I have one. Bought one from Yodobashi Umeda, paired it via Bluetooth to the NWZ-A820 16GB Walkman, so all the tunes coming out from its ear-cupped speakers are from the Walkman. Great conversation piece as well, I have it in the living room and always gets the curious looks and questions from guests.

The Motion Editor is available, but since mine is from Japan, the editor is in English. The preloaded tunes all have advanced motions, but the non-embedded streamed audio from the Walkman, results in very basic Rolly "dance".

i was thinking how small is it? n how often we will utilize "it" biggrin.gif

I think we are paying for the technology where the motion sensor is much sensitive than the iDog~ (dancing dog/fish..etc)

The price sounds about right, plus I think you're getting a 2GB version. My advice is to stick with the black color, white color is easy to get dirty ESPECIALLY the two roller parts as it picks up dirt when rolling on the floor.

As for my utilization of it, it is part of my "shock and awe" strategy whenever a new guest arrives to my house. tongue.gif When they are nice and relaxed on the couch, the first thing that their vision lingered to is the Rolly. When people are presented with things that are alien and cute at the same time, their interest will definitely piqued. The initial thought would be they would think that it is an alarm clock of sort, until I surreptitiously grab the Sony Walkman from charge cradle nearby, and play a song on it, streamed to the Rolly. Then they would say "Oh, it's an audio player!"......until I tap the little blue LED button on top of the Rolly and watch their jaw drop when it starts to dance. laugh.gif

It may be quirky for us nerds and geeks who "gets" the idea of what the Rolly is, but to the average Joes and Janes who have no idea whatsoever about this thing, it is a complete and utter surprise and delight as well. laugh.gif

.......Once I caught my guests offguard, THEN I would "assault" them with more gadgets and lifestyle-related entertainment devices. R2-D2 robot following your every command, next perhaps? wink.gif

It's fun to entertain! laugh.gif

Added on December 30, 2008, 10:49 pmAs for the Sega iDog/iFish crap, I'm not impressed by those. Very very rudimentary "movement" if any, more like a poor man's excuse of a thing, it is blasphemy to compare it to the Rolly.

hmm~ u r right...smile.gif when entertaining guest to your place ...

Hey wait a min..i don’t have mp3 player...does iPhone can stream music to Rolly? I think iPhone Bluetooth is encrypted to Apple devices only.

What about setting the movement for Rolly? is it complicated? How do u set the wings to move accordingly with the music beat?

What about battery life span...so far i have book the Rolly yet...although Sony is giving freebies for early birds biggrin.gif

The iPhone cannot stream to the Rolly, it does not have A2DP Bluetooth profile. Your Mac however, does. If you dont have an MP3 player, you can use it with a Mac instead.

The motions syncing with the music beat require programming using a software called Rolly Motion Editor. Otherwise, the movement is "estimated" by the Rolly, and it is basic only. I hope once the Asian version is launched, I can use the Asian copy of Motion Editor and edit those movements myself.

I have no idea of the battery life, as after the "demo" for my guests, it goes back to the cradle, and charges back automatically. And when I dont want it to "move around", I leave it in the cradle, and use it as a nice ambient background speaker, playing nice easy-listening music like jazz or classical. Dim the lights, and lie down and relax. tongue.gif

How much is the preorder for your Rolly, and when are you expected to get one? I may need another for the kitchen and upstairs lounge area.

Hi stringfellow,

From your post..i observed some good idea or reason for me to get... flex.gif

1) U mean the Rolly will act as a MP3 player with speakers?
2) Will the Rolly automatic "roll" back to the cradle to charge like Sony Aibo?
3) What are the differences between yours Rolly and the one I posted up?

From Sony Spore it stated Asian..means is customize to Asian copy is that so?

Okie, let say i do not want my Rolly to "dance" instead of becoming my standalone speakers *portable* like those Bose/B&W/JBL is this possible? While playing music in stationary mode will the Rolly shows multi ambient light (like the Philips Living Colour Light?)

To answer your questions:-

1. Yes, the Rolly is an MP3 player with speakers, it is just that there aren't any screen to select your songs. To go to the next song in the list, you need to rotate the lower roller anti-clockwise, and to revert to the previous song, you roll it the other way. To increase volume, you roll the upper roller anticlockwise to the desired volume.
2. no lah, Rolly wont be able to roll back into the cradle automatically, you need to place it there.
3. Probably in language selection, and the storage size. Yours should be the 2GB version, mine is just 1GB. Remember, I dont store the songs inside the Rolly, I stream them from my 16GB Sony Walkman.

To make the Rolly "dance", tap the top button while the music is playing. The music will stop, and restart with the "dance" routine preprogrammed form that song. Otherwise, it will just do its basic dance routine. While in its cradle, the ring of light will change to its multicolor configurations. Awesome in the dark! rclxms.gif

My Rolly is part of my living room now already. You can say it is part of my morning wake up routine, take my coffee, and have my breakfast, and listen to my Rolly while reading the morning papers. biggrin.gif
