On my way Senior Member 674 posts Joined: May 2014	In most cases (i.e. if the shipping cost isn't clearly specified on documentation), courier services value shipment using IATA guideline which leads to most shipments being overtaxed. If you believe you shouldn't be taxed (invoice+shipping cost below MYR500) or have been overcharged, just e-mail them with a copy of the invoice clearly stating the exact total. In some cases, you can check on shipping terms. Not particularly sure about Malaysian Customs, but if seller specifies FOB/FCA then it's your right to only be taxed the invoice total ex-shipping fees. Sure that can help with some of the "tax issues" in here. On my way Senior Member 674 posts Joined: May 2014	Just a suggestion anyways, I've tried with FedEx and been exempted from paying tax on most occasions even though they've already cleared it for me. No experience with DHL though... I've no qualms with paying tax on invoice value, most of the time they just apply a 10%+- rate. In my experience though, disputes arise mostly due to shipping. Courier services would rarely inquire if no freight costs are specified on the invoice or packaging, they'd just refer to IATA and add the freight cost they see fit.
