In my opinion,it's Cristiano Ronaldo (when he gets it right).

Alot of the times,he hits the ball into the wall and sometimes he clears the wall but misses the target or hit the target but is saved by the keeper.

But when he does get it right, boy he gets it right! The way he strikes the ball is totally unique and hard to execute, which is why we don't see other players trying the technique on a regular basis. He has the ability to hit the valve of the ball and use physics to make his balls move all over the place.

So yea,he might not be the most consistent, but he's definitely one of the best,if not the best smile.gif

the entire list got my vote if u ask me,but if u ask me ill pick 3 players from the list to be the best of each style
ill rate them base on their technique:-

Ronaldo - power, dipping ball, accuracy (gets through the wall, its for sure a trouble for the keeper)
Carlos - one hit wonder + wicked outswing
RvP - classic style, accuracy(curl+placing),with extra power (IMO, his balls travel alot more faster then the others, making it quite unstoppable) 1 of the best left footer otherwise the best

others are brilliant as well, well most of them in the list probably 80% or more has the typical classic placing freekicks
the above are my 3 best tongue.gif

anyway most of this freekick master is with milan milan....Beck, R80, Pirlo....not to forget Seedorf and Sheva oso not bad...

I cannot agree with some of you guys here. Ok i have nothing against CRonaldo but if you guys think his hit rate is rather on the low side compared to other free kick takers, why rate him as one of the best. He's scored some good ones, no doubt, but the ones he's ballooned is worth mentioning as well.

The choices in the polls are really good ones if you ask me. To me, one of the best free kick takers has to be Juninho. He's scored from literally anywhere strikeable. He's scored from near, from far, from left and from right and rightfully, he's up there among the best. Beckham too takes some really good kicks. Its his ability to swerve and hit the target. His Man Utd days are probably one of the best times of his life, with his dead ball ability. But of coz there's also some really good guys like Nakamura, Pirlo who's much reverred in Milan, Zidane who strikes them quite good and even Ronaldinho. But i hardly watch them play, so its hard to comment. As for Roberto Carlos, he hits them real hard thats all. I think his highlight freekick of his career has to be the one he scored against France in a friendly. Even my jaw dropped seeing him curl from the outside of his foot and the ball curled NOT over the defensive wall but by the side of the wall. Barthez was rooted and i wont blame him.

As for Van Persie, i watch him play on the TV all the time coz i'm an Arsenal fella. Much as i like to say he's a good free kick taker, the best in Arsenal squad, i still think he's still not quite there with Beckham and Juninho. He's got the ability to hit them real hard and lots of curl but no accuracy unfortunately. Since Henry left us, there's no real free kick king among us whereby the job of taking them is split between VP, Cesc and even sometimes Toure. I'm surprised nobody mentioned Henry who takes some good kicks as well.

i wanted to mention this name as well
the famous GK that comes up to take freekicks and penalty kicks brows.gif

anyway, its quite unfair to rate players that are retired to players that havent
its like ure taking a Handphone made 10 years ago comparing it with the latest nokia hp today.
zidane, figo, carlos all..shouldnt be in the list
beckham prime time is over(but has achieved his name in freekicks,so as for the other players in the list up there),its also unfair to rate old players with prime time players sweat.gif
del piero all already ah pek(despite an ah pek,he still can kick butts), cant compare with a ronaldo in his early 20's

voted for Juninho. his FK on target rate is phenomenal.

special mention to Mihajlovic. so far the only dude i know of that can score a hattrick all by FK, n he's a defender.

another mention to Assuncao. not a well-known player, but his FKs are good - i mean, damn good.

Best freekick taker or favourite freekick taker? The poll title is Best Freekick Taker but your question is Favourite Freekick taker. Which one? It's 2 different things.

There a lot of footballer who are good in free kick to be named. But my favourite is only David Beckham.

beckham indeed can hit it right alot of times during his heydays (and might still be able to do it).

but my vote goes to my fav taker, juninho. his range of FK that he's able to take is unbelievable. he's able to adjust the position of the FK with the power that is needed to reach the target. and he's smart as well. if the fk is fr afar, he'll look for a bounce right in front of the keeper so that the ball would loop past the diving keeper.

