Hi guys,

Just registered here. I'm a SE owner, brilliant red. While I'm happy with many things, certain things also let me down, but these are mostly minor in nature.

Do read up on my review of my car which was delivered end April.

How much can I get for selling the Persona SE GPS? I don't really like it. Maybe topping up for a proper Garmin hmm.gif

I share your sentiment.

True and false.

True- There IS a tint

False - The tint is so light that its useless. Its just about the cheapest most horrible tinit that you get in the market. Not much better that the regular plastic used to bungkus your kid's school textbook with.

if there are tint by proton d, do you guys go tear it off and go for better solution like vcool or aircool?

thanks

Good question ... it is hot but it doesn;t bother me much since I wear pants/jeans. But it might be a bother for your wife/gf if she wears shorts/ short skirts.

In Automative Garage section, there's a thread opened by CMSAUTO. They provide 3M tinting service.

He quoted me rm1800 for 3M CR70 front + 3M CR50 sides and back and FOC for remove ur old tint and medklinn air cleaner. Reasonable or Expensive?

He also said CR 50 for front no warranty for JPJ and CR 40 not compliance with JPJ, and advise my for the combination he quoted me on top. Not sure how true he is, so hope some1 can help verify it here for me.

He also said his car gen 2 uses CR70 for front, no need cut a square for smart tag, when he passes the lane, need to just slow down the car and it's ok.
*
Yes I think its quite reasonable. Another guy quoted me 1.9k though I'm not sure of the exact spec.

I also understand about the JPJ specs but for now I'm not gonna worry too much about it. I apply the tint to my satisfaction as long as its not too dark that it screams for the JPJ to tahan me. Even if its comes the time to sell it, it's the buyers problem, not mine.

The screw that plug the engine oil. Unless it is broken due to wear n tear (usually happens when the mechanic changing the oil), or you want to change to magnetic drain plug, it is not necessary to change it.
*
Yes I agree. I recently sent my car for the 1st 1000 km service and was charged 2.58 (if not mistaken) for the stupid plug, which is basically a hex head bolt which you can buy new for 20 or 30 cents. I have been driving cars since 1993 and have never never ever changed a plug and this car is only 2 weeks old and they have the cheek to say that a brand new plug needs changing (if it was ever changed in the 1st place).

And to top it all, now I found out the oil filter's leaking and making a mess of my porch.

And don't get me started about the Magnetrap (or Magnecrap) thingy which they forced on me for RM68.00. After all, since when aluminum particles from the engine block stick to magnets????? vmad.gif Perfect idiots, are we?

One thing I gotta hand it to them, they really know how to fleece you.

I had a nice talk with the SC manager and insisted that in the future I will only pay for engine oil and filter and nothing more.

No plugs
No additives
No expensive "engine treatment"
No Magnecraps
No nothing!

I will no longer tolerate any other scams from them! vmad.gif

This is the damn plug that costs me RM2.58! Not sure whether it was changed or not but sure as heck I was billed for it!!

Added on May 28, 2009, 1:13 amIt's funny that I have my regular mechanic for the last 10 years and have never been scammed (or even felt slightly cheated) and here I am during my 1st and 2nd visit to the SC I really felt that I have been short changed.

Added on May 28, 2009, 1:46 amErrr... is it just me or did you also notice that there's oil below the sump casing too? Is the "new" drain plug leaking already? or is it just the mechanics too lazy to wipe the bottom and the sump after the oil change? (the car was jacked up 5 ft)

No need to change the drian plug unless its leaking or damaged.

I have driven various cars since 93 and have never changed the drain plug, except for my old Honda C70 Cub and then only because it was confirmed to be worn out.

jz got my car for 2 days, found out that the "seat belt warning lamp" in front at the dash board doesnt flashes at all, no matter i put on my seat belt or not...izit that the lamp is similar to the "abs lamp", ony available for H-line?
m-line does not hv abs, so of cuz the abs lamp wont flash..but the seat belts? blink.gif

another ques, my car engine is reali noisy (when i'm outside of the car, even if a few feet away), r u guys' persona the same too? ohmy.gif

anwy, add me up to the persona owners list too icon_rolleyes.gif lhy88 - Tranquility Black M-Line
*
If your abs lamp lights up its means the abs is not functioning.

