superia or kodak gold film. ISO400 or higher is recommended.
We are trying to source out cheap expired films to service our Holga customers. so we might sell it here in LYN too. And another tip, if you can your hand on expired films, it would be better. Vintage effects, color shifts and they are damn cheap too Hello... my fren told me to get the HOLGA 120GCFN - Color Flash.. how leh?????
Wats the difference between 120 and 135BC????
She said if my main reason of getting 135BC is bcos it can use 35mm film.. i can also get the 120 then buy the adapter.... she also said 120 comes with flash... better effect on pics
How???? any advise????? Yupp, your friend is correct. for better enjoyment and multiple effects, the 120 is the best.
The main difference between 120GCFN and 135BC is that 120 is meant to be used with 120mm films. but it can also use 35mm film with the adapter. you can get that sprocket holes effect. Look at our sample photos.
On top of that, the 120GCFN comes with built in color flash. Flash colors available is white, blue, red and yellow.
I've showed you before, but here it is again, my photos using the 120GCFN
http://www.flickr.com/photos/velviadreams/...57613006930659/
The GCFN unfortunately are limited stocks.Compare between the below... wat are the differences of each??????and the purpose and the outcome of the pics???
The Holga120GCFN, Holga120FN, Holga 120CFN are basically the same. So they will produce the same effects. The difference are as such;
"G" in the GCFN stands for Glass lens. Supposedly the photos will be sharper and clearer
"C" in the CFN stands for Color flash. You can switch between 4 colors for the flash.
"F" stands for Flash. So the Holga 120FN has flash but not color ones.
"N" stands for New or Normal. The original Holga is 120"S". The N version is the upgraded one.
So 120GCFN has it all.
Color 135BC is the same as the normal 135BC. Just it has a color body, instock in either red, red/white, or white.
You can view the sample photos by different Holgas in the 3rd posting.
For beginner, we would recommend any of the Holga 135BC. Films are easy to get, either in reputable camerashops or 7-11.Hello im a newbie for Holga . Personally owning a Holga 120GCFN and i found it hard to find a 120mm film and somemore its quite hard to find developer for this kind of film . Lots of recommendation asking to use 35mm film for holga , and i wonder if i use the 35mm film adapter , the frame of the 35mm film still can see or its hidden ? I mean the 35mm film frame...the hole hole...hope to hear from you soon.
There are 3 types of adapters. the basic 35mm, 35mm panorama adapter and the Superheadz 35mm adapter.
Both the 35mm panorama and superheadz can give you the sprocket holes result. difference is, with the superheadz, you dont have to guess the amount of clicks to advance your film and it has film rewind mechanism.
We have the panorama and Superheadz now in stock. If i don't want to holes result ? I want something like the original 120mm film result ? can this adapter gives the result ? I found it hard to develop here so i need something to solve problems can i have more information ? thanks a lot ^ ^lol. it all depends on the development and scanning process. If you want the sprocket effects, just tell the shop to scan the sprocket holes. If you do not want the sprocket holes, the shop will normally scan it the normal way. No holes.oh ya , if i use the basic 35mm adapter i have to guess the number of clicks while the Superheadz don't need to ? but then how am i going to guess the clicks ? Well , actually 35mm basic and superheadz different is ? sorry because i'm asking so many
Yes. if you see ur holga120, there is no frame counter right? so to advance to the next frame, you have to count the clicks. when you turn the film advance knob, it will make a clicking sound right? so to advance, normally for the first 5 frames is 35 clicks, next 5 is 30 and so on. don't worry, a guidance sticker is included with the basic 35mm adapter to avoid counting clicks 1 by 1.
As for the superheadz, it has frame counter, and frame advance indicator that shows you where is the next frame. another good feature is the film rewinder. No need to open the film in the dark to manually wind it back. the superheadz is selling for RM170. Yupp, pretty expensive but it eliminate the basic adapter problems.and would there be any difference if the multicolour flash been used rather than the HOLGA FILTER SETS or vice versa.
Would the picture be the same if we just use either one of them?hi ,
the difference between using color flash and color filter is that with color flash, you can only use it indoors, or under low light conditions. it will "color" the nearest object to the cameras, let say your friend's face. but it lets the background color to be the same.
so let say you are taking a photo of your friend indoors in a yellow room, and you choose the blue color flash, the resulting photo will have your friend face in bluish tint, but with a yellow back ground.
color filters on the other hand will color everything. but the set also include splitters that can act like a prism. images can get the 3, 5 and vertical splitting images effects. plus it has the soft color surround effect filter where only the corners of the photos will be colored, leaving the middle or the focus in the actual color.
Is it necessary to get the colors filters fitted on holga120 with built in flash ?Hi,
Flash only works best in dark areas, indoors or at night.
Filters can be used anytime.
Apart from the color filters, in the filter set, there are split image filters and also soft corner color filters.
The split image filters will split images you take into 3 or five images. It is like a prism.
The soft corner color filters let you add colors to around the center object that you take photos of.
The centre of the photo will be in natural color while the vignette will be either in red, yellow, green or blue
Hard to describe without seeing the actual items
This is what you get in the set.