I voted for becks not because that I do so due to blindly supporting United.. First of all.. all the players mentioned are great free kick takers. But why I choose Becks is because of his accurary (he is also the best dead ball passer or crosser in the world.. well.. back then definitely during his prime).. what impresses me is his technique of taking those kicks... He uses his side foot to place the ball to it's position, which is very very hard to do. Johan Cruyff once commented about it and was very impressed. Maybe this has to do with the fact that his left leg is shorter than his right (this was found during his Real Madrid medical checkup), so he is capable of swinging his right leg and placing the side of his feet to the ball in such way..

Didnt know his left is shorter than his right leg. No wonder when he takes those kicks, there's a certain angle that he's standing. I've noticed that many times and here's what i'm talking about.

My vote goes to Beckham. I especially like the excitement he generates whenever he steps up for one. Win a foul just outside the area and the commentators will go, "This is Beckham territory bla bla bla." Kinda like the Mcmanaman Special. Pretty obvious that opposition players quake in their pants when they give away a foul near the box. Cameras will be clicking and fans will be on their feets. Such is the pull of Beckham and his freekicks. I like how it's whipped with the inside of his right peg and how the ball curves above the wall and dips just in time to go under the bar. Top drawer stuff. Juninho comes in a close second imo.

The classic example is during the 1999 UCL finals..

Remember the 2 late goals came from Beckham's corner kicks. Notice how accurate they are.

And also the free kick goal he took during the UCL match vs FC Barcelona at home. I watched a slomo video of the goal he scored and trust me.. it was totally 100% using his side foot.. he didn't dip it using his front surface of his kicking foot (like normally how people tend to do when they kick/cross or take free kicks). Very impressive tecnique.. sadly nowadays, Beckham's technique is not as good as before.

I think one of the most important freekick goal he ever scored was the equalising goal for England against Greece that put them in Euro 2004. Its like the last minute of the game and they won a freekick in the 'Beckham area' and when he struck it, i think he was like the most popular guy in England at that point.

I voted for Sinisa Mihajlovic. The only player in Serie A who scored a hattrick solely from FKs. As for CR7, I wouldn't even put him in the top 5 even as a Man Utd fan.

HAte him or love him, becks imo is the best freekick taker alongside Juninho. I once watch i think discovery. they dissect his freekicks. When he is about to strike it, his left ankle was so flexible that he can actually bend it like he bends the ball...

I'm going for Sinisa Mihailavoc simply because he was simply clinical setpieces, scoring a goal every 5 games for Lazio and Inter. Unlike Roberto Carlos who opts for pure power (which occasionally results in a swerve i.e. against Russia), Mihailovic is more delicate and goes for placement.

mihajlovic's precision placing is awesome. while the likes of beckham perfected the art of crossing....
so, each of 'em has their own strength and weaknesses.

Mihajlovic was one of the best FK takers in his prime. Better than Becks imo. But I still rate Juninho better. It doesn't matter whether its 25 yards or 35 giving him a FK is almost like giving up a pen laugh.gif

youtube is not really a good way to determine whether a player is good or not
example; c.ronaldo's freekick goals compilation is awesome, but in reality he only scored 1 in around 10
same goes to other players

darn right! that's why i only look up to youtube for the videos of ol' school players.
no disrespect here, am a true red devils myself but i felt that c.ronaldo's ability in free kick is nothing to shout about. on par with giggs, perhaps. guess we missed beckham's crossing and dead ball.

Gotta be Becks.
Every pro can curve, but his curve is precise and has great timing.
Its like the ball took a huge spin and suddenly curls away from the keeper

As much as I hate Becks, but I must admit he really is the best free kick taker ever in the world footballing scene.

Still remember Iker disgusted face after Becks scored a free-kick against him. Man Utd VS Real Madrid laugh.gif Good times..