My car seat belt sign for my SE also does not function. However it can be wired to function, though I do not know how to go about it. I think an accessory chop should be able to do it.

Engine noisy? It's normal but from inside its quite quiet.

Hi!

I'm now considering M-line (auto) and H-line Persona IAFM. What is the main difference in terms of accesorries? I know H-line has double air bag, ABS,EBD. What other difference? Is it justifiable for the RM3.5k premium? Does both come with Safetint Performance? is it any good?

Thanks...

The safetint's horrible. Read my take on it.

Do yo mind PM me the brand of tint film that you use? Where you install it? I'm from Ipoh but now currently working at Lumut.
*
I'd suppose I can pm you but it's not necessary to go for a certain brand. For sure that if you want a good one be prepared to spend >1000 for the whole car. I'm sure you can even do it in Lumut or Sitiawan.

Mine has 90% heat rejection all sides and the side windows are reinforced with impact resistant film 6 mil think. Overall greenish in colour. Very comfortable in strong sunlight. I invested 1100 for the whole thing. The entire job took 4 1/2 hours to do slowly by the owner partner himself, including the careful peeling off the horrible Safetint. My warranty is for 5 years and extended to if I get a ticket from JPJ or police they will pay for the ticket. Yes I have it in black and white.

Now I am a very satisfied man.

Just got my Persona SE yesterday (tuesday) after such a long wait...
when got my car, mileage was 64km. Then now, after collected and driven to work and back, it's already 173km tongue.gif
just a day an already travelled over 100km. guess my first service of 1k will come very soon haha
so far, noticed at 100km/h, my car's rev is about 2.7k. 80km/h is about 2.2k. car NVH, handling and stability is much much better than my ex good old manual kelisa. can take corners with more confidence. so far, limit myself to 100km/h max first. Shall wait till after first service to drive faster a bit.
pumped primax3 rm70 (38.89l), meter shows full. doubt it's really full. anyhow, after travelling 109km, meter down a full quarter.
still not used to reversing. totally need to rely on reverse sensor.
just set 9 radio stations and enabled the Local and RDS setting coz i realized the reception isn't good as what you all here shared when i was driving to work today. waiting to hear the difference (if any) tomorrow.
*
Congrats, what colour? Check your spotlights, any cracks? Wait for the klunking sound at the front right side to appear. Yes FC for new engine is very high, but that's normal. Wait till the odo hits 3000, then it would settle.

Any squeaking noise from the back.? You can fix it easily with electrical tape.

And last do yourself a great big favour - rip out the horrible safetint and replace with a better one. I've already done that. The shop says that the safetint is worth only less than RM200 whole car, probably done by some Umnoputra company. It is a poor quality film. And I read somewhere that they have to cheek to claim that its worth RM1200!!!! I still keep the ripped out sample with me.

c) Brake tak makan - in progress - KIV, need to wait till 3-4pm if want to solve this, I cannot wait....

d) Knocking sound at front wheel area after turning - in progress - told that is Steering hose issue, no part, ordering the part, next appointment.

e) Eekkk sound at rear seat area - in progress - Done, added the tape on the rear seat hook.

f) Rear Seat Belt Socket missing - found on the spot, my bad...hehe
*
Check antenna, perhaps swap with another antenna and see if the problem persists.

The seat belt light is memang like that. It is not wired but can be wired to light up if the engine is started by the seat belt is not fastened.

Also at the ignition the ring can be made to light up like the one in Wira. I'm not sure how much the accessories shop charge for it though.

Guys. Going for 1000km service tomorrow. What would they change? Do i need to pay anything?
*
Its free in a sense, that is , in labour, but they will try to include (more like force) some unnecessary stuff like "Magnetrap". I call it Magnecrap. This useless gizmo will set you back RM68!!.

http://forum.autoworld.com.my/index.php?showtopic=89017

Don't believe it when they say you can only use the oil sold by them. You can buy and use your own engine oil. My Castrol mineral was only RM40.00. If you use their Petronas Mach 5 oil that will set you back RM69.00. Make sure you use 20W-50

Oil filter is 12.22.
Drain plug gasket 2.52

You follow them, total = 69 + 12.22 + 2.52 + 68 = RM151.74

You follow my advise, total = 40 + 12.22 + 2.52 = RM54.74 Don't forget to add RM1.50 for the teh ais you are going to blanja me! : )

Make them understand that is if they pour or add any other unnecessary stuff like petrol, gear oil additives etc without your express permission, you will not pay for it. SC is famous for these tricks.

