i have a feeling that it's the sensor near the front camera that is working...when you block the sensor with your hand during calls, the LCD screen will off.
I think it's the same sensor working to silence the calls. Meaning that instead of turning the phone face down, you can close the sensor with your hand.

It will definitely be blurred and result in even lesser detail. Reason is because it is digital zoom. Meaning to say, it will have to crop the photos and then upscale it back to native resolution. How this is done? Lets consider a large picture of a paddy field where there is a tiny farmer in the field. If you want to zoom to the farmer. What is done is the camera will crop the rest of the paddy field and just 'focus' onto the farmer. Now because the farmer is small, how can fill a 3.2MP camera output? Upscale lor. But how to upscale? We stretch it to fill up the entire frame. But the farmer will look blur because there no more additional information to create.

That is digital zoom. Unfortunately the Nokia 5800 don't have optical zoom like the N93. I will not recommend using the digital zoom at all. The sensor is small enough, noise is so bad. If you zoom somemore, quality degradation is even worse. Better leave it at zero.

Err, actually the 2.8/3.7 thingy is the aperture size. Meaning, the size of the 'hole' that allow light to get in. 2.8 is the biggest aperture size, while 3.7 is the smallest. It's definitely not focal, because this phone has no optical zoom.

you have to turn off autolock period.
you can find that under setting.
the screen will just be off but not lock if you know what i mean.

I don't know what's the problem then.
I set autolock off. The screen will go off after 45 seconds without touch.
And if i touch it again, the screen will bright up.

same like me, i dun use keylock
just a soft tap will lit up the whole screen (i see that as a plus point)