C. Ronaldo is good though, but not as good as Becks.

Fair enough that some people vote for Beckham but I really do think the thread title should be "best free kick taker you've seen". Football gets a whole lot more coverage now especially English football so it's natural to go with someone more current especially if he has played in England.

Just as a note Mihajlovic being a defender had a better goal to game ratio than Beckham did at Real Madrid or LA Galaxy. During the earlier part of their careers, Sinisa's goal average was only slightly less than Beckham's at Man Utd and one must remember he is a defender. I just felt that this was a very poignant point. Also, we are considering free kicks and not goals or crosses from open play. Midfielders will generally score or have more assists from open play as compared to defenders, especially centrebacks which is another reason Mihajlovic stands out.

Voted for Juninho. Watched some of his free kicks videos and I knew straight away the best is him.

Best free kick taker to score would be Juninho. He can score from ANYWHERE.

Best free kick taker to assist? or pass or whatever would be Beckham. That bloke can put the ball anywhere he wants. Not enough power in it though.

as far as i know, Branco is sort of like Roberto carlos, power based kick without much curve. So the chances of hitting the back of the net is not that high i reckon.

hehehe smile.gif

i guess is subjective,,

current player, i think juninho pernambucano is the best...

before him, i think chilavert.

right now, i don't get it, a lot of team, if free kick around the box, they tap it first, then blast it.. (ala risse FK)

which i dont like very much..its not a indirect freekick,,then y must they tap it first,, just bend it into the top corner,,after that we discuss other option.

Well blasting it in the wall does have some merit. We've seen on occasions where goals have been scored via deflections off the wall. A Branco blast full on would definitely send someone to the ICU man smile.gif

Ronny from Sporting Club de Portugal scored the most powerful goal ever in footballing history. His left-footed free-kick was measured at about 210km/h.

For the icing on the cake, his goal was an 89th minute winner.

I would rate a "good" free kick and hence a good free kick taker by 1) accuracy 2) consistency 3) variety.

My vote will go to the great Maradona. I also agree Sinisa's and Becks are good freek kick taker but lacks variety at times and are predictable, though hard to defend against due to their accuracy.

However, I think free kicks are more to just directing it blindly into goal. A creative play would be where the ball is passed to unsuspecting players, or curled towards a "blind" spot or, the more difficult one, the "expected" spot and still beating the keeper due to accuracy and power. Zola is also one FK taker i admire.

For Zola and Maradona, when they go up to take a FK, opposing players cant just adjust the wall and wait to block their shots. They have to be weary of the potential passes, and you will not be sure whether to order the wall to jump or not, as they have scored FKs under the wall or even through the wall before. And Maradona in one instance, from a FK taken on the right side of the pitch nearer to the corner flag than the goal, manage to deceive everyone by scoring when it seemed easier to curl a cross.

Just my 2 cents.

I am also a big fan of Baggio in this respect.

All the free-kicks he scored in his career. Unbelievable.

QUOTE
He is widely regarded as one of the greatest free kick takers of all time.
QUOTE
Juninho has been described as "One of the world's most feared strikers of a static ball"[4]. As of November 5, 2008, Juninho has scored 40 goals from direct free kicks for Olympique Lyonnais, his latest being a 30 yard low strike against Steaua Bucharest which wrongfooted the keeper. [5]. The method he uses for long-range free-kicks is frequently "knuckle balling," where the ball has almost no spinning motion during flight. [6]. A successful knuckle ball will "move" or "wobble" in the air unpredictably, making it difficult for the goal keeper to save.[7]. He first made his name as a free kick taker to europe with a long range free kick against Bayern Munich in the 2003-04 champions league group stage in which the ball dipped viciously at the end of travel that deceived Bayern keeper Oliver Kahn. He has scored from free-kicks beyond 40 yards on three occasions: a 41 meter screamer against AC Ajaccio in 2006[8], a 45 meter goal against F.C.Barcelona in 2007.[9] and a 48 meter goal against OGC Nice in 2008 [10]. Even before Lyon, he displayed his talent in Vasco, scoring several free-kick goals for the club. Juninho has also scored memorable free-kick goals for Brazil, the most famous being a curling shot from 27 meters against Greece in the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup. Brazil would go on to win the match 3-0.Also, Juninho scored 2 memorable free kicks against Nice in the 2007-2008 season as Lyon were losing 2-0. Juninho rapidly pulled back his team by scoring 1 free kick that flew in the top corner and 1 from 43 yards away. Lyon went on too win that game aswell with a converted penalty by Karim Benzema. [11]

