Yes, hard reset here means *#7370# --> SEND. (I think it is 7370). Its equivalent to a factory reset to default settings. All programs will be lost. Backup here means using either built-in backup utility or PC Suite backup to backup all your messages, contacts, calendar, to-dos, meetings, and necessary phone settings. Content in micro-SD card is unaffected but applications installed in it will be re-detected by the phone and re-installed automatically. It works like a charm.

I understand some people 'hope' that by going AP, the price would be RM1xxx since AP is usually RM100-300 less expensive. It won't work here. Reason is as the original authorized set's price go lower, it'll eat into margin. The law of diminishing returns applies here. Think about it, the cost of bring imported phones in, the cost of providing 3rd party warranty services, and the cost of the phone itself. It'll compete with other AP phones too if they go too low.

Yes, official launch is 9th January 2009. But some shops have began selling them which is normal. Nokia consign batches of phones to their authorized distributor for distribution. We're talking about immediate sale and availability on the 9th January 2009. So these stocks must reach distributors way before 9 January 2009 in order to meet demand. Supply chain management practice here, nothing new.

If not mistaken, Nokia Concept Store also selling but at RRP RM1899. Maybe thats an official price including the 1000 songs coupon and headset. But I do know other shops are selling lower than this price which is normal too since bulk sale applies here.

Battery life is really good. Mine can last an average of 4 days with bluetooth connected to my headset whenever I am driving. I make short calls everyday and sms-es too. During the night, I would browse on WIFI to my favorite sites to do some new readings. I would say the battery performance is as good as the E71. If you are pairing it with a bluetooth headset, be sure to get one that is Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR compatible. This version has powersave feature. Meaning when no data is sent in between them, bluetooth connection is shutdown to save power. Only when it is triggered, the re-connection will automatically take place. It'll help save a lot of power.

Nope, no using the included case. Its a bit tight and pushing your 5800 in and out is like squeezing it. Don't want to scratch it. But so far the plastic material has been pretty resistant to scratches.

Yes, ala E71 style. But I found the frequency of that blinking or fade-in/out light is a bit slow.

Well I would attribute this to the assembly quality (which is typical for materials like this) and the fact that the XpressMusic icon is brightly lit. Some said, if you see this it'll mean you'll be suffering with low/high volume of the speaker when making calls. I don't see why this is related but probably it is an assembly defect.

Anyway, don't worry about the light leakage. Its typical to see it and I am very sure any phones/products made in plastic will see such imperfections.

Yup, thats a very common problem. Some said the upcoming v11 firmware will fix this problem while others mentioned it has not resolve the issue. Some people said it is a hardware issue in which they sent in to Nokia service centre for speaker replacement. Those service centers replace the speaker because they follow standard procedures. They won't spend time finding the cause, they just do replacements.

Just wait for the firmware for more confirmation. The current solution is NOT press the phone to your ear. Try spacing/easing it a little bit. Apparently it'll help resolve the issue. Probably the (just probably) the proximity sensor interfering with the speaker. Or just use a bluetooth headset for now.

You won't be able to tell. Because we can't tell how many units in a batch or each batch has different quantities due to yield. The serial numbers are all in sequence. Then supply chain management has made it very transparent to consumers.

You could check the production date (if this information is available). You could however wait many months from now, those early batches will be diluted from the market leaving the later batches in circulation. Just get an original phone. Save you from headaches. Any problem, Nokia will cover your repairs.

No, you're not unlucky. If I am not mistaken, everyone will eventually see this problem including myself. I see this case being very widespread in Nokia discussion forums. Just be a little patient, it'll be solved on firmware updates sooner or later.

You should do a backup either via built-in backup utility or PC Suite before performing reset. Everything in side memory will be deleted. Things in the memory card will be preserved.

They just started selling in here, what batch do you think it is? I will not consider batch numbers because they could be from the same revision. We should start considering the idea of a later revision. Only a newer revision will have this problem solved while I'm still confident that at least firmware update could do some good.