Here are sample photos taken using the filters.

This is using blue flash with the split image filter. Photo courtesy of Lomography USA.

This is taken using the soft corner blue color filter. Notice the center part is natural color while
the surrounding is soft blue.

Hope that explain a bit.
Hi, I'm interested to buy a Holga camera for my bf as a X'mas present.
I do lots of research and still I'm clueless on which model is suitable for him.
1. I know that there is a different in lens material, glass & plastic. which one is better? Is the plastic lens is more towards classic Holga?
2.How about the flash? I read some forum said that the internal flash easily to get spoil and less powerful, they prefer an external flash. Is this true? If it's without Flash means that I have to buy colour flash too?
3. I like the camera like Lubitel. Could I possible to order from you guys? how much is the price?
4. I read the your post states that the 120mm is hard to get in normal shop. Are they available in Penang? What and where is the shop selling this kind of film?
5. Lastly, about the developing & printing cost for the film. Are they costly? Are we possible to develop the film by ourselves?
Please let me know available the cameras available now as I want to get it ready before Xmas.
I would really appreciate you spare your time to reply me.
Thanks,
PaureneWe will try to answer your questions as best as we can.
1) The original Holga was Holga 120S. It was made mostly of plastic including the lens, part from some metal springs. So the signature effects of dreamy, heavy vignette and soft focus it has come to be identified with is the result of the plastic lens. The most basic Holga 120 now in the market is the Holga 120N.
2) Yes. Bear in mind that the Holga is essentially a toycam. Don't expect it to last as long as the Nikons, Canons or the other real cameras. After significant amount of use, they will eventually break down. Personally, I have been using mine for over a year and it still fires (finger crossed). Yes, the built in flash are not as powerful as other up market flashes, especially when use with the color filters. Heck, it only runs on 2 AA batteries tongue.gif It will only effective for close up shots. The Holga that doesn't come with the built in flash shud have the hotshoe where you can attach an external flash. They shoudl be cheaper too.
3) We can assist you in ordering the Lubitel. Price starts from RM1220 for the start up kit.
4) The 120mm film is a bit hard to get. But if you explore a bit, you should be able to find it. We have no experience in Penang but was told by some fellow kakis that there are 2 shops in Penang where you can buy and develop the film. FYI, the Holga 120 also runs on normal 35mm film with more effects such as the sprocket holes. Anyways, we sell 120mm film too.
5) Again, look around to get the best deal. In our place, developing cost for normal negatives ranges from RM5 to RM7. We don't normally print in right away. Instead, we asked the shop to scan and burn in into a cd, or cheaper, save the scanned files into our thumbdrives. Cost ranges from RM5 to RM10. We can review the photos later on our sweet time and decide which photos we want to print. I normally print mine in Tesco's printing kiosk tongue.gif
You can develop the black & white films yourself. The chemicals and tools are quite easy to get. You don't even need a darkroom nowadays.
We will be expecting our new stock coming in next week, just in time for our planned Year End / Christmast Mega Sale! tongue.gif
Hope that helps.
Cheers!