i don't know you guys notice or not, every fk specialist has their own technique, their position, the way they move to the ball or the way they kick the ball.

ronaldinho tends to distance him self 3 or 4 feet from the ball and a lot of angle to work with. beckham don't need to put him self far away from the ball what he always do is work some angle out and elevate his golden right foot to the ball and create ridiculous spin and curve and its was brilliant technique to watch. but the most weird technique from the game came from juninho, he didn't gave him self angle from the ball meant that he stood parallel and align towards to ball before he took the fk, and how on earth he manage to get all those accuracy plus humiliated all the keeper that stood behind the wall for me is still unknown, the way he do it is just like he against the law of physic(deadly accuracy)..

by the way my fav fk takers are quite a lot(juninho, beckham, Mihajlovic, lampard....) its not fair to say that one is better than another... notworthy.gif

Oh...Just that not much Italian Fans here I guess + BPL fan base is big in Malaysia.
If you are a Serie A fan here mostly it will go to ADP! He is consistent when comes to scoring with free kicks.

Added on January 14, 2009, 12:06 pmHow about best in Asia? Shunshuke Nakamura?
Anyone heard of Keisuke Honda he is a specialist of Knuckle Ball Freekicks, the same technique mastered by Juninho Pernambucano.

If in Serie A, for sure ADP the best right now. Especially when it is in "Del Piero Zone". Numerous fantastic free kick that save Juve...

As goal scorer also he was not bad. Highest scorer in Serie A last season...

It will be more meaningful if we can quantified the strike percentage rate. Off course taking into account kicks taken within a certain radius from the centre of the goalmouth.

Oh yeah, Ronaldinho is my favourite.

Said it before and will say it again, the best freekick taker I've ever had the privilege to watch was Tomas Hassler. For all you Beckhams, Del Pieros and what nots, no one ever come close to him, he takes them like penos, it's that easy for him.

Top Ten Free Kick Specialists Of All Time

QUOTE

Jan 27 2009
Written by Adam Axon

Cast your mind back to Saturday August 15th 1998. Manchester United were kicking off their season with a home game against Leicester City and one David Beckham was making the headlines for all the wrong reasons. His infamous moment of petulance at the 1998 World Cup saw him transformed from hero to zero in the space of ten seconds. The British press could smell blood!

United had looked sluggish and were staring down the barrel of a 2-1 defeat. Three minutes into extra time and United were awarded a free kick, 25 yards out. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Beckham stepped forth and struck a superb free kick past the hapless Pegguy Arphexad.

With a single free kick Beckham had sent a defiant message to his critics. He wasn’t prepared to let the ghosts of Saint-Etienne hold him back. Beckham would go on to have his greatest ever season in a United shirt, playing a crucial role in securing United’s famous treble.

As Beckham demonstrated, the free kick specialist can with a moment’s inspiration turn a game on its head. Looking back throughout history there has been some truly gifted free kick specialists, who have taken the free kick to the verge of being an art form. But which of these “artists” would rank as the top ten free kick specialists of all time? To answer this question I considered a few different criteria:

    * Frequency - How often the player scores from free kicks
    * Importance - How important was the game the free kick was scored in
    * Legacy - What impact did the player have on the game from his free kicks

With those criteria in mind lets commence the top ten.

