They are water-resistant (and they are meant to complement the umbrella or a waterproof flat cap which I also have). Besides, I won't get one if it wasn't in the first place. If you talking about some of the cheap trench look-alikes on the market from China/Korea, that's different.

Regardless, it's mean to protect my suits and precious garments if the umbrella doesn't do the job perfectly due to variations in wind and rain. You have to know that rain doesn't attack you straight from above, wind helps them to whack you from the sides as well. Hence, I don't give a damn whether you guys think it's suitable or not since I only wear them when it rains outside and nobody's going to wear it under the bloody hot sun in this tropical country. You chaps like getting wet during the storm or wearing those gauche 'baju hujan beg plastik', go ahead, but I'm staying dry and looking good at the same time.
