Hello people, I'm wondering whether to choose biomed or pharmacy. All the while I've wanted biomed, but it seems that it's hard, though not impossible, to find a job, not to mention with good salary. Not that I dont like pharmacy, I pretty much like it, and that's the problem, I dont know which to choose. Is it really hard to find a job in biomed field, especially in malaysia or australia?

Since all you wanted is biomedic, why don't just go for it?

want to get a good job and a good salary? its all depends on you.
Who said biomedic didn't get good job with good salary? this is a wrong concept about biomedic.

and yes, Malaysia's biomedic is still under-develop and people do not realize or recognize biomedic work but its a different story at other countries as i heard Singapore's lab is emphasize on taking biomedical graduate to work in their lab, its like "biomedic graduate do biomedic-related job, biotech graduate do biotech-related job, biomedic graduate do not do biochemist job" (correct me if i'm wrong).
In Malaysia, as long as they are capable in doing blood test or other biomedic-related job/work they are hired, it doesn't matter what kind of degree or course they took before.
However, i'm sure that Biomedic will be the trend in Malaysia in the future since the 1st Malaysian Symposium On Biomedical Sciences (MySympBioS) is happening now, its just a matter of time for biomedic to get the spotlight.

as i said, about the job prospect, its depends on you.
As long as you are the best in the field, there is no such thing as poor job prospect or get a pitiful salary smile.gif
i'm sure you will be the best as long what you doing is all you wanted.
good luck smile.gif

Anyone know whether there's any IPTA "famous" for this course ?
What job would I expect being a Biomed graduate ?
Maybe their starting pay , or what's the normal routine of work ?

As far as i know, UM, USM, UKM & UPM are having this course, i'm not sure how to tell the "famous" part of it.
It's depend on you to decide which IPTA has the best of all, i mean based on the offered coursework, subject, etc.

Normally, starting pay for biomedics is the same as other fresh graduates, sometimes also based on what kind of job, company and other factors too. There is no rules saying biomedics' salary is this, chemist's salary is that and so on.
If you want to say salary is your market value, then your market value is your degree cert biggrin.gif

hi there,
im interested in biomed..can i get more informations on the working propects?hav to study about anatomy in tis course?

Biomedic has a wide range of job prospect, you can work as a science officer in hospital, research officer at research centre, underwriter, further study & do research etc etc (this is what i found so far). However, degree is just a stepstone and stepstone don't decide your destiny. It is you to decide your destiny smile.gif

I'm not sure bout other IPTA but i know UKM and UPM biomedic have anatomy course.

ahhh, accidentally bump into this thread and read thoroughly thru everything ~ !
great information except the mid part where imu students chatting, etc  sweat.gif (my cousin is doing medical biotech btw in imu 2nd year)

I am doing biomed as well in uk, going into final year in sep
I think the conclusion is pretty much staring into ur face

graduate prospects in msia sucks (maybe another 5-7years)
biomed > can venture into medicine (min additional 4 years)
try to further ur studies (msc, phd) or work overseas
lecturing in msia is ok (lots of unis are offering bio related courses), as someone mention, starting pay is reasonable
just need to work ur way up from a general lecturer>senior lecturer etc
I am sure profs need to take post doctorate, but phd is very very good enough

Apart from that, biomed is def growing and is not useless as some ppl here are saying (lab tech, etc)
There are lots of disclipines u can major in and the routes u take can be endless
heck u can even be a genetic counsellor...see my point?

Easy comparison between biotech and biomed
Biotech > Plants, Agricultural (Msia ichiban), Equipment, Technology, Technology !!
Biomed > Human body, Diseases ! Diseases ! (medicine basics mostly)

Well said! LOL