10.) Pierre Van Hooijdonk

Perhaps a controversial choice to start off with. Undeniably talented, Van Hooijdonk was a bit of a footballing enigma, never truly reaching the heights his talent perhaps warranted. His free kicks however were truly spectacular, especially during his stay at Dutch giants Feyenoord. His free kicks during the 2001/02 season, particularly his wonder strike against Freiburg in the UEFA cup, propelled Feyenoord to European glory and secured Van Hooijdonk’s place in Feyenoord folk lore.

9.) Roberto Carlos

Roberto Carlos generated bullet like speed with his free kicks. Whilst his consistency has been called into question, I feel he warrants a spot in the top ten due to the legacy he has left on the game. His style of driving the ball at the goal with brute force offered something different to the traditional approach of bending the ball over the wall. Whilst others had used the same approach in the past, Roberto Carlos brought the approach into the mainstream and in part inspired the techniques of Cristiano Ronaldo and Juninho. His goal against France is truly one of the most amazing free kicks ever.

Youtube video: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=-t5MF7NRQh4

8.) Jose Luis Chilavert

Jose Luis Chilavert has the unique distinction of being the only goalkeeper on my list. I remember being truly captivated by Chilavert as a kid. After all it’s not every day you see a goalkeeper come up and take a free kick, let alone score! Whilst Rogerio Ceni the Brazilian keeper scored more free kicks, Chilavert captivated crowds with his bravado and was able to deliver on the highest stage with some important strikes for Paraguay. Something Ceni wasn’t able to do.

7.) Michel Plantini

Perhaps the greatest French player of all time, Michel Plantini was well renowned for his free kicks. During his playing career he scored some crucial free kicks for both Juventus and France. The standout strike would have to be his strike against Holland in the 1984 World Cup qualifier. His perfectly placed free kick resulted in a victory which guaranteed qualification for the French. He also scored from a free kick during the 1984 Euro final against Spain, although he had a helping hand from the Spanish goalkeeper!

6.) Diego Maradona

Diego Maradona, arguably the greatest player of all time. Like pretty much anything Maradona attempted his free kicks were awe inspiring. With an almost delicate feel to them, He would get the ball to gently rise over the wall and always seemed to be able to place it just inside the post, making it almost impossible for the keeper to save. Maradona consistently delivered from the deadball for both club and country.

5.) Alessandro Del Piero

Del Piero one of the most gifted players of our generation, who freakishly seems to be improving with age! His free kick are no exception to this rule, this season alone he has scored six times from dead ball situation! Whilst Michel Plantini has recently claimed his own ability from free kicks was superior to Del Piero’s,  I have to respectfully disagree and give Del Piero the nod due to his consistent ability to find the back of the net.

4.) Zico

I’ll be honest and say that before I started looking into this article, I didn’t know much about Zico’s free kick prowess. However after watching his technique I now understand why Zico is considered by many to be the original free kick specialist. His control and placement is a delight to watch. One thing that really stands out for me is that he strikes the ball from almost a standing start, relying on his aforementioned control rather than power. A true free kick great!

3.) David Beckham

David Beckham is the most famous sportsman in the world. His trademark is his brilliant free kicks which have been immortalised by the phrase “Bend it like Beckham”. What sets Beckham apart is his ability to deliver when his team needs him the most.  From the earlier mentioned free kick against Leicester, to the great free kick for England against Greece to secure qualification for the 2002 World Cup. Beckham consistently steps up to the plate when required and fully deserves his place amongst the greatest free kick specialists of all time.

2.) Sinisa Mihajlovic

Often criticised for racial and spitting probes there is one thing that everyone can agree about with Sinisa Mihaljlovic, he was a truly brilliant free kick specialist! Mihaljlovic ability to score from the dead ball situation was feared throughout Serie A. He scored close to 30 free kicks during his career including a hat trick of free kicks for Lazio against Sampdoria in 1998. A feat which to my knowledge has yet to be replicated by any other professional player.

