QUOTE(niakulah @ Feb 26 2015, 07:10 AM) I'm no expert as I still use my graduation suit when the need arises(once a year? maybe every 2 years?). Just curious, how do you contact Mr. Jeremy Tok regarding bespoke suits? But if I was in the market for a bespoke suit, Jeremy Tok(aka kotmj) would be my first choice. Thanks! |

I have a Navy Blue suit Page Tailor at Sungai Wang Plaza. MYR 1800 for 1 suit and 2 pants.
The quality is good but because I do not have time for second fitting, the suit is made with only my initial body measurement. The results is still far superior compare to off-the-rack suit with minor shoulder divots. I am now hunting for my second tailor made suit. Will probably spend 1 to 2 weeks in Bangkok to get it right this time. Planning to visit Rajawongse. |

QUOTE(jutamind @ Mar 1 2015, 08:41 PM) I used their fabric. For that price, is not the best fabric. If I am not mistaken, it is a Super 100 Wool.I wear my suit regularly so Super 100 is fine with me as it is more durable. I do have another Hugo Boss Suit Super 160 wool. Very delicate. Have you found any good tailor in Malaysia? I am will be back during Easter break so I might want to get another tailor made suit. |

Seems like most suits are made in KL, is there any tailor to recommend in Penang? Since the suits are to be worn everyday, I was hoping for something light and simple.
This is my first suit, by the way, and I have absolutely no idea what to tell to the tailor, and what to expect from one. |

QUOTE(redbull30 @ Feb 19 2015, 12:22 AM) TLDR Heads up : Wow, just read this, very interesting. Mesmerizing, even. Thanks for sharing. So I went to Lords to get a suit done. Have heard of them and being reputable, I thought it would be a good choice. Went in, and spoke to one of their staff. Explained what I needed in detail, showed photos etc and he said okay to everything and said these are normal requirements and took down all my inputs. He then proceeded to take my measurement but it looked like he was being quite liberal eg my normal waist is 29/30 and he took down as 32. Likewise for collar, chest etc. I asked him to redo and told him it was too big but he insisted this is how they measure and it will turn out well. I told myself, they are the experts and just went along. A week later, I went for fitting and the suit was just too big and not in the style that I wanted. Mr Loh (the owner) did my fitting and he agreed that it was abit too big and offered to make it slimmer. He also retook my measurement and acknowledged that the earlier measurement was inaccurate. As for the style, it looked abit "uncle" and I asked if he can alter to what I wanted and showed him some photos. I went back and messaged the initial guy that I met when I placed my order. I told him I was not happy and told him that I wanted the suit to be as what I requested. Within a few minutes, I got a call from Lords and it was a female staff. She did not introduce herself or where she was calling from and just said "you're not happy with your suit and you sent a message". She said if want to fix I need to come for fitting again after a week. I said fine but will that delay the final delivery date as I needed it for a function and she said of course there will be a delay. I said that's not very fair and she said "you're not happy and want us to fix means then there will be a delay" At this point I was starting to get unhappy and told her this is not fair. She just didn't say anything and passed the phone to someone else whom I presume was Kenny (Mr Loh's son). He did not sound very pleased as well but he offered to fix it and asked me to come for fitting in a few days and that the final delivery will be delayed by two days which to me was fine. I went in again for the fitting and the suit was still abit big and Mr Loh said will alter again. This time, I felt the colour of the suit and the pants did not match but Mr Loh said it was just the lighting and that the colour was fine. Two days later, when I went to take my suit it was still the same. I tried it on and just gave up. I changed and just told the staff that it's fine and I will just take it as it is. As I was leaving the dressing room, Kenny appeared and he asked me if it was okay. I said nevermind, I will just take it. He asked me a few times and said he can help to alter if I'm not pleased. I said my function is in two days and it's not point because don't think he can fix it within two days. He told me he can and asked me to try it on and show him. When I tried on, I told him the suit was too big, the pants was too baggy at the bottom but too tight at the waist, sleeve too long and the colours did not match. He agreed on all these points and apologised. He said he will fix it all within two days. At the end he said, he can't let me walk out with a Lord's suit like this which showed he cares for the brand. Finally, after two days it all got fixed and I got my suit. The sizing was sorted and fits well, but the style was still not what I had wanted. Total damage - RM3200. Personally, don't think I will go back to Lord's. Not just the final product but the service provided was quite disappointing as well. Maybe because I am a first timer there or don't have a rich look In the store, no one greets or smiles. When they call, it's always without introduction as well and just straight to the point. I had to ask who is this each time. Oh well, will research more next time I get a suit done. I didn't know there are customers who would just "give up". I wish more would. (joking) The way I see it, there are only two problems here. a) Low calibre staff resulting in poor customer rapport and communications. It's tough finding smart guys to work in a retail operation. Almost by definition they are not smart. Not smart people are infuriating to talk to. It's like there is thick fog in their brain; they do not seem to understand even simple things. Like most here on lowyat. By contrast, the customer base of most high grade tailors are pretty smart guys. b) The customer wants an extremely anorexic fit. Also known as condom fit. Tailors deal with a wide spectrum of customers, from middle aged uncles who want only comfort to young guys who want K-pop fit. You were fitted by the founder of Lord's, who has spent his entire life doing just this. You told him the baste was too baggy. He concurred -- good tailors always concur, it's the customer's suit after all, and there is no reason to piss him off by disagreeing with him -- then proceeded to slim down the suit. But you find the end result mind-blowingly baggy. This tells me your expectation of a proper fit is on the super anorexic side of things. So anorexic, that the tailor didn't expect anybody to want it that slim. The suit is so skinny, that all the classic canons of fit has been violated; essentially, it is anti-fit. It happens to me all the time, too. I sometimes underestimate just how tight the customer wants things. Because it is a two sigma event. This post has been edited by kotmj: Mar 4 2015, 01:35 PM |

When one refers to the pages of GQ, Esquire and such as an example of the way a suit should fits, he'll end up wanting a suit made solely to be worn while standing and holding his breath. Had mine made after countless hours reading and taking pointers from the sifus in The Kerbau, and am extremely pleased with the 1st suit I've made.