Watch out for poor workmanship. My 1st service resulted in a messy leak due to improper installation of the oil filter.

yes, as expected, engine still new so the FC should be high

i was trying to listen for the squeaking sound too coz from what i read here, it's so common. but for now, i haven't heard any yet.

as for tint, i already have in mind to change to 3M. i think i won't be using the voucher for Cool World, coz ppl's comment here aren't that favourable. what do you think?
*
Klunking sound appear only when you make a sharp left turn over bumpy road. Noise from the back might appear in 1 - 2 weeks time. Noise is from folding back seat latch.

Don't believe the FC meter http://forum.autoworld.com.my/index.php?showtopic=89636

3M is good but expensive. You don't have to go for brand names. Other makes are just as good as along as you get the high heat rejection type of minimum 90%

Mine has 91% heat rejection and 6 mil Anti-Mat Rempit security film at the sides cuz my car sometimes driven by wifey. Costs me RM1100 and I am 101% satisfied with it.

Don't fall for the marketing trick by coolworld.

FC update for my new Persona SE.

Total mileage is just around 315km for the car.
Pumped rm70 (38.89l), from empty it went to full.

Distance travelled so far - 250km
Meter showing exactly half tank.
Average speed - 90km/h
Max speed - 100km/h

My own calculation shows
12.86km/liter
7.78 liter / 100km

Since the engine is still so new and I'm achieving this, I'm quite satisfied biggrin.gif

Yes my SC also pour the entire contents into the engine, which I am not happy about. What is the effect if the oil is way above the max mark?

Not only that a couple of days after my 1st service, I noticed that oil is leaking from the oil filter. Apparently they didn't tighten the thing tight enough and it made a mess of my porch.

Now after the 2nd service it seems I have fresh oil marks on the porch again. Sighh..... I am so disappointed with them. Tomorrow I will jack up the car and see if it leaks at the same place.

In my 16 years of driving and owning cars this has never happened before. Oil leak from sump yes but not oil leak from a recently fitted original oil filter.

just get it drained or change new oil filter at outside workshop and the oil level will drop.....if u notice further, sooner o later the engine cap area will turned into black or having burn engine oil marks due to the over filling which causes the oil to come out from the cap.......

Yes....

They give you "free" labour for 1k 5k 10k service but they'll try to:

1. scam you by installaing the worthless "Magnacrap" thingy on your oil filter
http://forum.autoworld.com.my/index.php?showtopic=89017

2. scam you by adding unnecessary expensive engine oil additive, car wash, engine wash etc.

3. give you more problems by overfilling your oil and causing your new oil filter to leak.

Watch out for their dirty tricks.

Send to them 2 times, kena 2 times!!

BP2000 (20/50) + proton oil filter + labour = RM65
Castrol (20/50) + proton oil filter + labour = RM75

Labour they charge RM8 only....inclusive!!! Clean and clear...

For this process, proton sc took 2 hrs plus, while other reputable shops take only 10 mins...

In Ipoh the cost is:

Cas 20/50 = RM40 (Buy outside)
Oil Filter = RM12.22 (Just buy from SC)
Lab charge: RM 8.00
Total = RM60.22 Only if do outside, spend only 10 mins compared to 2 hours in SC

You're right, but think about the 2 hour wait (assuming with appointment) for something that an outside Ah Beng workshop can do in 5 mins.

Besides I'm scared the incompetent technicians will damage the engine, while fiddling with it.

hmm.gif how come can use others brand oil? I went to SC and they only provide Petronas oil, I have ask them if I bring my own oil, but the manager there told me that is not allow to do so sweat.gif and warranty will void doh.gif

That's total bull.

Do ask the SC guy:

Where in the freaking manual or service booklet does it says that Proton cars MUST use Petronas oil and if not the warranty will be void??

Besides remember that its your car not his car!!!! Why should you let him dictate what brand you must buy. You have got to be more assertive.

I use Castrol 20/50 that I brought myself at a spare parts shop near the SC. Cost only RM40. Compare to Petronas Mach 5 same grade it is RM 69!!!!