1.) Juninho Pernambucano

Step forth the free kick master. Juninho currently plies his trade for Lyon and is absolutely deadly from a set piece. He has scored over 40 free kicks for Lyon with an unconfirmed conversion rate of over 50%! His unique style which sees the ball move in an unpredictable fashion should be familar to fans of the English Premier League as Cristiano Ronaldo uses a similar technique. Juninho has scored free kicks from just about anywhere on the pitch. It’s been said that a free kick for Lyon anywhere near the 18 yard box is almost as good as a penalty kick. That is a true testament to the ability of Juninho, the greatest free kick specialist of all time.

I think Thierry Henry deserves a mention here. Because he did everything else amazingly well, his freekicks are often unnoticed and underrated. Any freekick within 25-30 yards he usually gets it on target, and half of those on target usually goes in. He scored quite a long range one against Man U in the Charity Shield also.

I remember Henry used to be the famous one to shoot right before the whistle has blown and keepers crying foul, frustrated and complaining that they needed to organize the wall. But no doubt about being on target there, he has got good technique

I'd like to add another thing about Mihajlovic. He's one of the few players who have scored directly from a corner kick.

The thing about players scoring from corner kick, i think its largely down to bad goalkeeping more than a super corner kick. Besides, there's a large element of luck involve, the flight of the ball, the goalkeeper screwing up and the defenders missing the ball. On the other hand, the corner kick taker should be aiming for the heads of his players, rather than kicking it too near to the goal and attempt to score from the corner kick.

Anyways, Mihajlovic is a great dead ball taker and for him to achieve this feat in a competetive scene, its special but i won't consider this to be a very special skills.

when talk about score goal via free kick, every player can score free kick, but to do it when the score is 0-0, 0-1 down or deep into injury time and the team is trailing 1-2, this the area where not many players can do it ... the confidence and mentality from the player need to be strong ...

I'd go with Steven Gerrard. I choose him not because he's capable of curling the ball really well to the top corner etc, it's because of the different techniques that he uses when taking a free kick. He thinks smart, not just blast the ball wide.

Oh yea, I think James Milner deserves to be in the list as well. He's one hell of a freecick taker. So is Mortan Gaamst Pederson.

actually in terms of free kicks many can shout for their pride. many has talent scoring from free kicks.

But Becks' curls really makes you get off your seat and it is so breath-taking seeing his free kicks and other dead balls.

Something that NO ONE dares to argue is his precision to deliver ball after ball after ball to feed the striker in the penalty box. Whenever Becks gets the ball at the far right corner, you know you are doomed. What's more at MU, with the combo of him and Nistelrooy, forget Torres and Gerrard, they kick much more ass!

As expected this is a subjective topic and it depends on which era you were born. Freekick experts existed before Beckham but were not as exposed given the lack of television coverage at the time. Can't blame anyone really, I mean we can only call it as we see it.

I disagree however that him and Van Nisterooy kick ass more than Gerrard and Torres. It's a different type of relationship. Becks provided good service to Van Nisterooy, while Gerrard and Torres often create for one another. Torres scored a barrel load of goals last season but his contribution this season has been somewhat limtied because of injury. Gerrard has picked up much of the slack and ranks 2nd on the top goalscorer's chart this season. I disagree with one being better than the other.

CR7 IMO. When he gets them right, they're the most beautiful things to watch. His FKs vs Portsmouth and Europe 11 OMG!

But in terms of finding the back of the net consistently from FKs, Juninho. He'll score 8 times out of 10 FKs

I think the three of them are the best FK taker in very different style:

David Beckham: He isn't the bananaman for nothing... Probably the curviest FK of the century...

Juninho: The one who can score from any direction thru free kicks. Not to forget his power of shooting.

Roberto Carlos: The super power shooting of him... His "S" shape curl is unbelievable...

To those who said Ronaldo and when he gets it right, that's nothing compared to Beckham and Juninho.

This one pisses all over Ronaldo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX0y1kumtss

And that's no fluke, look at the way he focuses on the ball, and his foot technique.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI31-IP0f-Y
Beckham knows where he wants to put it.

