I'm just wondering if my electricity bill is more than normal. Appliances used regularly :-

1 x 1hp aircond - switched 2-3 hrs a day
1 x 1.5hp aircond - switched 5-6 hrs a day
2 x small fridges
1 x large fridge
1 x freezer
2 x tvs
2 x pcs

Average bill - RM500-700/month

I've asked some electricians and they've said that at the most the bill should come up to 200-300+ at the most.

It is a bit unusual. Mostly will guess/expect around 300-400 range.

But probably fridge and freezers are the culprit which a normal fridge might consume 20-30 per month depends on how long the duration of fridge compressors are running.

A HP is 0.75KW, so switch on 1 hour = 0.75KWH.

At current electricity tariff, 1KWH = RM 0.30-0.38

For air-cond, it much depends on temperature setting as well. As if it is running non-stop (temperature set too low) then they cocnsume quite signficant amount of electricity as well. Switching air-cond on doesn't mean compressor will run non-stop, once it reached the temperature (which measured by built-in sensor), it will automatical switch off your compressor

Drycleaning machine, Washing machine, Dryer, 2 sets if IRON, 2 ceiling fans, 1 table fan and 7 neon tube lamps switched on from 8am-9pm too but my electricity bill is roughly around RM350 per month with a business rate at 0.408 SEN PER UNIT.....

Hi TS,

You have so many electricity guzzling device... esp the fridges, freezer and aircons.

Dump the multiple fridges and buy a single unit which should cut your energy consumption.

Set your aircon to cool at a slightly higher temp 28' should be cool enuff sweat.gif

You could call to or visit kedai TNB, have them check your meter or get it replaced.

Do you leave all your appliances and lights on even when no one is at home... or in the room?

Hard to tell since the TS only partially listed the electrical appliances in his house... TS didn't mention the lights, fans, spot lights or if he had a jacuzzi, koi pond or home theatre etc.

Or the complete household usage pattern.

For example houses lit up like a football stadium coz using several 200watt lights which consume alot of electricity cool2.gif or the entire household doesn't switch off the lights, fans or TV even when nobody is at home shocking.gif

Yah, he should list down a complete list of appliance, Watt rating and usage model for us to make a complete analysis :-)

Added on January 2, 2009, 6:57 pmI have 1.0HP and 1.5HP aircond (5hrs/day), thermo-pot (24hrs), Aquarium (24hrs), 2x instant hot shower, medium size fridge, washing machine, 2x TV, 2 PC (1 running 24 hrs), the usual fans and flo lights etc., and my monthly consumption is about rm200. My wife already complaining it is too expensive.

That's what I thought, so expensive compared to other houses. If 200-300+ I would be very happy. I've called TNB to change the meter but still no difference after changing. Already listed down the most important appliances. The rest are very small la..

aaron.. no fancy jacuzzi or koi etc. Just normal room lights (flourescent) & living room lights (philips). Very careful with electricity, when nobody is around we switch off everything except for the room we are in and the landing lights.

Would changing to 3-phase wiring help or getting those stabiliser that is sold outside claiming 30% reduction?

lol mine last time bill around 500 - 600 with
3 PC running 24 hours
4 aircon running 10 hours total horsepower 2.5
1 large fridge
1 heater
for you i think is reasonable as fridge consume power same as aircondition

last time my house use 1-phase power..but power not stable and even burn before..
now change to 3-phase power with extra 2horse power air con ...
btw 3-phase power is easy to *ahem *ahem to lower the consumption compare to 1-phase power...cos 3-phase power is computerized and just need to ahem the software

yeah perhaps something to do with the compressor....it got blocked or something. as a result more energy is used to compress the chemical.

I think is abnormal to hit RM500-700 per month. I would say RM300 is the max. I would suggest that you change to energy saving lamps, new air-con with low energy consumption, etc. You will save in the long run.

yes the fridge is in the kitchen and dining area downstairs. The AC is upstairs in the bedrooms.

Interestingly enough, overclocking this PC costs an extra about 100 a month.

it is a bit expensive, fyi, clothes ironing, cooking water thru electrical kettle, always open n close the fridge door will input more electricity charges

anyway, better engage a technician to check ur wiring and try to find out the root cause...