So in a head to head with Becks and Juninho, I'd say from 25-30metres, I'd be Beckham. Far range freekicks, Juninho.

Oh, this thread miss another outstanding FK taker.

IMO, as a footballer, he is inconsistent in many aspects, but his FK taking is fairly consistent enough. nod.gif nod.gif

Pernambucano is the best free kick taker in the world biggrin.gif

Why? His canny ability to strike the ball from any angle, distance and accuracy.

Beckham only knows how to curve the ball up but not down unlike pernambucano wink.gif

If you said it "best free kick taker" all the time i think it would be roberto carlos...Because he did something that until now there is no player able to do it...

But in the moment i think is juninho and beckham...

My vote goes to Ale Del Piero...But I would like to say that Juninho is good as well.

Beckham is up the voting chart, due to the fact that he is not a footballer and a celebrity. Even girls who dont watch footy knows him. So vote for Beckham if you are Female or She-male? tongue.gif

Sinisa Mihajlovic is the best free kick specialist.. much better than beckham (how many did he score from freekick, not much)

Sinisa Mihajlovic score really crazy goals from 35 40m out. I doubt the younger ppl here can remember he scored a goal Chelsea vs Lazio... from the side of the penalty box from an impossible angle.

Cristiano Ronaldo...
I vote him based on the technique smile.gif

You dont really see a player who can hit the ball so hard, and that it can comes down so quickly...
Which makes it hard to catch it ...

Added on September 7, 2009, 8:13 pmand erm just an add on..
i dont know why Gerrard is there...
The ball is fed by a teammate that lets the ball roll for a few rounds before he kick it...I thought that should be a shot of laces...

depends on how one judges free kick. there is a certain aesthaetic value to them too.

is the discussion confined to the one kickers? ie how bout those who are intelligent to play acute passes etc to deceive the walls etc?

for me JUNINHO .. or becks

no bias here... definitely not RONALDO .. u can look at his free kicks taken and scored for the season.. u can see the numbers.. u can actually count .. whole season, fa cup, champs league.. altogether probably 3 or 4 free kick goals, can u imagine its Man Utd, imagine the number of free kicks he will get.. .. THE BEST ??? nah.. his free kick rates, for me 1 out of 8 he score one.. (i'm saying the best positions, not the lousy positions and against good keepers, not lousy ones)... for me, he is probably ranked no.8 free kick taker on ur list ..

im certain voters of ronaldo is MAN U fans.. hehe

Juninho / Becks .. 1 out of 4 free kicks taken in good position .. dun pray pray
close behind... will be del piero, ronaldinho

Ian Harte did take a fair share of freekicks for Leeds but he never really scored too many. I could do a google search to find out where he is now but where's the fun in that eh? I know he went to Spain to play for one of the weaker sides (Zaragoza? Getafe?). One of em I'm guessing. He's since returned to the Premiership hasn't he? Birmingham/Stoke? Anyone? C'mon, don't google it smile.gif

Oh well, i remember Leeds breaking our hearts in the 02-03 season where Viduka and gang beat us 3-2 to give Man Utd the title.

Ironically, it was under the ex-Arsenal great of O Leary that put Leeds in such a shambolic position now. He went on a buying spree buying every other player at a premium and when Leeds failed to qualify for Europe, it went south and the rest they say is history.

Maradona is a great free kick taker too. Not only did he score highlights goals , he made a lot of assists from set pieces, through trickery and cunning.

Thats separates him from other players like Pele, Eusebio, Beckham,George Best or Weah.

Thats why he is the Greatest, a complete Legendary player.

True, his conversion rate is low but its overly compensated by the number of freekicks he garnered at the top of the box!
Especially when he was at OT where Fergie, his 'daddy', has lots of Official friends in High Places. whistling.gif

oh.i just noticed this thread. am voting for recoba cause he plays for inter and im biased tongue.gif.. but he's not on the list.

recoba is also one of the player who can score from corner kick (still remember it as it's his last season and last goal at inter. his curvey shot is simply amazing.

my vote goes to mihajlovic
